Whitechaple, East London, England, 1888. A man only known by the moniker Jack the Ripper terrorizes the city from August to November with a string of 5 murders, each more gruesome than the last. Preying on ladies of the night, Jack's spree dumbfounded Law Enforcement and to this day no one knows who he really was. From his method of murder, to the "keepsakes" taken, to the letters possibly sent by Jack to the media or those trying to catch him, what took place over those few month caught the world by storm and turn Jack into the first publicized Serial Killer. Why are you still reading this...let's get to it.

    244 - Jack The Ripper Part 1

    244 - Jack The Ripper Part 1

Beginning a two part series on Jack the Ripper, we discuss the victims of the Whitechapel murders, both those attributed to the ripper and those before and after that might be related.  Most of the victims have often been dismissed over the years as prostitutes of little interest and we spend some time in this episode discussing the situation they were in living in Whitechapel at the time and some of their background.

Warning: Some very unpleasant details discussed

    Documentaries:

    1. The Enduring Mystery of Jack the Ripper (LEMMiNO. Published, 2021) It has a dynamic VO and some great overhead map graphics that give a comparatively emotion-less and conspiracy-less version of events. Nothing graphic of the murders - a play-by-play. Entertains 4 suspects: Charles Cross, Joseph Barnett, Aaron Kosinski and Francis Tumblety.
    2. UNMASKING JACK the RIPPER (electrictheaterco. Published, 2020 ) This one has some great period photography and less-cringy re-enactments. They interview several experts and discuss some of the favored suspects - including Kosinski. They interview one of his elderly surviving descendants.
    3. The Missing Evidence: Jack the Ripper (Smithsonian Channel. Published 2018) What really compelled me about this one is that it purports just one suspect and certainly makes a convincing case by the end. In fact, since watching this one and then encountering the story repeated times since - I wonder how no one else sees it… Charles Cross. The investigator is Swedish Journalist Christer Holmgren.

    Jack The Ripper

    Jack The Ripper

During the late summer and fall of 1888, a district in East London was being terrorized by an unknown Victorian serial killer. In a September 25th letter addressed to the Central News Agency, the yet to be identified murderer boasted of his recent killings and signed the letter “Jack the Ripper”. That name has endured for over 133 years, and the case remains open to this day. Why are we still fascinated by this case? With over 100 suspects, why was it never solved? Here in Episode 31, we walk you through the facts of what is known about the most notorious murderer the world has ever known.

Crossed Sword Sticks - Dr Thomas Bond and Jack the Ripper, #8 of 100 Bloody Objects

Jack the Ripper has dominated the consciousness of the British public and crime fiction since the Victorian era.  In late 1888, 5 gruesome murders occurred in London’s Whitechapel and the legend of the Ripper was born.  The man on his trail was the surgeon and pathologist Thomas Bond, an expert in forensics and the medical detective who wrote the world’s first criminal profile.

Mary Ann Nichols (found August 31, 1888), Annie Chapman (found September 8, 1888), Elizabeth Stride (found September 30, 1888), Catherine Eddowes (also found September 30, 1888), and Mary Jane Kelly (found November 9, 1888).  These women were the tragic victims of these appalling crimes.

This was the beginning of serious pathology and the initial steps into unravelling the minds and behaviour of criminals and killers.  Thomas Bond was a classic Victorian, a man who had been at the front during the Austro-Prussian war, who prided himself on riding to hounds with every hunt in England and whose suggested cure for depression was a pint of burgundy and a pint of champagne on alternative days of the week.  His was a world of grime discoveries and Holmesian like sleuthing.  Yet time, injury and the dark aspects of his work were to take their toll.  Bond became a laudanum addict and in 1901 threw himself to his death.  His pioneering work laid the foundation for police forensics and offender profiling today.

Episode #70 feat. Zach Householder of Whitechapel

Episode #70 feat. Zach Householder of Whitechapel

It seems you all enjoyed the heavy episode we had a couple of weeks back so we're doing it all over again, this time with Whitechapel's Zach Householder who joins the podcast to chat about the band's exceptional new album The Valley. Despite being in the game for over a decade, it seems Zach, like most of us, is his own harhest critics and from time to time can get caught up in the opinions for others, especially when it comes to their music.

He talks to Browny about the way he deals with criticisms (not that it's needed for their latest offering) and also how they went about creating such hard-hitting, emotionally brutal songs which were inspired by the real-life events of frontman Phil Bozeman. He also hints at when the band will be making their return down under after not touring here since 2014.

There's also plenty of New Music to get you into a throwdown mood from Earth Caller, The Gloom In The Corner, Cursed Earth, Abnormality, Born of Osiris and Falling in Reverse, throwbacks from Emmure and Slipknot + heaps more!

Episode #68 feat. Sharpy the Blade of Boris The Blade

Episode #68 feat. Sharpy the Blade of Boris The Blade

There's a certain stigma surrounding the Death Metal/Core genre where some naysayers refuse to listen to it due to the sheer intensity of the music and bellowing screams being flung their  way, but once you can push past the barriers, you'll discover enlightenment through some of the heaviest riffs and blast beats on this planet and a band who are renown for infecting the masses with their brutal sounds is Boris The Blade, who unfortunately, have announced they're pulling the pin on the band after almost a decade together.

Arguably up there with the great heavy acts from Australia, the guys have toured the globe and were even called upon to play at the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival, a dream frontman Sharpy The Blade never thought possible when he used to watch the DVDs of the show growing up. He joins podcast host Browny to chat all about the band's epic farewell tour, the reason why they're all heading in different directions and some of his fav memories from over the years. He also goes into detail about why they're kicking things off in Sunbury, a remote semi-rural town outside of Melbourne where the band was first conceived.

We also take a look at the HUGE NEWS surrounding Slipknot which has seen OG member Chris Fehn being publically ousted from the group following allegations he was taking the band to court over pay disputes. Find out what was said ahead of their tour with Metallica later this year.

There's also plenty of HEAVY AF new music to get through from Alpha Wolf, Whitechapel and HellYeah, throwbacks from Suicide Silence, Bring Me The Horizon, iwrestledabearonce, Gravemind and heaps more...

Episode #58 feat. Joey Jordison of Sinsaenum

Episode #58 feat. Joey Jordison of Sinsaenum

As heavy music fans, we tend to follow our favourite musicians throughout their careers and all the different projects they start up or are apart of and this week's special guest co-host is a prime example of that as we say G'Day to legendary drummer Joey Jordison of the new, death/black metal hybrid Sinsaenum. The HEAVY AF supergroup is made up of various metal musicians including Frédéric Leclercq of Dragonforce, Stéphane Buriez from Loudblast, Dååth's Sean Zatorsky, Mayhem frontman Attila Csihar and SETH's Heimoth.

The new band is brutally heavy and will be making their debut in Australia next week so we had to get him on to find out all about the band's conception for you and if his other side-project Vimic was still active, considering they never made it down under for fans.

Also, Joey's old band Slipknot surprise released a new song on Halloween and you better believe we're going to give that bad boy a spin. There's also New Music from Whitechapel, While She Sleeps, Bring Me The Horizon and Behemoth, throwbacks from Cradle of Filth, Amenra, Once Human, Mayhem and heaps more
