The Mysterious Case of Ellen Kittel - Murderous Mondays

It is 1872 Essex and Elizabeth Kittel, wife of farm labourer William Kittel, has just died a surprise agonising death. Ellen Wenden, the 20 year old daughter of the famer on whose land William works, swoops in and takes control.
The neighbours have been gossiping for some time about the intimacy that seems to have developed between married 40+ farm labourer William Kittel and 20 year old Ellen Wenden. Within weeks of Elizabeth’s death, Ellen and William are married.
But, questions have arisen regarding the death of the first Mrs Kittel who has been found to have been poisoned.
This interesting case has the second Mrs Kittel being placed on trial for the murder of the first Mrs Kittel. A classic did she or didn’t she murder mystery is today’s episode of Murderous Mondays.

News of the Times Episode 268 | 1776 - 1832
Today’s episode of gibbeted ones looks at three cases where those found guilty of their crime are condemned to what was considered the worst death: gibbeting and hung for all to see as their bodies where slowly eaten by birds.
Our first case from 1776 recounts the story of a butcher who wishes to see for himself if human flesh really does taste like pork…
Our second case from 1815 recounts the tale of Anthony, a young lad who has gotten a local girl pregnant. Anthony looks for any way he can to avoid the financial responsibilities he will be saddled with for years to come.
Our third case is the famous Cook case from 1832 where, pressed to pay an outstanding debt, Cook snaps. What unfolds is an attempt to completely annihilate the debt collector requesting payment. It was the last case of gibbeting in England before its abolishment.
Three cases where gibbeting was handed down – the ultimate punishment – in today’s episode of Wicked Wednesdays.

1882 Whitechapel and immigrants Mr Stanger and his wife, Elizabeth Stanger, start up what becomes a very successful bakery. It is so successful, additional help is needed. Enter family friend, Mr Fritz Stumm.
Local gossips quickly start to whisper about the clear affection between Mrs Stanger and Mr Stumm. And then, quite abruptly, Mr Stanger vanishes! Within a week, Mr Stumm has left his wife and moved into the Stanger household. The depletion of bank accounts, and the signing over of the bakery to Stumm quickly follows – and yet, there is no accounting of where Mr Stanger has gone. The bakery meat pies are looked at with a fresh eye by the neighbourhood…
Scotland Yard were called into this case as the hunt for the expected body was on.
We take a look at the story behind the mysterious disappearance of Mr Stanger in today’s episode of Murderous Mondays.

From 1912 Hungary, one of the worst serial killers, enticing women around the world with promises of marriage, began his horrific spree. Bela Kiss, popular with neighbours and always with plenty of money to spend, killed woman after woman, girl after girl, and then pickled them n alcohol or buried them around his house. Bodies were found in his hen house, shed, garden, and the surrounding woods as well as in the ominous caskets found in his cellar. When he was not fully killing women, he would entice women, knock them out and take their possessions, leaving them in the street.

1892 Abergavenny and frequent visitor of the local police, who has only just been released, is found dead in a heap with her throat cut all the way to the spine. As the country as a whole is still recovering from the nightmare of Jack the Ripper, there is an element of panic.
Our second tale from 1875 was infamous in Wales at the time. The Anglesey Clerical Scandal started off as an investigation into a mysterious death. But what rapidly unfolds is a case involving incest and fraud with a curate in charge of two parishes and the private chaplain to Lord Bolton.

Rejection not being taken well is a theme that has not changed over time. In today’s episode we look at five cases involving jilted lovers and the vengeance they extract.
Our first story from 1871 involves an older lodger and his attraction to the young maiden of the house who kindly declines. What happens is horror.
Our second story involves a less murderous tale of a school mistress who is jilted twice by the same man. It is a costly change of heart.
Our third story from 1892 involves a man on the brink of marriage who is unequivocally dumped weeks away from his wedding. The result is a double murder.
Our fourth story is a short story of jilted love from France.
Our last story is a relationship between a prisoner and his girl on the outside who has had enough of waiting for him. Vengeance is his.
Five tales of love lost and the vengeance extracted is today’s episode of Wicked Wednesdays.

Charles Peace, a notorious figure in Victorian England, was infamous for his criminal activities as a master burglar and murderer. Born in Sheffield in 1832, Peace developed a knack for deception and disguise, earning him the moniker of the "man of a thousand faces."
As a type of “Moriarty” character, despite his outward appearance as a well-dressed and respectable gentleman, Peace led a double life of crime. He carried out daring burglaries, often using his skills as a locksmith to gain entry into wealthy homes.
One of Peace's most notorious acts was the murder of Arthur Dyson, the husband of a woman with whom Peace had allegedly been romantically involved.
