This time we go back to 1934 and examine when Hitler purged the Nazi 'party' quite literally, Bonnie and Clyde met their grizzly end and cats eyes became a feature of British roads thanks to Percy Shaw. All whilst drinking a dubious bottle of German white...

2020: The impeachment of Trump, George Floyd Jr and COVID19 vaccines

As up to date as we dare to go this time with 2020: the year of lockdown. We re-donned our facemasks and reminisced about the year that saw us stay indoors. We have focused our attention on the impeachment of Donald Trump, the death of George Floyd Jr and the rollout of COVID19 vaccines.

So new term, new season! Into the 19th century this time, looking at 1833. Our invention comes from Richard Trevithick - with the steam locomotive, our person is Alfred Nobel and our event is the abolition of slavery in (most of) the British Empire.

    1963

    1963

Well ooops. There are many reasons that this episode, recorded way back in February to mark (partly) Black History Month in the US didn't make it to air - the main one is that Howarth didn't do it.

Well we are back and here is a cracker! Looking at 1963 and the significance of the event of the Great Train Robbery, the idea of assassinations (in particular JFK) and Martin Luther King and his I Have A Dream Speech.

    1939

    1939

It all began with the forging of a great podcast episode at the request of a fan. Idea was given to the Anglo-Saxon notion of collective responsibility; immortal, wisest and fairest of all policing systems. Next the event, a great discovery of the Sutton Hoo boat burial. And finally, the person was Edith Pretty who gifted the finds to the race of Men, who above all else desire dirty old tat.

Vintage History has listened to your requests and brings you 1939/the Saxon period!

YNDHP21 - The Battles of Gate Fulford and Stamford Bridge

Dallam School may have closed its doors but Ye Newe Dallam History Podcast still records podcasts together!

We can't resist the glory days of the Saxons and as the people of York were forced to stay in and isolate by the Viking hordes of Harald Hardrada outside the walls, we look what led to this in the Battle of Gate Fulford and what came next in the Battle of Stamford Bridge.

See how the leaders of the day made clear plans and dropped them as soon as shizzle went down in the North - we are talking about you Dom... We have a features question and plenty of jokes and advice on where to find more information (on 1066, not on where to get eye tests).

Along the way there will always be games and jokes but mainly this is serious history. Well as serious as we get!

Dallam School may have closed its doors but Ye Newe Dallam History Podcast still records podcasts together!

After the VE Day celebrations we have gone for the (slightly during and) post war conferences, Tehran, Yalta and Potsdam. Looking at the consequences question and exploring some of the big decisions that were made and shaped the Cold War to come.

Along the way there will always be games and jokes but mainly this is serious history. Well as serious as we get!

This time we have gone for the Bayeux Tapestry - its content and historical importance. We focused on the features question (oh and the penises...)

Along the way there will always be games and jokes but mainly this is serious history. Well as serious as we get!

    YNDHP18 - Whitechapel in the 1880s

Dallam School may have closed its doors but Ye Newe Dallam History Podcast still recorded one last podcast together.

As we didn't know that GCSEs for 2020 would be canceled at that point we did a podcast for the first question of Paper One, looking at the environment of Whitechapel and some of the key places.

Along the way there will always be games and jokes but mainly this is serious history. Well as serious as we get!

YNDHP17 - The Black Death & The Statute of Labourers Act

YNDHP17 - The Black Death & The Statute of Labourers Act

In January 1349, Parliament was prorogued on the grounds that: 'the plague and deadly pestilence had suddenly broken out in the said place and the neighbourhood, and daily increased in severity so that grave fears were entertained for the safety of those coming here at the time.'

In March 2020 Dallam School closed its doors but Ye Newe Dallam History Podcast was still recording and felt the need to cover the Black Death for some reason. A GCSEish one with some technique for the similarity question but really just a chance to be topical. Oh and we cover the Statute of Labourers (1351), which was a law intended to maintain prices and wages as they had been before the 'pestilence'... that is more Crime and Punishmenty!

Along the way there will always be games and jokes but mainly this is serious history. Well as serious as we get!

    YNDHP16 - The Berlin Wall (1958-1963)

It's episode 16! Ye Newe Dallam History Podcast is still out recording in Germany and were inspired by a visit to the 'Wall' or  “Anti-Fascist Protective Rampart” to be precise! A GCSE/IB hybrid once more covering the building and fall out from the wall as Gribbin and Howarth take you through the construction as well as the consequence question on Paper 2 of the GCSE.

Along the way there will always be games and jokes but mainly this is serious history.
