    Podcast Summary

    • Embracing SimplicityTry new experiences, like enjoying local baked goods, to enrich your life. Support local businesses and embrace simple pleasures for greater joy.

Exploring life can lead to unexpected pleasures, much like discovering good food, such as homemade sourdough bread. It reminds us that there are local treasures in our communities waiting to be found, and taking the time to enjoy simple things can deepen our experiences. It's important to be open to trying new things and to support local businesses as they offer unique flavors and memories. Besides, sharing food with others can create warm connections and enrich our lives. Whether making bread at home or savoring pastries from a bakery, every bite can bring happiness and remind us to appreciate life's small joys.

    • Community Over SelfCherishing shared experiences with others can boost well-being more than self-obsession. Care about relationships that support growth, while not letting ego control how we feel about ourselves.

Prioritizing community and shared moments can enhance our well-being more than obsessively focusing on ourselves. Enjoying meals with loved ones brings joy and reduces stress, allowing us to appreciate the moment. While it’s natural to care about others' opinions, it’s essential to cultivate healthy relationships that support growth without letting our egos dominate our self-worth. When we recognize our emotional triggers, we can find healthier ways to cope instead of worrying about others' perceptions. Overall, fostering genuine connections leads to a richer, more fulfilling life.

    • Ego AwarenessRecognizing and managing our ego is crucial for personal growth and healthy relationships, promoting humility and self-awareness in interactions with others.

In navigating relationships and personal experiences, it's important to recognize the role of ego. We often find ourselves judging or holding others accountable as if we're in a courtroom. However, self-reflection reveals that these moments can teach us valuable lessons about humility and understanding. Literature, like Keller's work, provides insights on managing ego without unnecessary comparisons to others. It's essential to strike a balance in self-esteem rather than subscribing to extremes of low or high. Embracing our humanity means acknowledging ego's presence but learning to control its influence in how we relate with ourselves and others. By fostering humility, we can approach our experiences with greater wisdom and compassion. Whether we ponder life's changes or the complexities of relationships, understanding our ego can lead to personal growth and healthier interactions, underscoring the need for self-awareness in our everyday lives.

    • Self-UnderstandingBalancing self-improvement involves focusing on the present and understanding one's identity, rather than solely chasing future goals, while valuing community connections for accountability and support.

Focusing on self-improvement is about finding balance. It's not just about setting goals or creating manifestos for the future but understanding oneself in the present. Embracing who you are right now allows for true peace. While vision boards and intentions have their place, authentic growth comes from a deeper understanding of your identity. Engaging in collective experiences, like sports or working with friends, can foster connections that matter more than individual achievements. These relationships help ground us and keep us accountable, highlighting the importance of community in our journeys toward fulfillment. Ultimately, realizing that our worth isn't defined by external measures frees us to pursue our goals without the pressure to prove ourselves, bringing us closer to a genuine sense of peace and satisfaction.

    • Dreams and PresenceBalancing dreams with present moments is essential. Prayer, meditation, and self-belief help navigate life's changes, allowing for growth and understanding. Embrace the journey and relationships involved in your goals for deeper fulfillment.

Finding balance between vision and presence in life is vital. It’s okay to have dreams and desires, but being open to life's changes is essential. Prayer and meditation help to stay grounded and present. Embracing small joys and nurturing self-belief despite past criticisms can nurture a positive mindset. Appreciating both the process of dreaming and the relationships involved in that journey adds depth to our experiences. Each step builds towards understanding one's true path, even if it sometimes involves grieving lost expectations. The journey is as important as the destination, and personal growth can occur from both aspirations and the lessons of staying present.

    • Success and PeaceSuccess often drives an endless cycle of proving oneself, but true fulfillment can be found in moments of peace away from constant achievement.

Success and achievement often come with pressure to continuously perform, as illustrated by Madonna's feelings of inadequacy despite her acclaim. Many, like her and even in different contexts, can feel that they need to repeatedly prove themselves. However, some find peace in recognizing that life's value is not only in achievement but also in knowing when to step away from the pressures of chasing success. It’s important to have self-awareness and understand that personal fulfillment does not always come from climbing towards the top but can also come from appreciating life in quieter moments. By acknowledging our egos, we can begin to pursue a sense of peace rather than constant validation based on external achievements.

    • Embracing ChangeEmbrace life's changes and be inspired by others' successes instead of discouraged. Practicing gratitude for health, friends, and solitude fosters resilience and personal growth.

Experiencing significant life changes can be tough, but instead of feeling discouraged by others' accomplishments, we can choose to be inspired by them. Just like learning to bake sourdough bread, we can embrace challenges and celebrate the successes of others. Reflecting on what we are grateful for, like health, friendships, and moments of solitude, helps us maintain a positive outlook. Taking time for ourselves allows for personal growth and clarity, enabling us to pursue our passions without comparing ourselves to others. Whether it's in baking, work, or sports, acknowledging our capabilities and being thankful will guide us toward resilience and a fulfilling journey.

    • Solitude and GrowthEffort in seeking solitude is essential for growth, and sharing impactful books like 'The Freedom of Self-Forgetfulness' promotes meaningful discussions and accountability among friends.

Finding moments of solitude and prayer takes effort, but it's incredibly important for personal growth and well-being. The book 'The Freedom of Self-Forgetfulness' is a compact and affordable resource that encourages reflection and accountability among readers. Sharing this book with friends or in a group can lead to enriching discussions and support, helping everyone feel less alone in their journeys. It's a gift that can be shared widely, as so many have found it valuable, making it a popular choice for those looking to explore deeper topics in a supportive community. Connecting with others over such themes fosters a sense of camaraderie and encourages continued personal development, contributing to a shared journey toward understanding ourselves better and growing in our respective paths.

PART 2: Do You WANT to Stop Dieting, But You Have No Idea What That Even Looks Like (and the alternative terrifies you!)? Let's Talk About It! (Outweigh)

PART 2: Do You WANT to Stop Dieting, But You Have No Idea What That Even Looks Like (and the alternative terrifies you!)? Let's Talk About It! (Outweigh)

OUTWEIGH: Leanne is back for Part 2 of this series to help you understand how to get off the diet roller coaster for good.

So many women WANT to stop dieting, but they don't know how, or they don't know what that even looks like, because it's all they've ever known.

So this idea of "food freedom" or NOT being on some sort of diet is not only foreign to them, but it's actually pretty scary, because all their brain has known is what it's like to count, measure, restrict, and control.

Or their brain knows what it's like to bounce to the opposite end of the spectrum, and end up in an uncontrollable cycle of mindless eating, emotional eating, stress eating, or binging, and they just end up feeling super out-of-control.

This week Leanne is laying out the 5 step crystal-clear path way to finally STOP dieting without feeling like you're going off the deep end if you're NOT on something.

    HOST: @leanneellington

Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone + Why You Should Never Kiss Your Dog + Gratitude + Mantras & Intentions for 2024 (the Year of Empowerment)

FIRST THING: Amy read something special her sister wrote called That Time We Tore Down the Fence. Loving your neighbors well, getting outside of your comfort zone, and answering dreams, but never forgetting what you have experienced and learned and loved on the way.

SECOND THING: Taft Hansen (a medical laboratory scientist/parasitologist) is a guest for this continued conversation about parasites. He sent Amy an email after hearing her episode with Katie Decker and he wanted to contribute. They talk about why you should never kiss your dog, cooking meat properly, parasites in the brain and more.

3RD THING: Taft's wife Morgan joins in for '4 Things Gratitude' and some good movie, tv and book recommendations come up during it!

4TH THING: Amy's cousin, Amanda Rieger Green is on talking about how 2024 is the year of empowerment. She released a Numerology Guide Book that’s special for this year (an 8 year, BTW) and people are loving it, so Amanda gave us the details & also shared with us some mantras and intentions that are good for us to use this year specifically!

What to Do When You Feel Misunderstood (5th Thing)

What to Do When You Feel Misunderstood (5th Thing)

Amy & Cryo Kat (Therapy Kat is on her honeymoon!!) are back together again talking about a recent sacrifice that was made in the name of their friendship + things you can say when you're feeling misunderstood + their obsession with things like AlphaTenn Bars & ground beef & the 'cocaine queen.'

PART 1: Do You WANT to Stop Dieting, But You Have No Idea What That Even Looks Like (and the alternative terrifies you!)? Let's Talk About It! (Outweigh)

OUTWEIGH: So many women WANT to stop dieting, but they don't know how, or they don't know what that even looks like, because it's all they've ever known.

But again, NOT being ON something scares them, because when they are not ON, they are totally OFF, and as you can imagine, it's one massive vicious cycle and downward spiral.

And because this topic truly is multi-faceted, Leanne broke it up into 2 parts. Part 1 is about the mindset and heartset and brainset shifts that need to happen to make the strategy-side-of-things Leanne will share in Part 2 even possible.

So enjoy this episode, and make sure to come back next week where Leanne is going to break it down into 5 crystal clear steps of what that actually looks like to heal from the diet mentality for good.

Elevate Your Confidence, Style & Power with This Life-Changing Tip

Elevate Your Confidence, Style & Power with This Life-Changing Tip

Amy just discovered color matching & it's blown her mind. Her guest, Hannah Garber (a color analyst) breaks it all down for us. Amy met Hannah after she booked an appointment to find out her "season" (she learned she's a 'cool summer' palette, btw) and when Hannah told Amy her underlying skin tone was one that radiates in NAVY BLUE & NOT BLACK Amy was fascinated! She knew she wanted Hannah on the podcast ASAP. Why are we just now learning about this? In a nutshell, we all have certain colors that give us the power to show up with more confidence and look our best. Everything from the way we color our hair, to our makeup choices, the clothing we wear, nail color, jewelry etc..

Amy & Hannah talk about the colors/seasons (winter, summer, spring & autumn), confidence, capsule wardrobes (imagine if getting dressed was easy!!), the science behind it all, how Hollywood uses color matching for character building (shout out Anne Hathoway in Devil Wears Prada) & so much more (like memories of our moms with their signature lip colors & how switching your mascara color from black to brown is a game-changer or vice versa...it all depends on the "season" that you are!)

DM Hannah on IG. She'd love to hear from you: @houseofcolournashville_hannah

How Gwyneth Paltrow Releases Anger & Do You Rank Your Friends? (5th Thing)

How Gwyneth Paltrow Releases Anger & Do You Rank Your Friends? (5th Thing)

Today’s quote is from Ally Fallon: “You rarely know the whole story already – when things don’t make sense it’s usually because there’s missing data, untapped information. Maybe someone is keeping something from you, maybe you’re keeping something from yourself. Maybe certain things are none of your business - and maybe you need to wait a little longer to collect more puzzle pieces.”

What are the facts in the story you’ve built in your head? Practice patience – the other pieces of the puzzle are coming.

Amy & Kat “popcorn” through different topics:

    • How Kat’s feeling leading up to her wedding!
    • What’s the right way to order your bridesmaids/groomsmen?
    • Survey: 1/3 of Americans feel lonely at least once per week
    • Filling your cup with connection & community
    • Horrible hygiene habits that are way too common
    • Gwyneth Paltrow uses a baseball bat to release anger
    • Emotional intelligence quiz
    • Gaslighting and the Keanu Reeves mindset (2+2=5)

Will Amy make 2024 the year of no shoes in her house? Only time will tell :)

Wishing Kat a happy wedding week!!! Check out her episode about The Loneliness Epidemic on You Need Therapy.
