SmackDaddies 158 - As God As My Witness, He’s Broken in Half…

    enJune 29, 2024
What significant events did Brad and Greg discuss during their review?
Who graduated from high school in the text?
What were the notable appearances at the WWE event?
How did storytelling enhance the wrestling matches mentioned?
What improvements were suggested for match presentations in WWE?

    Podcast Summary

    • Busy Weeks, Shared StoriesDespite busy schedules, Brad and Greg found joy in sharing stories during their Smackdown review, emphasizing the importance of connection and creating enjoyable moments amidst hectic weeks.

Despite their busy weeks filled with work, graduations, and family obligations, Brad and Greg still found time to enjoy each other's company and share stories during their Smackdown review. Brad's daughter graduated from high school and went to prom, while Greg's family had a week filled with dental appointments. They reminisced about their childhood memories and shared their experiences, proving that even the busiest of weeks can be made enjoyable with good company and shared experiences. Additionally, they discussed the importance of finding a co-host for Brad when he's away, and Brad shared his wife's cooking skills and the delicious meals she prepared during his absence. Overall, the conversation showcased the importance of connection and sharing stories, even during the busiest of times.

    • Comfortable learning environmentProviding a comfortable learning environment is essential for effective teaching and learning, regardless of whether it's an old or new building.

Despite the advancement of technology towards digital report cards, there's still a charm in the traditional paper copies. A child's unique and thoughtful gift for his teacher, a painted apple or a pie-covered teacher t-shirt, adds excitement to the last day of school. However, the lack of air conditioning in a brand new high school was a surprising discovery. This oversight in modern school buildings was contrasted with the lengthy and laborious process of heating old homes with wood. The importance of having a comfortable learning environment, whether in old or new buildings, should not be overlooked.

    • Departure from formulaic walk-insThe opening segment of SmackDown featured a chaotic brawl between Bloodline and Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, and Kevin Owens, marking a departure from the usual formalities and providing an exciting start to the show

This week's episode of SmackDown featured a high-energy opening segment with the Bloodline facing off against Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, and Kevin Owens. The segment started with a surprise attack and lacked the usual formalities, such as theme songs and long stares before the fight. The brawl resulted in a chaotic scene with the faces remaining in the ring and security trying to intervene. The segment ended with the NYPD escorting the wrestlers out of the arena. Despite some questionable costumes for the security personnel, the segment was well-received and provided an exciting start to the show. Overall, the segment marked a departure from the formulaic walk-ins and recaps, adding a sense of unpredictability and excitement to SmackDown.

    • Wrestling dynamics and fan engagementThe unpredictability of wrestling matches and the impact of fan engagement and unexpected events on a wrestler's career were discussed in the podcast, highlighting the importance of both factors in shaping the outcome of matches and determining a wrestler's success.

The dynamics of a wrestling match can be unpredictable, as seen in the match between Jade, Candace Lorre, and Tiffany Stratton. Despite expectations, Candice emerged as the winner. The discussion also touched upon how newcomers to the main roster can struggle to gain momentum and how unexpected absences or events can impact the outcome of a match. Additionally, the importance of fan engagement and the impact of social media were highlighted, as Tiffany's online presence led to her being put on the shelf and ultimately contributing to her rise in the WWE. The podcast also mentioned the recurring theme of heels ganging up on the face in the match, and the unexpected involvement of Nia Jax and Bianca Belair. The unpredictability of wrestling matches and the role of fan engagement and unexpected events in shaping a wrestler's career were the key takeaways from the discussion.

    • Unexpected twists and NBA stars appearanceWWE's Madison Square Garden event featured surprise acknowledgement ceremonies, a triple threat match, and NBA stars Galen Brunson and Tyrese Haliburton, leading to a brawl and multiple sellouts, showcasing WWE's broad appeal beyond sports entertainment.

WWE's Madison Square Garden event featured several unexpected twists and turns, including an acknowledgement ceremony for Paul Heyman, a triple threat match between Santos Escobar, Logan Paul, and LA Knight, and an appearance by NBA stars Galen Brunson and Tyrese Haliburton, leading to a brawl in the ring. The event also marked a significant milestone for WWE with multiple sellouts for both televised and live events, and the attendance of notable guests like Lin Manuel Miranda and NBA stars. Despite some disagreements on the entertainment value of the matches, the event showcased the popularity and reach of WWE beyond sports entertainment.

    • Wrestling storytellingEffective storytelling in wrestling can enhance simple matches, with unexpected twists and interplay between matches increasing engagement and memorability. Announcing matches strategically can also heighten their impact.

Effective storytelling in professional wrestling can make a simple match more engaging and memorable. The triple threat match between Blair Davenport, Indy Hartwell, and Naomi for a Women's Money in the Bank qualifier was an example of this, as the heels' interaction on the outside led to an unexpected interference and a win for Naomi. However, the way the match was presented, with the announcement of the next week's matches beforehand, could have been improved for maximum impact. The surprise return of Jade and the ensuing chaos made for an exciting finish, but announcing the match after the interference would have made the moment even more effective. Additionally, the unexpected turn of events in the main event, with solo secoa's reveal as the new tribal chief and the acknowledgement ceremony, showcased the importance of unexpected twists in wrestling storytelling. Overall, the interplay between matches and unexpected twists made for an engaging and memorable wrestling experience.

    • Excessive violence in WWEThe excessive violence in the WWE SmackDown episode 'God is my witness He's broken in half' took the focus away from the intended message and left viewers feeling tired instead of engaged.

The WWE SmackDown episode titled "God is my witness He's broken in half" saw an excessive and unnecessary beating of Paul Heyman by various wrestlers, culminating in a powerbomb through the announcer's table. The fans, including the speaker, couldn't hear Paul Heyman's reaction due to poor audio quality. The episode could have ended with the Samoan spike, but instead, the wrestlers continued the attack. The overkill nature of the attack took viewers out of the moment and felt tiresome. The segment was otherwise enjoyed for its intensity and the demonstration of the new bloodline's ruthless nature.

    • WWE SmackDown MSGStandout performances from Corbin, Crews, and Reigns, high energy, and fan excitement set the stage for upcoming events and changes, despite minor issues with ads in the Canadian feed

The WWE SmackDown episode at Madison Square Garden delivered an entertaining show with standout performances from Baron Corbin, Apollo Crews, and Roman Reigns, despite some areas requiring modifications. The crowd's reactions added to the excitement, and the show's energy was high, setting the stage for upcoming events like Money in the Bank and the move to Netflix in Canada. Additionally, WWE continues to provide extensive coverage across various platforms, including live events and digital content. Despite some ads on the Canadian feed being a turnoff, the anticipation for the upcoming changes, such as the Owen Hart tournament and potential talent moves between promotions, keeps fans engaged. Overall, SmackDown at MSG was a fun and memorable night in the wrestling world.
