Importance of curiosity, preparation, and intentionality, as exemplified by Steven Bartlett. Despite his impressive accomplishments and busy schedule, Steven stands out for his genuine curiosity and thoughtfulness towards his guests and projects. He has transformed himself from an outcast kid with little means to a wildly successful entrepreneur and thought leader, challenging the status quo and generating significant revenue. His story serves as a reminder that with curiosity, discipline, and a willingness to push boundaries, one can overcome adversity and achieve great things. Additionally, the discussion highlights the importance of self-care and balancing ambition with personal well-being. Overall, this conversation offers valuable insights and lessons on business, leadership, personal growth, and the power of curiosity and intentionality.

    • Starting conversations with thoughtful questionsThoughtful questions can lead to deeper, more meaningful conversations. Endurance is important, but consistency and sustainability are crucial for long-term success. Awareness of limitations and prioritization based on values and intentions are essential for effective time management.

The way we begin interactions and conversations, whether through interviews or everyday encounters, can significantly impact their outcome. Asking thoughtful questions that allow people to share their true feelings can lead to deeper, more meaningful conversations. Endurance is important, but consistency and sustainability are crucial for maintaining focus and achieving long-term success. It's essential to be aware of our limitations and prioritize our time and energy based on our values and intentions. By considering how we would feel if we had to do something in the present moment, we can make more informed decisions and avoid overextending ourselves. Ultimately, the way we allocate our time and energy reflects our priorities and influences the returns we get in life.

    • Understanding why goals matter and minimizing frictionDiscipline in time management comes from understanding why goals matter and minimizing friction to make them lifelong habits.

Time is our most valuable resource, and the way we allocate it shapes our lives. Discipline is essential in making unregrettable decisions about how we use our time. The speaker emphasizes the importance of understanding why our goals matter to us and balancing the enjoyment of pursuing them with the friction or disengagement they may bring. The speaker's personal experience shows that when the "why" is strong and the friction is minimized, goals can become lifelong habits. Time management techniques may not work without the fundamental skill of discipline. Ultimately, the way we use our time is a reflection of our priorities and values.

    • Understanding why we act helps maintain disciplineRecognizing the reasons behind our actions and creating systems to reduce friction can help maintain discipline and make meaningful progress in our lives

Understanding the reasons behind our actions and focusing on reducing the friction in pursuing our goals can help us maintain discipline and make meaningful progress in our lives. This framework, as discussed, involves recognizing the "why" that drives us, even if the enjoyment or pleasure from the task is low and the effort required is high. By reminding ourselves of the importance of the goal and creating systems that make the pursuit easier, we can overcome the friction and stay motivated. This idea applies to various aspects of life, from personal habits to organizational structures. For instance, just as city architecture can influence healthy choices, incentive structures in companies can foster innovation. Similarly, in our own lives, identifying and addressing the sources of friction can help us maintain discipline in areas that require it, such as regular exercise.

    • The power of self-story and self-integrityRecognize the impact of personal narratives on actions, stay true to values, and prioritize self-integrity despite inconvenience.

The stories we tell ourselves about who we are significantly impact our actions and ultimately shape our lives. Dan shared his personal struggle with maintaining his gym routine and keeping his promise to himself, even when it was inconvenient. He emphasized the importance of self-integrity and living in alignment with one's values, even if the results are not immediately visible to others. Dan also acknowledged the importance of understanding and articulating the story of oneself as a public figure, but recognizing that ultimately, the controllable factor is one's actions and how they influence others' perceptions. The conversation highlights the power of self-reflection and the importance of staying true to oneself, even when it's challenging.

    • Trusting inner voice for authentic livingPrioritize feelings for authentic decisions, trust inner voice for fulfilling life, may mean quitting or leaving situations behind.

The ability to apply new knowledge and ideas to one's life with ease and facility, and to gracefully move away from situations that don't serve us, is a valuable trait that leads to a faster path to the life we want. This trait, which can be thought of as an authentic inner voice or intuition, is something that many people possess but often repress due to societal and familial expectations. The speaker, in sharing his personal experiences, highlights the importance of prioritizing how we feel in our decision-making process and the potential benefits of trusting and acting on that inner voice, even if it means quitting or leaving situations behind. This approach may not make sense to everyone, but for those who can master it, it can lead to a more authentic and fulfilling life.

    • Trusting inner signals for self-discovery and growthRecognizing and respecting inner signals fuels self-belief and optimism, setting individuals apart and creating a positive upward spiral.

Recognizing and respecting our inner signals and desires is an essential act of self-discovery and personal growth, often overlooked in traditional education and upbringing. This ability, which can be thought of as a form of rebellion against societal norms, is what sets individuals apart and fuels their self-belief and optimism. Speaker's personal experience of growing up with neglectful parents and having to fend for himself at a young age allowed him to experiment and learn about his capabilities, leading to a strong belief in his abilities and an optimistic approach to challenges. This self-belief creates a positive upward spiral, while those who approach challenges with skepticism and fear create a negative downward spiral. Ultimately, it's crucial to understand and trust our inner signals and use them as evidence to build a strong foundation of self-belief.

    • Embracing an upward spiral mindset for personal growthAdopting a positive mindset, learning from failures, having role models, and focusing on impact can lead to personal growth.

Our mindset and the narratives we choose to believe about ourselves and our experiences can significantly impact our personal growth and success. The speaker shares how they've adopted an upward spiral mindset since a young age, which has led them to learn from their failures and accumulate knowledge. They also emphasize the importance of having role models and resources, like podcasts, to gain clarity and insights. However, they also acknowledge that it's a choice to invest in a positive narrative and that negative experiences can be used as fuel for survival, but not necessarily for growth. The speaker also reflects on how shame can still be a motivator, but it's essential to be aware of it and not let it lead us to the wrong goals. Ultimately, it's important to focus on the impact of our work and let go of comparative metrics as the primary measure of success.

    • The importance of fitting in and avoiding rejectionUnderstanding the evolution of status games and focusing on what truly matters can help us manage the fear of rejection and make decisions aligned with our goals and values.

Status games, whether it's through material possessions or social acceptance, have been a part of human nature for survival throughout history. However, the forms of these games change as our circumstances evolve. For instance, when we have less money, large logos may be more prominent, while billionaires may focus on the size of their boats. The importance of fitting in and avoiding rejection is deeply ingrained in us, and can even impact our physiology. In the modern world, this can manifest in various ways, such as social media engagement and the fear of negative comments. To manage this, it can be helpful to limit our exposure to potential sources of rejection and focus on what truly matters to us. Ultimately, our bodies are not against us, but rather working to keep us alive. Understanding this perspective can help us transcend the influence of status games and make decisions that align with our goals and values.

    • Understanding our protective mechanismsRecognizing the origins and impact of our traits fosters deeper connections and self-compassion, allowing us to learn and respond differently.

Our bodies and our psychological frameworks are designed to protect us, and understanding this can help us approach our challenges with empathy and self-compassion. Whether it's our weight, our character defects, or our defense mechanisms, they all serve a purpose. For instance, growing up with harsh discipline may have instilled a strong work ethic, but it could also lead to a strained relationship with a parent. In such cases, recognizing the origins of these traits and the impact they've had on our lives can help bridge gaps and foster deeper connections. Ultimately, it's essential to remember that these aspects of ourselves are not controlling us; instead, we have the agency to learn from them and respond in contrast.

    • The Power of Vulnerability in LeadershipVulnerability is a powerful tool for leaders to build deeper connections and lead effectively. Sharing struggles and experiences increases feelings of connection and oxytocin levels in others.

Vulnerability and authenticity are key components of effective leadership and human connection. The speaker shares his personal struggle with his family's inability to understand his work and his desire for deeper connections with them. He also reflects on the societal norms that discouraged vulnerability and authenticity in leaders during his upbringing. However, he discovered the power of vulnerability through sharing his own struggles and experiences in a podcast. He found that vulnerability is in high demand but low supply, and that when we share our struggles, it increases feelings of connection and oxytocin levels in others. The speaker encourages leaders to embrace vulnerability and authenticity to build stronger relationships and lead more effectively.

    • The Power of VulnerabilityVulnerability leads to profound connections, is cathartic, empowering, and liberating, but can be frightening. Authenticity is valued in the age of social media, but young people are skilled at detecting genuine vs performative authenticity, and the impact of social media on their brains is a concern.

Vulnerability, the act of sharing our deepest emotions and struggles, can lead to profound connections with others. This experiment of vulnerability, as the speaker learned, can be beneficial not only for the person sharing but also for those who listen and relate. Vulnerability can be frightening, but it is also cathartic, empowering, and liberating. It can help us realize that our vulnerabilities do not define us and that people are more likely to connect with us when we are authentic rather than perfect. The age of social media has accelerated this trend towards authenticity, but it also brings the challenge of discerning between genuine and performative authenticity. Young people, who have grown up in the social media era, are particularly skilled at detecting authenticity due to their constant exposure to performances. However, the impact of social media on young brains is a concerning question that requires further exploration. Ultimately, the act of being vulnerable and sharing our humanity can be a powerful magnet towards connection.

    • Impact of Technology on Children and Podcast VulnerabilityTechnology can negatively impact young children's development and behavior. Podcast vulnerability, though popular and beneficial, requires significant time and effort, making consistent production a challenge.

Technology, specifically smartphones, can have a hypnotic effect on young children, potentially impacting their development and behavior. Meanwhile, for the Diary of a CEO podcast, the host shared that while vulnerable, diary-style episodes were popular and personally beneficial, they require significant time and effort, making it challenging to consistently produce them as the podcast grows in popularity. The host also expressed feeling unsure about where to fit these episodes into his already busy schedule. The conversation highlighted the costs and benefits of vulnerability and technology use, encouraging reflection on prioritizing authenticity and connection in both personal and professional spheres.

    • The importance of rest for improved performanceRecognizing the need for rest and building in rest intervals can lead to better performance and sustainability in the long run.

While discipline and hard work are essential for achieving goals, taking a break or stopping completely can also be a healthy and necessary part of the process. This idea may be difficult for some, especially those who are used to constant productivity and are resistant to the idea of doing nothing. However, recognizing the importance of rest and building in rest intervals, whether it's a micro cycle like taking a day off or a macro cycle like taking a sabbatical, can lead to improved performance and sustainability in the long run. It's important to reflect on our priorities and consider how we can make time for rest and relaxation, even if it means making some changes or experiencing a bit of discomfort.

    • Belief in self-capabilities and linking self-worth to external outcomesThe speaker's obsession with achieving potential stems from a belief in self-capabilities and a correlation between self-worth and external outcomes, but fear of relinquishing control and potential identity threat hinders complete realization of potential.

The speaker's obsession with achieving and manifesting potential stems from a deep-rooted belief in their self-capabilities and a correlation they perceive between their self-worth and external outcomes. This belief, while driven by a strong sense of self-confidence, also harbors a fear of relinquishing control and a potential threat to identity. The speaker's ego plays a significant role in this mindset, as they believe themselves to be the sole puppeteer of their latent potential. The speaker's self-esteem seems to be linked to their progress on this never-ending track of achievement, creating a bias towards believing that their outcomes are heavily dependent on their actions. However, the speaker acknowledges that there might be a missing piece to the puzzle, as they cannot fully see the relationship between their self-worth and external results. This self-inquiry was initially sparked by a conversation with Radhana Swamy about being enough and being loved for who they are, which the speaker initially dismissed but later came to realize its truth over time.

    • The difference between real and fake ambitionReal ambition is driven by genuine desire, while fake ambition seeks external validation. Authenticity and serving others are key to finding meaning and happiness.

True ambition and fake ambition are two different things. Real ambition comes from within and is driven by a genuine desire to achieve something, while fake ambition is often rooted in a desire for admiration or external validation. The speaker shares his personal experience of realizing this distinction and how it changed his perspective on life and goals. He also mentions the importance of authenticity and the idea that you cannot transmit something you don't have yourself. The speaker also touches upon the idea of finding meaning and happiness through work that serves others and something transcendent, which resonates with the concept of the podcast and the Ikigai guide. Ultimately, the conversation emphasizes the importance of self-reflection and understanding the true motivations behind our goals and actions.

    • Discovering meaning and value in life through service and spiritualityFinding a passion that brings meaning and value to your life and others is the most fulfilling experience, even if it's not the most profitable. Spirituality and service can play a significant role in personal growth and living a meaningful life.

Finding a passion or pursuit that brings meaning and value to both your life and the lives of others is the most fulfilling experience, even if it may not be the most profitable financially. This concept, which can be considered a form of service or offering, was emphasized by the speaker as the most enjoyable and rewarding aspect of their life. They also shared their personal journey of discovering awe and wonder in the universe and the importance of humility and uncertainty in living a meaningful life. Additionally, the speaker highlighted the correlation between spirituality and recovery programs like AA, which emphasize the importance of a higher power and surrender in personal growth. Overall, the speaker's message emphasizes the importance of finding meaning and purpose in life, beyond just personal gain, and the role that spirituality and service can play in that journey.

    • Unlocking Full Capacity: Engage with Heart, Listen Inner Voice, Practice StillnessTo unlock full potential, engage heart, listen inner voice, practice stillness. Believe in greater returns of meditation, prioritize time, seek spiritual partner or mentor.

While having a strong sense of self and intuition can be an effective fuel source in life, it can also limit your greatest potential. To unlock your full capacity, it's essential to understand that there are forces greater than ourselves at work. This can be achieved by engaging with the heart, listening to your inner voice, and practicing stillness and quietude. Meditation and mindfulness practices can help in this regard. However, resistance to incorporating these practices into daily life may stem from prioritization issues. To make time for practices like meditation, it's necessary to believe that they will reap greater returns on investment than other commitments. Ultimately, having a spiritual partner or mentor can provide valuable insights and inspire growth.

    • The power of personal experiences in shaping beliefs and practicesExperiences are crucial in developing a strong discipline towards practices like meditation. Personal transformative effects of practices like sleep and breathwork can only be truly understood through personal experience.

The importance and discipline of practices like meditation can be established through firsthand experiences and reducing the friction to engage in them. Our beliefs, especially those related to personal habits and wellbeing, are often influenced most significantly by our own experiences. The speaker emphasizes the need for individuals to seek out these experiences and accept their truth in order to develop a strong discipline towards practices like meditation. The speaker uses examples like sleep and breathwork to illustrate this point, emphasizing that the transformative effects of these practices can only be truly understood through personal experience. The speaker also suggests that skepticism and the requirement for evidence and logic may vary among individuals, and that personal experiences play a crucial role in shaping our beliefs and practices.

    • Challenging mental models and embracing new perspectivesGrowing through challenging paradigms, value of non-threatening disagreements, and importance of being open-minded to new ideas

Our brains are wired to identify patterns to help us make sense of the world, but it's important to question our mental models and be open to new perspectives. The speaker shares how he has grown the most when he's able to challenge his own paradigms and entertain different ideas. He also mentions how his skepticism comes from his upbringing and his family's rejection of superstition in favor of evidence-based thinking. Despite this, he has found value in relationships with partners who see the world differently and challenge him in non-threatening ways. He concludes by noting how his girlfriend has brought about positive changes in him by introducing him to new ideas and experiences, even if he doesn't fully understand the science behind them. Overall, the discussion emphasizes the importance of being open-minded and willing to entertain new ideas, while also requiring evidence and questioning the question.

    • Navigating the Challenges of Public ExposureSuccess brings external influences and negative feedback, but maintaining focus on personal intentions and positive impact is crucial.

The speaker, despite his success, fears the negative feedback and external influences that come with increasing public exposure. He values his personal relationships and intrinsic motivations, but as his platform grows, he risks being swayed by external voices and losing focus on what truly matters to him. The speaker admires those who have managed to maintain their privacy while making a significant impact, but recognizes the trade-off of being in the public sphere. He is working to establish systems to deal with the influx of feedback and information, but is wary of the potential challenges that come with further growth. Ultimately, he hopes to maintain his focus on his intentions and the positive impact of his work, while minimizing the impact of external noise and potential invasions of privacy.

    • The value of creating deep and meaningful contentWriting a book offers a deeper connection and sense of fulfillment compared to other forms of content, despite requiring a greater investment of time and resources.

The value of creating something deep and meaningful, like a book, can outweigh the benefits of more ephemeral forms of content, despite requiring a greater investment of time and resources. The speaker, who is a podcast host and author, shared how his experience of entering the traditional media world led him to write his book, "Diary of a CEO," which he sees as a more impactful and enduring form of connection with his audience. He believes that people's desire for authentic and deep connections will always be in demand, even in a world that seems to be increasingly optimized for the opposite. The process of writing a book offers a sense of fulfillment that goes beyond the reach and monetary value of other forms of content. The speaker encourages those who may not identify with the business world or the role of a CEO to still find value in the book, as it offers insights and depth that can apply to all areas of life.

    • Understanding human behavior for personal growth and effective leadershipInvest in knowledge, focus on progress over results, and practice intentionality for personal and professional growth.

The book "Atomic Habits" by James Clear is a social psychology book that explores the laws and principles to help individuals understand human behavior and live a happier, more fulfilling life. The first third of the book focuses on the self and the importance of personal growth for effective leadership and organization management. The speaker was particularly drawn to the idea that knowledge is the best investment of energy and that progress, rather than results, is a meaningful measure of success. Additionally, the speaker was intrigued by the marketing strategies discussed in the book, such as creating friction between customers and products, and the importance of attention to detail and intentionality in growing a successful venture. The speaker was inspired by the author's level of commitment and intentionality, and recognized the importance of these details in creating special conversations and growing a successful podcast. Overall, the discussion highlighted the importance of self-improvement, understanding human behavior, and intentionality in achieving personal and professional growth.

    • The power of emotional connection and active listening in meaningful conversationsBe present and genuinely interested in the person you're engaging with for deeper, authentic exchanges. Emotional connection and active listening can lead to unexpected and impactful conversations.

Meaningful conversations are driven by emotional connection and active listening rather than rigidly following a predetermined outline or set of questions. The speaker emphasizes the importance of being present and genuinely interested in the person you're engaging with, as this creates an environment where deeper, more authentic exchanges can occur. This approach can lead to unexpected and impactful conversations, as people are more likely to open up when they sense that you're willing to meet them where they are and are interested in their experiences and emotions. The speaker also shares personal anecdotes about how this approach has led to memorable and meaningful conversations in both personal and professional contexts.

    • Why does Elon Musk behave erratically online?Musk's erratic online behavior raises questions about his motivations, with some attributing it to a desire to be a 'chaos agent' and others seeing it as a response to attacks and a need for control, overshadowing his impressive accomplishments.

People are fascinated by understanding the motivations behind others' actions, especially those of influential figures like Elon Musk. Musk, once admired for his innovative achievements, has recently raised questions due to his erratic online behavior and shift towards divisive rhetoric. Some attribute this change to his desire to be a "chaos agent," enjoying the provocative nature of his actions, while others see it as a response to relentless attacks and a need for control. Regardless of interpretation, Musk's online persona has overshadowed his impressive accomplishments, leaving many wondering about his true intentions and happiness.

    • Uncovering Hidden Gems in Podcast GuestsImpactful conversations happen when guests share stories in a raw and vulnerable way. Podcast hosts create a safe environment to encourage this. Unearthing hidden depths in unexpected guests can surprise and inspire both host and audience.

Meaningful podcast guests aren't always the most famous or publicly known individuals. The most impactful conversations often occur when the guest is ready to open up and share their story in a raw and vulnerable way. The podcast host plays a crucial role in creating a safe and welcoming environment, allowing the guest to feel comfortable enough to share their deepest thoughts and experiences. Sometimes, the most memorable guests are those who defy expectations, revealing hidden depths and perspectives that surprise both the host and the audience. Ultimately, the value of a podcast lies not just in securing big names, but in unearthing and showcasing the hidden gems, giving them the attention they deserve and potentially changing the trajectory of their lives.

    • The power of genuine curiosity, compassion, and non-judgment in fostering deeper connectionsApproaching interactions with genuine curiosity, compassion, and non-judgment can lead to deeper connections and understanding, fostering meaningful relationships in daily life.

Approaching interactions with genuine curiosity, compassion, and non-judgment can lead to deeper connections and understanding, not just in podcast conversations but in daily life as well. The speaker shared a personal experience where a guest gave him a heartfelt compliment about feeling safe and free from judgment during their conversation. This moment emphasized the importance of meeting people as individuals and understanding their humanity, rather than being influenced by preconceived notions or external information. The speaker acknowledged the challenge of applying this approach in difficult situations with loved ones, but encouraged the idea of bringing a beginner's mind and empathy to these exchanges. Overall, the conversation emphasized the power of presence, compassion, and non-judgment in fostering meaningful connections.

    960 The Voice of Truth

    960 The Voice of Truth

In your life, where does the voice of truth come from? Whose whispers gain your greatest attention?

Maybe it's the constant failures and short-comings.

Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACThttp://facebook.com/groups/thewomenofimpact

Maybe it's the faults of your past.

Maybe it's your own belief that you're never good enough.

Why is it that we hang out with our stumbles and failures questioning our worth?

Never once did God hesitate when He created you; fearfully and wonderfully made, knowing every hair on your head.

Yet where is the voice of truth?

Is it the naysayers, the badgers, the mockers? Is that where your voice of truth is being solidified and defined?

I want you to really think about whom you are putting your trust in.

The K.I.S.S. ~ The Voice of Truth!

REFLECTION: Today, I want you to reflect on these three questions.

    1. Where is the voice of truth coming from?
    2. What is the voice of truth telling you?
    3. How are you using the voice of truth in your life?

If you are hearing God, the only voice of truth, then you know you are loved, given a gift of salvation, and grace for your life's journey.

That's the voice of truth you need to be listening to.

Not the negative CRAP, the doubts and drama of others, and not the daily sagas of self-centered mindsets.

It's all about control, earthly control. What happened to Heavenly control?

Let God wash away the torment of lies that threaten your greatness He's creating within you.

Let it go! Let God have it all!

    Give Him your heart.
Dedicate your life to glorify Him.
Rejoice with the voice of truth.

As you go out this week...

"One step at a time leads to miles of greatness!"

May God bless you this week in all your steps, in all your endeavors. Seek His guidance. Praise His name. The voice of truth!

    651 It's Not What You're Doing

    651 It's Not What You're Doing

Making an impact takes hard work. But it's not what you're doing!

How are you living your life? Reacting or responding? In frustration or in love?

Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACT. http://facebook.com/groups/thewomenofimpact

My daughter sent me a text asking to speak with me. I could tell there was worry, concern and fear. She wouldn't tell me the subject, so I was a little concerned.

She planned for us to meet a few days later. However, her schedule opened up that night. She sent another text requesting us to meet that night. Of course I said yes to come over.

Now my heart sunk into my tummy. All of sudden my heart was doing aerobics without me sweating. I quietly whispered in my head, love unconditionally. Anything she tells you is not the end of the world. It'll be okay. I prayed God to hold my tongue, and only allow me to speak from love, peace, and give her respect.

As she told her story, I sat quietly waiting for the bomb to fall. Finally when she was done, I took her in my arms, held her tight and told her that her dream doesn't stop here.

I could have chosen to attack her and become upset with what she was telling me. But that's not the mom I needed to be.

It's not what you're doing, but HOW you're doing it?

How are you loving your husband? With an attitude of "I guess I have to do this." OR with a tone of unconditional love, "I get to do this."

How are you building your business? Are you building it out of frustration and to spite what your friends and family are chattering about? OR are you building your business with calm, confidence, and consistency?

Ho are you serving strangers? With a chip on your shoulder? OR with a smile to brighten their day?

The K.I.S.S. ~ HOW are you doing it!

It's not what you're doing, but how you're doing it! How are you living your life?

"One step leads to miles of greatness!"
