    • The power of persistence and reaching out to peopleConsistently ask and connect with people through various platforms like Twitter and email for opportunities. Persistence pays off in building a career.

The power of persistence and the importance of reaching out to people, especially in the early stages of your career. Casey Neistat, a frequent guest on the GaryVee Audio Experience, shared his experience of building a fanbase and getting noticed in his industry. He mentioned that it started around 10 years ago when one of his videos went viral. Since then, he has been consistently approached by people through various platforms like Twitter and email. Casey emphasized that it's essential to ask as many times as possible and that there are unlimited opportunities to connect with people in today's digital world. He also mentioned that while email can still be effective, Twitter is a more powerful social network for reaching out to people randomly. Overall, the episode highlights the importance of being persistent and taking advantage of the opportunities that social media provides to connect with people and build a career.

    • Explore opportunities to build and showcase skills onlineLeverage digital platforms to build confidence, create content, and connect with potential employers. Take risks, build a network, and continually learn to boost self-assurance.

The opportunities to connect with people and showcase your skills to potential employers are vast in today's digital age. You don't need someone's permission to prove yourself – you can build, create, and showcase your abilities through various platforms. Confidence, on the other hand, can be a challenge to build. It may not come easily, but taking risks, putting yourself out there, building a strong network, and continually learning and improving can help boost your confidence. Remember, opportunities are abundant, and with hard work and determination, you can make things happen for yourself.

    • Creating something builds confidenceCreating something, whether it's a relationship, friendship, or physical object, provides comfort and a sense of accomplishment, helping to build confidence. Don't care what others think to boost self-assurance.

Confidence can be found in making something and not caring what others think. The speaker shared their personal experience of growing up as the "forgotten child" in a large family, which shaped their need to be noticed and confident. They suggest that creating something, whether it's a relationship, a friendship, or a physical object, can provide comfort and a sense of accomplishment. The speaker also shared that they are not afraid to fail and don't care what others think, which they believe is a key to confidence. They also mentioned that they were born with confidence but had the added advantage of positive reinforcement from their mother. However, they also experienced failure and felt small in their freshman year of high school, but still managed to walk out with a sense of entitlement to success. While not everyone may have had the same experiences as the speaker, they suggest that finding ways to create and not caring what others think are effective ways to build confidence.

    • Starting a tech company: A rare and challenging achievementPerseverance, ambition, and smart marketing are crucial for success in the tech industry, but achieving financial stability, social impact, and meaningful scale remains a rare and difficult feat for most companies.

Success in the tech industry, particularly in starting a technology company, is a rare and challenging achievement. Casey from the discussion shared his personal experience of feeling lost and late for class during his freshman year, encountering a senior and one of the popular girls in school. He also talked about his startup, Beam, and defined success as achieving financial stability, social impact, and meaningful scale. He acknowledged that only a few companies have achieved such success in the history of social networks, making it a rare and difficult feat. Despite some progress with Beam, Casey admitted that he has not yet considered it a success and looks forward to achieving it in the future. Additionally, Casey expressed admiration for Alan's marketing skills. Overall, the conversation highlights the importance of perseverance, ambition, and smart marketing in the tech industry.

    • Experience life in real-time with VeeamVeeam encourages authentic sharing of real-life moments, shifting the focus from curated versions of ourselves to genuine experiences, fostering deeper connections and understanding

Veeam, or Beam as it's colloquially known, is a unique video-sharing platform that aims to capture and share the tiny moments of life in real-time, without interrupting the experience. The founders appreciate the tiny successes they've had thus far and aim to promote understanding by sharing perspectives. They believe that this form of sharing allows individuals to see the world through each other's eyes, fostering a deeper connection with the community. However, social media platforms today often showcase curated versions of ourselves, leading to a PR-driven culture. The founders of Beam are trying to shift this dynamic by encouraging authentic sharing. They believe that by removing the scrutiny and control over the image of oneself, individuals can share their experiences as they truly are. A powerful example of this was demonstrated when a friend of the speaker, Shonduras, beamed his daughter's birth in real-time, allowing others to witness the moment and share in the experience. This authentic sharing fosters a deeper connection and understanding of the world around us.

    • Discovering Passion Through Unpleasant ExperiencesExperiencing new things, even unpleasant ones, can lead to discovering unexpected passions. Recognize potential in interests, even if they don't seem financially viable at first. Fearlessness in pursuing passions, like Neistat's, can be inspiring.

Finding your passion and career path doesn't always come from doing what you love, but rather from experiencing new things, even if they're unpleasant. The speaker shares his own experience of discovering his passion for entrepreneurship and filmmaking through working long hours in a seafood restaurant. He also emphasizes the importance of recognizing the potential in your interests, even if they don't seem financially viable at first. The speaker also touches on the growing industry of esports and the potential for individuals to make a living from their passions, even in seemingly niche areas. If the speaker could swap one quality with the interviewee, Casey Neistat, the speaker would choose to have Neistat's fearlessness in physical challenges. The speaker acknowledges that this might not be a fair comparison, as they are different people with different strengths and experiences.

    • Embracing New Experiences and Using Platforms for Positive ImpactExplore new experiences, embrace peer pressure for excitement, share valuable insights, and use platforms to reach a large audience for positive impact.

Having a little bit of adventure and free spirit in life can be intriguing and attractive, even for those who generally avoid risks. The speaker shared a past experience of jumping off a cliff due to peer pressure, which was out of character for him but left him with a sense of excitement. He also expressed admiration for others, like Gary, who appreciate the artistry and sophistication of things like wine. The speaker encouraged the audience to ask questions and share advice on how they could be better communicators, particularly on broad topics that could have a significant impact. He acknowledged the power of their platform to reach a large audience and emphasized the importance of sharing valuable insights. While the conversation was lighthearted and included humor, the underlying message was about embracing new experiences and using platforms to make a positive impact.

    • The Importance of Authenticity and Consistency in Building a Personal BrandStay true to yourself and message, consistently deliver value, embrace hard work and hustle, and stay curious to adapt to new trends and technologies.

Learning from the GaryVee audio experience episode is the importance of authenticity and consistency in building a personal brand. Gary emphasized that in today's digital world, people crave genuine connections and value transparency. He encouraged listeners to be true to themselves and their message, and to consistently deliver content that resonates with their audience. Another key takeaway is the power of hard work and hustle. Gary shared stories of his own experiences and emphasized the importance of putting in the work and never giving up. He encouraged listeners to stay focused on their goals and to keep pushing forward, even when faced with challenges or setbacks. Lastly, Gary emphasized the importance of staying up-to-date with trends and adapting to new technologies. He encouraged listeners to be curious and to constantly learn, in order to stay ahead of the curve and succeed in today's rapidly changing business landscape. Overall, the episode was a reminder that success requires authenticity, hard work, and a willingness to adapt to new trends and technologies. By staying true to themselves and their message, and by consistently delivering value to their audience, individuals and businesses can build strong personal brands and achieve their goals.

86: Are You burnt-out or Bored-out? with Kea Meyers Duggan

86: Are You burnt-out or Bored-out? with Kea Meyers Duggan
What is your body telling you these days? It's highly likely that you're burnt-out at work. OR maybe, it's simply that you're bored-out. This week's episode dives deep into the signs, and remedies, for those of you feeling burnt-out at work. IT's an important episode, because we want you to see these signs well before Kea saw hers. Your health, family, and friends will thank you.  This week Erin sits down with Kea Meyers Duggan - a life/career coach, and a professional speaker - to discuss her life, her struggles and her successes, in an episode that everyone can relate to. Erin starts out by asking about young Kea. She dives into what her childhood was like, and how it shaped her into who she is today. Kea remembers watching the 1984 Olympics with her dad, and him telling her, "You can do whatever you put your mind to." She talks how she necessarily understand that statement fully at the time. But later it became a guiding light for her...a way to find determination to do whatever she wanted to do. Erin asks Kea why she went into marketing. Kea explains she almost chose to pursue Marine Biology, and decided to follow advertising and marketing instead. But as she carried forward in her career, she couldn't help but question if she'd made the right choice. Her father stepped back in and suggested she start her own company, because she's be good at it plus she's also bad at being told what to do.  Kea's first entrepreneurial venture was a dog walking and pet sitting business. However, KEa realized that human interaction was key to her happiness (and while dogs are cute, they don't make for great conversations.) She decided to go back to corporate America while she decided on her next move. She decided to start a coaching business, but working a 9-5 job while also trying to run a business on the side can easily build to an unstable point. One day, while sitting at her desk typing an email, she thought she was having a stroke. Luckily, instead, it was her body giving her a big wake-up call - a massive anxiety attack.  Erin asks Kea what steps she took to try and reverse the situation. Kea said the first thing she did was to simply talk to a friend and tell them what had happened. The second, was to take a step back and think about her next move, how to handle the situation, and what she really wanted to do moving forward. Erin moves on to ask how people cans et up boundaries for themselves. Kea says to first check-in with yourself. What has you feeling so burned out and uncomfortable? Then, picture your ideal situation. What would it look like if everything was how you wanted it to be? They discuss how to take a breath and carve some time out for yourself. In summary? Just do it. There is always something else to do, so you have to take a stand and take that time when you need it. They end by explaining how you discern between being burned out vs. being bored-out. Burnout manifests itself physically; insomnia, body ailments like migraines, GI issues. Intense cynicism is also a major sign of being burnt out at work. Bored-out usually manifests itself through signs like listlessness, inability to sit still, being easily distracted. And the only remedy?
