Society’s Arbitrary Rules Are Causing Unhappiness

    enJanuary 18, 2022

    Podcast Summary

    • Understanding the impact of backgrounds and experiences on feedbackRecognize the importance of self-awareness and adaptability to effectively receive and learn from feedback, regardless of unconventional approaches or personal backgrounds.

Our backgrounds and experiences shape how we perceive feedback and value external validation. For those on a more traditional career path, the unconventional approaches of entrepreneurs and influencers can offer valuable lessons. Gary Vaynerchuk emphasized the importance of understanding one's strengths and weaknesses, as well as the power of DNA in shaping our comfort zones. He shared his own struggles with delivering radical candor due to his optimistic nature and upbringing that heavily valued outside affirmation. The lesson here is to recognize the importance of self-awareness and adaptability. We've all won the lottery of being human beings, and it's crucial to consider whether we want to live with regret or embrace the challenges that come with growth and change.

    • Embrace risks and humility for a fulfilling life onlineDon't let fear or societal expectations hinder personal growth and happiness online. Seek wisdom from older generations and take risks to live a more fulfilling life.

The Internet provides unprecedented opportunities for personal growth and happiness, yet many people are held back by fear and societal expectations. The speaker encourages taking risks and living a more humble life, free from the burden of unnecessary overheads like a mortgage. He shares that people often regret not having taken chances in life, as seen in older generations. The speaker suggests seeking out the wisdom of older individuals to gain a better perspective on life and time. In essence, the Internet offers endless possibilities, and the fear of judgment and financial security should not prevent one from pursuing their passions and living a more fulfilling life.

    • Embrace the journey of entrepreneurship at any ageFocus on starting something passionate, embrace the struggle, and remember everyone's journey is unique, without feeling pressured by societal norms or expectations.

Individuals should not feel pressured by societal norms and expectations to have their lives figured out at a young age. People are living longer than ever before, and 30 or even 25 is only a quarter of the way through one's potential lifespan. Instead, individuals should focus on starting something they're passionate about on the side, whether it be a business or a hobby. Entrepreneurship can be a lonely and challenging journey, but those who truly love it and embrace the struggle will find happiness and success. Society's expectations and the allure of entrepreneurship can lead to unhealthy behaviors like workaholism, but it's important to remember that everyone's journey is unique and there's no need to rush.

    • Reevaluating priorities and taking risksEmbrace personal growth, financial responsibility, and uncertainty by taking calculated risks in life and career.

We need to reevaluate our priorities and approach to spending, particularly when it comes to taking risks in life and career. The speakers in this discussion highlighted the fear of taking risks, even in large corporations, and the tendency to blame external factors rather than taking action. Gary Vaynerchuk emphasized the importance of being more "binary" about happiness and living within our means. He also encouraged individuals to push themselves to take risks and practice challenging themselves. Careers take up a significant portion of our lives, and it's essential to make the most of them by taking calculated risks. Overall, the conversation underscored the importance of personal growth, financial responsibility, and embracing uncertainty.

    • Embrace discomfort for personal growthTrying new, uncomfortable experiences can broaden horizons and foster courage, while recognizing mental privilege and modern parenting's role in resilience can enhance personal growth.

Stepping out of comfort zones and trying new, uncomfortable experiences can lead to personal growth. The speaker encourages individuals to try something unfamiliar, like skiing, cooking, or volunteering at a nursing home. This can provide new perspectives and help build courage to tackle challenges. The speaker also emphasizes the importance of recognizing mental privilege and the impact of modern parenting on fostering resilience and adaptability. By embracing discomfort and challenging ourselves, we can broaden our horizons and grow both personally and socially.

    • Relying on parents for financial support beyond a certain age can create unhealthy environmentsContinuing to take money from parents beyond a certain age can lead to fake environments, fostering a sense of entitlement and discouraging savings and loans.

Relying on parents for financial support beyond a certain age can create unhealthy environments and foster a sense of entitlement. This topic was emphasized in the discussion, with the speaker expressing concern about children who continue to take money from their parents even after reaching the age of 22. The speaker believes that this practice can lead to fake environments, where children are subconsciously told they're not capable and need help, which can result in bad behavior. The speaker also noted that our society doesn't encourage saving money or borrowing and repaying loans from parents, which was a common practice in previous generations. Instead, there's an expectation of entitlement. The speaker emphasized the importance of addressing this issue with empathy and creating an environment of accountability.

The Most Important Question In Business

The Most Important Question In Business

Here’s the problem most people run into when they create content online: They think they have to have something to say. So many of you aren’t putting out content online because you think you need to have the perfect message, or something “valuable” to share (based on your own arbitrary opinion). And what I’m telling you is, you will get more business if you put out literally anything. If you’re an auto dealer, you could put out a 5 min video every afternoon just recapping what happened in your day. If you’re a real estate agent, you could post updates on what your opinions are about the Super Bowl teams. Get on social media and tell your truth … it’s really that simple.

    Courage is our Superpower

    Courage is our Superpower

Fear is a powerful force in all of our lives. We need the awareness so we don't fall of the edge of things or step out into traffic. Fear is helpful, when it comes to our survival but it should not be running our lives.

Too many people are afraid to push out of their so called "comfort zone" for fear of failure (or success) or because they're afraid of what other people will think if they do.

Courage is the superpower that we all have an endless supply of....courage helps us manage fear, helps propel us forward and keeps life interesting.
