    Podcast Summary

    • Dan Bongino's Warning Against Defunding the PoliceDan Bongino strongly opposes defunding the police, considering it a dangerous and potentially disastrous policy, and emphasizes his understanding of concerns for police reform and loss of life.

The call to defund the police is a dangerous and potentially catastrophic policy proposal, according to Dan Bongino. He believes it's the most stupid and suicidal idea in American history. Bongino expressed his opinion during his radio show, where he also praised a recent interview with Dinesh D'Souza about socialism. He promised new developments on the Spygate case and shared his thoughts on the NYPD and the swamp. Additionally, Bongino promoted various products and causes during the show, including Duke Cannon's Patriot collection, which donates a portion of sales to Folds of Honor. Bongino also shared audio of a Minneapolis City Council member who voted for defunding the police. Despite the potential negativity of the topic, Bongino emphasized that he understands and sympathizes with those who are concerned about police reform and the loss of life.

    • Cycles of chaos and order in societyPeople demand law and order, regardless of political affiliations, and will vote for leaders who promise it, as seen in Rudy Giuliani's mayoral win in NYC in the 90s. Chaos fades away when bullets fly, emphasizing the importance of order.

History shows us that societies go through cycles of chaos and order. The speaker draws a parallel between the urban chaos experienced in New York City in the 70s and 80s and the current state of affairs, suggesting that we are reaching a turning point where people will demand law and order, regardless of political affiliations. Using the example of Rudy Giuliani's mayoral win in New York City during the 1990s, the speaker emphasizes that people voted for him not because he was a Republican, but because he was known for law and order. The speaker also references the movie "Black Hawk Down" to emphasize that when bullets start flying and chaos descends, politics fade away. The speaker's message is one of hope, suggesting that we are at the bottom of the cycle and that order will eventually return.

    • Discussing the future of police departments in MinneapolisThe push to defund or dismantle police departments in cities like Minneapolis raises questions about public safety and accountability, with some advocating for a police-free future.

There is a growing movement to defund or even dismantle police departments in certain cities, such as Minneapolis. This idea was discussed in a CNN interview between Allison Camarada and Lisa Bender from the Minneapolis City Council. Bender openly admitted that they are working towards a police-free future, leaving the question of who to call during emergencies unanswered. This is not just about reform but dismantling the entire police department. Dan O'Donnell argues that liberalism, which he believes is responsible for this trend, often avoids accountability by blaming previous administrations and the media. He warns that when the consequences of defunding the police hit home, people will demand accountability and question the root cause of their problems: liberalism.

    • Recognizing the Role of Law Enforcement in Our CommunitiesLaw enforcement officers protect kids from threats, secure emergency scenes, and ensure community safety, often going unnoticed or undervalued.

Law enforcement plays a crucial role in ensuring public safety and responding to various emergencies, from terrorism to domestic disputes, that often goes unnoticed or undervalued by some. When you dial 911, it's not the Avengers or the Justice League that shows up, but local law enforcement officers. They are the ones who protect kids from gang threats, secure the scene for emergency responders, and even provide security for emotionally disturbed individuals. It's essential to recognize and appreciate the vital role of law enforcement in our communities, as they are the ones who ensure our safety and respond to crises every day.

    • Defunding the Police: Potential ConsequencesDefunding the police could lead to increased violence and terrorism, as gangs and mobsters might fill the void, and social workers lack the resources to handle serious crimes.

Defunding the police could lead to a breakdown in public safety and potentially deadly consequences. The speaker argues that social workers and other resources are not equipped to handle homicides and missing persons cases, and that calling the police is a privilege. He warns that without law enforcement, gangs and mobsters would fill the void, leading to violence and terrorism. The speaker urges those who support defunding the police to reconsider the potential consequences and not move to communities that value law and order. He emphasizes that it's one country and all citizens deserve safety and security.

    • Liberals seek full state power, viewing obstacles as hindrancesHistorically, giving the state too much power can lead to chaos, but strong conservative movements often follow, encouraging optimism for a better future

According to the discussion, liberals, as per an article in the Wall Street Journal by Anastasia O'Grady, aim for full state power and view obstacles like organized religion, family values, and even successful businesses as hindrances to their goals. The speaker believes that the current trend towards chaos is a sign that people are starting to realize the potential dangers of giving the state too much power, and that history shows us that after periods of chaos, there are often strong conservative movements. The speaker encourages optimism and believes that we will come back from the current situation, but we must first hit rock bottom. The discussion also featured a promotion for Genucel, a skincare product offering double the order for free and discounts with the code Dan30.

    • Values and Individual Rights pose a challenge to state powerJudeo-Christian values and belief in individual rights create a moral framework incompatible with state's ability to treat people unfairly and restrict freedoms. Left seeks to detach people from these values and replace with state-centric worldview, using tactics like indoctrination and bullying.

The attachment to objective values, particularly Judeo-Christian values, and the belief in individual rights and freedoms, as embodied in the concepts of God-given rights and the family, pose a significant challenge to those seeking to consolidate absolute state power. These values, which include the belief in the sanctity of life and the wrongness of stealing, create a moral framework that is incompatible with the state's ability to treat people unfairly and take their property, as well as restrict individual freedoms. The left, recognizing this, seeks to detach people from these values and replace them with a state-centric worldview, using tactics such as indoctrination, moral justification of violence, and bullying to achieve their goals. This creates a dangerous environment where peaceful resistance is met with violence and intimidation, and where individual freedoms and property rights are at risk.

    • Media's role in suppressing dissenting opinionsThe media is manipulating public perception by silencing opposition, bullying individuals, and gaslighting known truths, ultimately pushing people towards relinquishing their freedoms to the government.

The current societal climate is witnessing an increase in censorship and suppression of dissenting opinions, particularly regarding the ongoing civil unrest. The media is playing a significant role in this by bullying individuals into conformity and gaslighting known truths. The New York Times, as an example, terminated its entire opinion page leadership for publishing an op-ed by a US Senator suggesting the use of military force to maintain order. This Orwellian environment aims to silence opposition and manipulate public perception, ultimately pushing people towards relinquishing their freedoms to the government. The middle class, who have much to lose, are targeted to be frightened into compliance. The use of historical examples, such as the Chilean revolution, illustrates this pattern. The media's inability to accept facts and their continuous questioning of truth further exacerbates the situation.

    • Discussion on President's authority during civil unrestThe President has constitutional power to deploy military during civil disorder, contrasting media portrayals of it as unusual or unconstitutional

According to the Insurrection Act of 1807, the President of the United States has the authority to deploy US military and federalize national guard troops within the country during instances of civil disorder, insurrection, and rebellion without the need for a governor's permission. This was the understanding shared during a discussion, which contrasted with a journalist's attempt to portray President Trump's actions as unusual and unconstitutional. The interview also addressed the media's efforts to paint the president as a tyrant, despite his commitment to law and order. The conversation also debunked misconceptions about the president's walk outside the White House and the clearing of the street, which was in response to violent riots and looting. The discussion emphasized the importance of understanding the facts and not being misled by the media's narratives.

    • Protest at Lafayette Park escalates, security increasedDuring a protest at Lafayette Park near the White House, the situation became chaotic and security was increased as a response.

During a protest in Lafayette Park near the White House on Monday, the situation became chaotic and projectiles were being thrown at the police. The park police made the decision to increase the perimeter of the security area and communicate this decision to other law enforcement agencies at 2 p.m. that day. Despite some conflicting reports, multiple sources confirm that the situation was descending into chaos. Colin Powell, a respected former Secretary of State, has not endorsed a Republican president since Abraham Lincoln, but this is not news. Instead, focus on the important issue of the escalating situation at Lafayette Park and the need for increased security measures. Omaha Steaks offers a variety of Father's Day packages with high-quality steaks, burgers, and other grilling favorites. Many packages include free shipping and a free pound of steak cut bacon. Send dad a delicious gift for grilling season.

    • The Bush family and Colin Powell reject Trump's unconventional politicsThe Bush family and Colin Powell, known for their public service, will not support Trump due to policy disagreements and his unconventional approach to governance.

The Bush family and Colin Powell, who have a history of public service, have made it clear they will not be supporting President Trump in the upcoming election. This decision is not just due to policy disagreements, but also because they are invested in the political system and have built careers around it. Trump's unconventional approach to governance, which includes questioning the roles of intelligence agencies and military alliances, has caused friction with these established figures. While some may argue that Trump's actions are necessary, others see them as a threat to the status quo. Regardless of one's personal opinion on the matter, it's clear that the election will see a significant divide between those who support Trump's disruptive style and those who prefer a more traditional approach to politics.

    • Establishment figures opposed to Trump due to loss of power and wealthThe opposition to Trump goes beyond policy disagreements; it's about protecting financial and personal interests of establishment figures.

The opposition to President Trump goes beyond policy disagreements. The establishment figures, including the Bushies, Powells, and Boltons, are threatened by Trump's questioning of long-held assumptions and his dismantling of their influence and financial gains from policy advisory roles. These individuals have built their power and wealth on these policies, and Trump's actions are shaking up their network of connections. The criticism of Trump's tweets is a smokescreen for the real issue, which is the loss of their power and prestige. The same liberals who advocate for gun control and the need for police forces are now calling for their defunding, creating a paradox that is hard to reconcile. This inconsistency exposes the lack of critical thinking among liberals. The swamp is attacking Trump not because of principle, but to protect their financial and personal interests.

    • Political pressures causing potential leadership changes in NYPD and Secret ServicePolitical pressures may lead to resignations or firings of NYPD commissioner and chief, potentially replacing them with left-wing leaders, and could cause mass resignations among rank-and-file officers. The Secret Service faces similar pressure not to fortify the White House, posing a risk to President and others.

The NYPD is facing significant leadership changes and potential decapitation due to political pressures. Both the police commissioner and chief are reportedly considering resigning or being fired, which could lead to a left-wing replacement commissioner and mass resignations among rank-and-file officers. Additionally, the Secret Service is facing unprecedented political pressure to not fortify the White House, which could result in potential harm to the President and other individuals involved. These political pressures are causing concern among law enforcement and could have serious consequences.

    • Duty and service to the country despite political differencesFormer Secret Service agent Dan Bongino emphasized the importance of prioritizing duty and service to the country, even if one disagrees politically with the president. He encouraged listeners to stay strong and expressed optimism for the future, while promoting his new book revealing deep state connections.

Despite political differences, it's important to prioritize duty and service to the country. Dan Bongino, a former Secret Service agent who protected President Barack Obama, emphasized this during his radio show. He clarified that the sources he was referring to were real and not fake, and that he had no issue serving a president with whom he disagreed politically. Bongino also encouraged listeners to stay strong and expressed optimism that the country would soon recover from its current challenges. He then mentioned his new book, "Follow the Money," which he promised would reveal shocking deep state connections to the impeachment and Spygate scandals. He urged listeners to pre-order the book, which he described as a police file that would blow their minds with previously unknown connections. Overall, Bongino's message was one of duty, optimism, and the importance of uncovering the truth.

    Rachel Harmon on Policing

    Rachel Harmon on Policing

Long before becoming a legal scholar focused on police reform, Rachel Harmon studied engineering at MIT and graduate philosophy at LSE. “You could call it a random walk,” she says, “or you could say that I’m really interested in the structure of things.” But despite her experience and training, even she can’t identify a single point of leverage that can radically reform the complicated system of policing in America. “We have been struggling with balancing the harms and benefits of policing since we started contemporary departments, so I don’t think that we’re going to suddenly fix this by flipping one lever.”

She joined Tyler to discuss the best ideas for improving policing, including why good data on policing is so hard to come by, why body cams are not a panacea, the benefits and costs of consolidating police departments, why more female cops won’t necessarily reduce the use of force, how federal programs can sometimes misfire, where changing police selection criteria would and wouldn’t help, whether some policing could be replaced by social workers, the sobering frequency of sexual assaults by police, how a national accreditation system might improve police conduct, what reformers can learn from Camden and elsewhere, and more. They close by discussing the future of law schools, what she learned clerking under Guido Calabresi and Stephen Breyer, why she’s drawn to kickboxing and triathlons, and what two things she looks for in a young legal scholar.

Jeremiah Ellison: The Artist-Activist On Forging Real Change

Jeremiah Ellison: The Artist-Activist On Forging Real Change
This month, events in Minneapolis captured the world’s attention. The recent death of Daunte Wright and the conviction of Derek Chauvin sound a significant shift in the civil rights movement and the country at large. Today, artist, activist, and politician Jeremiah Ellison is here to help us make sense of this historic moment. As some of you may know, I spent the week of April 13th, 2021 (pre-Chauvin verdict) in a very tense Minneapolis. Motivating my visit was an intention to better understand the events and circumstances that brought the world’s focus upon this city—not from what I read online or saw streaming endlessly on cable news—but rather from a first-hand, experience-based perspective. In addition, my objective was to conduct meaningful, nuanced conversations with Minneapolis civic leaders who are grappling with the important issues that have recently dominated national news coverage. Issues that include police misconduct and public safety reform; the roots of civil unrest and the purpose of protest; and of course the role social activism has played in all of this. This conversation, the first in a series of Minneapolis-themed episodes that I will be releasing over the coming weeks, is one powerful result of that good faith inquiry. Representing Ward 5 on the Minneapolis City Council, Jeremiah sits at the vortex of the many complicated issues that concern his community, and from the start has been one of the leading and most prominent voices calling for the reimagination of public safety. On the one hand, Jeremiah is a very unlikely elected official. An artist at heart and painter by trade, he’s both a muralist and a comic book illustrator. He’s into Silver Surfer. And Batman. On the other hand, he is the son of former 6-term Congressman Keith Ellison. Currently Attorney General for the state of Minnesota, the Ellison elder was also in charge of the Chauvin prosecution. In other words, it’s fair to say that Jeremiah was born for the role he currently inhabits. My week in Minneapolis was extraordinary. There were so many experiences I will never forget. I learned much. I’m better for the trip. And my time with Jeremiah has much to do with that. I’m grateful that he took the time to share his truth and for his trust in my ability to share it. My only ask is that you welcome Jeremiah and his testimony with an open mind and an open heart. NDSC Criminal Justice Data Report

    NDSC Criminal Justice Data Report

This episode is a bit different but we decided this was too good to pass up. We aren't discussing a book today, rather we're going to cover an important report out of the USC Price School of Public Policy.

Given recent events, the findings of this report can help us understand why and how the dialogue between communities and law enforcement is so fraught. Perhaps the two stakeholders are thinking about public safety in very different ways. This project can help us understand both the conflict and where to go from here.

"The past decade has elevated the urgent need for police reform, brought to the forefront by high-profile police killings and movements like #BlackLivesMatter. To better understand conceptions of public safety and support the growing public interest in criminal justice reform, the USC Price Center for Social Innovation partnered with Microsoft and the USC Price Safe Communities Institute to launch the NDSC Criminal Justice Data Initiative in the spring of 2019."

Today, Aubrey Hicks (our ED) speaks to Gary Painter (Social Innovation) and Erroll Southers (Safe Communities Institute) about the impetus behind the collaboration, the process of understanding community needs, the impact they hope to see, and thoughts on the next stages of research.

Episode 218- Who's Looking Out For Us?

The Minnesota Legislature passed fourteen separate omnibus budget bills. It doesn't seem to matter what party the legislator is from. Almost all of them voted for this $55 billion travesty. The Republicans are bragging about Governor Walz giving up his emergency powers, but the cost to get that was huge. It should have been done a lot sooner and for less of a price. They passed the largest increase in K-12 funding in the last 15 years. 2.5% increase from the funding formula, which good luck figuring that one out. They are giving funding to specifically recruit teachers of color. The GOP caved on requiring vouchers for private schools.

tax cut... of which 85% was from not taxing the Payroll Protection loans. These should never have been taxed to begin with, but are not a tax cut. Between this and added unemployment benefits, Sen Carla Nelson (R- Rochester) believes the economy has seen a great boom! What about the people that have worked hard all the way through the pandemic? There's no cuts for those people. They also passed a public safety bill that strengthens criminals. The Democrats had to drop a proposal to remove certain types of traffic stops. Watch for that to come back. We also got "sign and release" warrants for low-level offenders that had missed a court appearance. Also... they passed California Cafe (emissions) standards. That will have a long list of local impacts. Thanks, guys. Way to hold the line.

We also discuss the latest battle of words between Rand Paul and Dr. Fauci. There are some real concerns in children and teens that take the vaccine, per the inventor of the RNA technology.
