    About this Episode

Human beings are sexual beings. When it comes to sex, one common misconception is that pleasure comes from the external. In this episode of Uncoiled by Flowing Grounds, Helena interviews sexologist Dr. Sonjia to uncoil societal expectations and the importance of owning your own sexuality. Dr. Sonjia goes back to basics, providing natural and scientifically-sound ways to improve sexual wellness, including using our five senses and connecting to our chakras, and the physiological benefits of sex. She also gives Helena dating advice with proven tips to heighten arousal and keep the spark alive in long term relationships - most importantly, the one we have with ourselves. After all, no one loves you like you do, and the more you do to love yourself, the more others are attracted to your authentic glow.

Dr. Sonjia, a proud Miami Beach resident, is the best-selling author of Sex in South Beach, a certified sexologist, an associate professor of medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and founder of the CHAMP HIV prevention program.  She received her bachelors degree from UCLA and earned two masters degrees along with her doctorate at Columbia University in New York.  Most recently, Dr. Sonjia became a certified yoga instructor, combining her love of physical fitness and mission to help people have better sex.  Additional offerings include her Yoga for Better Sex fitness class (also available virtually), SENSE aromatherapy body oil, and her podcast Sex in South Beach. The Aesthetic of Authenticity | Marianthi Vlachos

Some say imitation is the best form of flattery, but authenticity has an aesthetic that can't be replicated or appropriated.  For retail entrepreneur and designer Marianthi Vlachos, her unique brands are built from culture, hard work, family, and her "eye" for design.  The freddo cappucinos don't hurt, either. In this episode, Marianthi uncoils the bootstrapping start of her business, becoming a pioneer for Greek Americans as a social media entrepreneur, and how to avoid selling yourself or your ideas short. The answer lies in finding inspiration in your community and truly loving what you do.

Marianthi is the founder of Hellenic Aesthetic®, a jewelry and lifestyle brand that embodies the pace and ethos of Greece.  Hellenic Aesthetic is also the first American retailer exclusive to Greek fashion and products, making them more accessible globally while promoting Greek craftsmanship, travel and culture.  Her most recent collaboration with her brother adds specialty coffee among her products.  To connect with Marianthi and explore her brands, visit www.hellenicaesthetic.com and follow her on instagram at @marianthiv, @risewithapollo, and @hellenicaesthetic. The Duality of Hope | Andrew Reid

The Duality of Hope | Andrew Reid

"Hope is a dangerous thing. It can drive a man insane." Famously stated by Morgan Freeman in the critcally-acclaimed American film The Shawshank Redemption (1994), our relationship with hope can change depending on whether we ultimately get what we wish for. For film director Andrew Reid, hope is tempered by the everyday, from the progress made in recovering from a life-threatening injury to the tightrope across rejection and validation in Hollywood. In this episode, Andrew uncoils these experiences and shares how mindset in the moment keeps him authentic.

Andrew Reid is a disabled Jamaican-Cuban film director residing in Los Angeles.  He is a DGA Award-winning director and MFA graduate from the USC School of Cinematic Arts.  Prior to film school, Andrew earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida.  While he was on spring break in Cancun, Mexico with friends, he suffered a ruptured Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM), which was present at birth but had not yet been discovered. After emergency surgery and during intensive rehabilitation at the hospital, he made another discovery - his passion for working in film.

Inspiration Finds You Working | Sarah Nilson

Inspiration Finds You Working | Sarah Nilson

There is something to be said about quantity over quality. At least when it comes to taking that first step in pursuing a creative project and overcoming perfectionism. In the first episode of Uncoiled by Flowing Grounds, Helena connects with Sarah Nilson, a professional artist residing in Austin, Texas, to uncoil how Sarah began her artistic pursuits and navigates imposter syndrome amid public influence — And why she prescribes jiu jitsu for pretty much anything.

Sarah Nilson is an oil painter, illustrator, and creator of the happiness project "Just Froget About It" on Instagram. While art was always a part of her life, it was not until early 2020 that she started taking things more seriously and committed to a creative practice.
