Department of Justice Sue's the state of Texas for over the abortion law. AUSTIN, TEXAS — The Justice Department on Thursday sued Texas over a new state law that bans most abortions, arguing that it was enacted “in o

    pen defiance of the Constitution.”

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Texas, asks a federal judge to declare that the law is invalid, “to enjoin its enforcement, and to protect the rights that Texas has violated.”

The act is clearly unconstitutional under long-standing Supreme Court precedent,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said at a news conference announcing the suit.

The Justice Department argues the law unlawfully infringes on the constitutional rights of women and violates the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution, which says federal law supersedes state law. Federal officials are also concerned other states could enact similar laws that would “deprive their citizens of their constitutional rights,” he said.

It is settled constitutional law that ‘a State may not prohibit any woman from making the ultimate decision to terminate her pregnancy before viability,’” the lawsuit reads. “But Texas has done just that.”

Biden slams SCOTUS refusal to block Texas abortion law, vows to pursue legal remedies

Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she's bringing legislation to codify Roe to a vote.

President Joe Biden says he is launching a "whole-of-government effort" in response to the Supreme Court allowing the nation's most restrictive abortion law to take effect in Texas, directing his Gender Policy Council and the White House legal team to tap federal agencies to ensure women maintain their constitutional right to an abortion.

The new law in Texas has raised concerns among Democrats and abortion rights advocates that there will be efforts in other states to imitate it. The Supreme Court ruling provides a fresh incentive to act on abortion on a federal level while reigniting the national political divide over abortion and the high court. "While the Chief Justice was clear to stress that the action by the Supreme Court is not a final ruling on the future of Roe, the impact of last night's decision will be immediate and requires an immediate response," Biden said in a statement on Thursday.

@All you need toi know radio- Fact check: Trump administration officials try to rewrite their own Afghanistan history!!

There's been no shortage of fact-based criticism aimed at the Biden administration's handling of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan.

But some of the criticism from former Trump administration officials has departed from the truth.

Denouncing Biden while also misleadingly omitting the actions taken by Trump and his administration. Former Vice President Mike Pence, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, and former Acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller have all slammed Biden in one way or another for the chaos that has unfolded in Afghanistan this month. While some of that criticism has been accurate, much of it has inaccurately tried to rewrite the Trump administration's own history on Afghanistan -- denouncing Biden while also misleadingly omitting the actions taken by Trump and his administration.

"I stand squarely behind my decision," the president said on Monday. "After 20 years, I've learned the hard way that there was never a good time to withdraw U.S. forces."

drawdown in Afghanistan, blaming the U.S.-backed Afghan government and military for allowing the Taliban to take over.

"Afghanistan political leaders gave up and fled the country; the Afghan military collapsed, sometimes without trying to fight," Biden said. "If anything, the developments of the past week reinforce that ending U.S. military involvement in Afghanistan now was the right decision."

Speaking to the American public from the White House, Biden said he stood firmly by his decision and argued that he was faced with a choice to either follow through with the drawdown or escalate the conflict into its third decade and ultimately sacrifice more American lives.

"I stand squarely behind my decision," Biden said. "After 20 years, I've learned the hard way that there was never a good time to withdraw U.S. forces. That's why we're still there

Why do vaccinated still wear masks?

That means fully immunized people with young children, aging parents, or friends and family with weak immune systems will need to renew vigilance, particularly in high-transmission communities. Vaccinated Americans may need to wear masks not just to protect themselves, but everyone in their orbit. no vaccine is 100% effective and, though rare, fully vaccinated people can contract coronavirus. These cases, known as breakthrough infections, can cause COVID-like symptoms — or no symptoms at al

Republicans choose power over truth as hopes for bipartisan January 6 commission

the growing Republican blockade against the creation of a bipartisan commission to investigate the US Capitol insurrection on January 6 has crystallized the party's fixation with the 2022 midterm elections.

Even on a grave matter of national security, the GOP has concluded that the political price for standing with former President Donald Trump is preferable to the electoral cost of breaking with the disgraced former President.

More than four months after Trump stoked the January 6 rebellion with his lies about the 2020 election, the vast majority of GOP lawmakers demonstrated this week that they see no upside for revisiting the dangerous events that unfolded at the Capitol even if it means that Americans will never get a full explanation of how close Trump's supporters came to ove

Secret Service for Trump family cost $140,000 in a month and ends yesterday
Donald Trump’s adult children reportedly cost taxpayers $140,000 in Secret Service security in the month after the clan’s patriarch left the White House in January.Ordinarily, family members of a president lose their security detail when they leave office. According to the watchdog, records reveal that the Trump children maintained a “breakneck speed of travel, and racked up significant hotel and transportation bills for the Secret Service”. Transport costs alone amounted to $52,296.75, and hotel costs totaled at least $88,678.39.

Britney Spears is Publicly Being Held Hostage by Her Abuser and the US Court System

Her latest loss in court will mean that despite global support through the #FreeBritney Campaign, she’s not going to see freedom any time soon. Many of you will remember Britney Spears’ infamous meltdown of 2008, when she walked into a hair salon and, in front of a trove of paparazzi, shaved all of her hair clean off. This public mental and emotional breakdown started an important conversation around how the spotlight damages the mental health of celebrities, and caused a chain reaction in Britney’s life that would change everything. Soon after the Head Shaving incident, it was declared that Britney was not competent enough mentally to make her own decisions, and thus for her safety, conservatorship was given to her father. This meant that any big life decisions, from working to spending to everything in between, would ultimately be decided by her legal guardian/conservator on her behalf — who, in this case, was Spears' father, James Spears.
