Ukrainian forces bed in across the Dnipro & 2023 Magnitsky Prize winner Mykola Kuleba

    enNovember 17, 2023

    Podcast Summary

    • Price reduction in Mint Mobile and ongoing conflicts in UkraineMint Mobile lowers Unlimited plan price to $15/month amidst inflation, while Ukraine sees ongoing shelling and counter-offensives, with Ukrainian forces making advances and Mykola Kuleba rescuing kidnapped children

Despite inflation and long-term contracts, Mint Mobile is reducing the price of its Unlimited plan to $15 a month. Meanwhile, in Ukraine, the war continues with ongoing shelling and counter-offensives. Ukrainian forces have made some advances, but the focus of the main effort may be shifting to other areas. In the humanitarian front, Mykola Kuleba and his organization, Save Ukraine, are rescuing and rehabilitating children kidnapped by Russia. Ryan Reynolds also shared his experience of easy and rewarding gift-giving through 1800flowers.com's Celebrations Passport. Overall, the news covers ongoing conflicts, price reductions, and acts of bravery and resilience.

    • Ukrainian forces hold ground on eastern bank of Dnipro RiverDespite Russia's efforts, Ukrainian forces maintain their position on the eastern bank of the Dnipro River, with both sides unable to gain significant ground in the stalemated war. Russian air force remains active but no long-range bomber strikes for 50 days, while both sides sustain artillery fire.

The Ukrainian forces have managed to establish a bridgehead on the eastern bank of the Dnipro River, with an estimated force of 100 troops and vehicles. Russia is currently unable to push them back or inflict significant damage, as the Ukrainian forces are holding their ground. The ground conditions are unfavorable, making it difficult for both sides to advance or retreat easily. The Russian air force remains active, but there have been no strikes from long-range bombers in the last 50 days. Russia has started using its Airborne Early Warning aircraft to identify targets for ground-based air defense systems, increasing the risk for Russian aircraft. The ground war is currently stalemated, with neither side able to carry out decisive operations for the foreseeable future. Both sides are using artillery at a sustainable rate, with Ukraine having enough 155mm ammunition and Russia having enough 152mm ammunition. A large supply of artillery shells from North Korea to Russia, which was expected to help Russia, has not materialized as planned.

    • Russia's Industrial Struggles in the Ukraine ConflictThe conflict between Russia and Ukraine has exposed weaknesses in Russia's industrial sector, leading to inefficient production and a struggling military. Ukraine and its allies are capitalizing on these inefficiencies, pushing back the Russian Land Army and hindering Russia's ability to replenish lost equipment.

The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has revealed significant issues with the quality of Russian munitions and the efficiency of their industrial base. The poor quality of some Russian shells has led to barrels splitting and bursting, causing casualties and damage. Meanwhile, the mobilization of young men for the war and the strain on manufacturing facilities have hindered Russia's ability to replenish lost equipment. Western officials are confident that funding packages for Ukraine will be approved, but the industrial side of the war is expected to become a major focus. Russia's significant industrial base is not currently operating efficiently, and the Russian Land Army, a major threat to the West, has been pushed back 20 to 30 years. While both sides face challenges, the inefficiencies in Russia's industrial sector give an advantage to Ukraine and its external supporters. The use of drones is an isolated area of Russian industrial innovation, but overall, Russia is not making significant progress industrially.

    • Tensions between Countries and Within the EUFinland closes border crossings with Russia over migrant concerns, Slovakia's truckers blockade main crossing with Ukraine, Russia suppresses anti-war voices, and a leading Western journalist receives undisclosed payments from Putin-linked oligarch's companies. These actions reflect ongoing geopolitical tensions and conflicts.

There are ongoing tensions between various countries, particularly those involving Russia and NATO, as well as within the EU. Finland has accused Russia of trying to destabilize the country by allowing migrants to cross its border without proper documentation. In response, Finland will close four of its eight eastern border crossings with Russia. Slovakia's truckers plan to blockade the country's main crossing with Ukraine to support Polish calls for restrictions on Ukrainian trucks entering the EU. In Russia, there have been reports of the suppression of anti-war voices and the release of pro-war prisoners, such as the convicted organizer of the murder of journalist Anna Politkovskaya. Additionally, a leading Western journalist was revealed to have received large undisclosed offshore payments from companies linked to an oligarch close to Putin. These developments highlight the complex and evolving geopolitical landscape, with tensions and conflicts arising from various sources.

    • Russian funding for German journalist sparks controversyRussian funding of individuals, like German filmmaker Hubert Seippel, and reports of Ukrainian military involvement in Nord Stream pipeline bombings, underscore the importance of transparency and accountability in relationships between foreign powers and journalists/academics to maintain impartiality and prevent conflicts of interest.

The relationship between individuals, particularly journalists and academics, and foreign powers, specifically Russia, is a complex and contentious issue. The case of award-winning filmmaker and author Hubert Seippel, who received funding from a Russian oligarch for his book on Putin, has sparked controversy and anger in Germany. However, it's not an isolated incident, as there have been reports of similar occurrences across Europe. Meanwhile, a recent Washington Post investigation revealed that a Ukrainian military officer, Roman Chavinsky, played a central role in the bombing of Nord Stream natural gas pipelines last year, providing the most direct evidence to date of Ukrainian involvement in the controversial act. The complex dynamics and internal rivalries within the Ukrainian government add to the intrigue, with tensions between the intelligence and military establishment and the political leadership potentially playing a role. These incidents highlight the need for transparency and accountability in such relationships to ensure impartiality and prevent potential conflicts of interest.

    • Hungary's Relationship with Ukraine and EUHungary maintains business ties with Russia for energy security, condemns Russia's aggression towards Ukraine, but hesitates to support EU membership due to minority concerns, allowing NATO allies to transport weapons through its border with Ukraine, but against sending weapons directly to Ukraine.

Hungary's relationship with Ukraine and its stance towards the European Union is complex and contradictory. Despite Hungarians' strong dislike for Russia and its past occupation, Hungary maintains business ties with Russia for energy security reasons. Hungary's leaders condemn Russia's aggression towards Ukraine but are hesitant to support the country's EU membership due to concerns over Ukrainian treatment of Hungarian minorities. The situation raises more questions than answers, particularly regarding Hungary's future decision on whether to allow Ukraine to start official EU session talks. Additionally, Hungary is against sending weapons directly to Ukraine but has allowed other NATO countries to transport weapons through its border with Ukraine. This intricate web of alliances and tensions highlights the complexity of international relations and the challenges of navigating geopolitical conflicts.

    • Hungary's Contradictory Stance on Weapons to UkraineHungary allows weapons to pass through, but publicly opposes it due to moral concerns and fear of old Soviet kit falling into Ukrainian hands. Save Ukraine helps over 100,000 children and women since the invasion.

Hungary is allowing weapons to pass through its territory to Ukraine, despite maintaining a public stance against it. Hungarian Defense Minister acknowledged the importance of artillery in modern warfare and Hungary's military upgrade, but expressed concerns about their old Soviet legacy kit potentially ending up in Ukraine. The Hungarian government has a moral standpoint against any weapon leaving Hungary, no matter how insignificant, as they view it as an escalation. Meanwhile, Mikola Kuleba, a guest on the show, discussed his work with Save Ukraine, an organization focused on evacuating children from combat zones and providing them with emergency assistance and long-term support in recovery centers. The organization has helped over 100,000 children and women since the full-scale invasion began.

    • Children Displaced by Ukraine Conflict Forced into Russian Reeducation CampsOver 1.5 million children affected by Ukraine conflict, 200+ rescued, human rights crisis, complex process, potential genocide

Since the conflict in Ukraine in 2014, over 1.5 million children have been displaced or reside in occupied territories or Russia, with potentially dozens of thousands unaccompanied and whose parents have been killed, imprisoned, or gone missing. The Red Cross and UN are urged to provide information about these children's whereabouts as they are being systematically reeducated in Russian facilities and camps, where they are forced to abandon their Ukrainian identity and adopt Russian culture. Activist Dom, who has received the Magnitsky Award for human rights work, has rescued over 200 children from such situations, but the process is risky and complex, involving multiple border crossings and lengthy interrogations of guardians. The children often return with false beliefs about Ukraine, propagated by their Russian handlers. The situation is a human rights crisis and Maria Vobobilova, who holds information about these children, is accused of being complicit in this genocide.

    • Thousands of Ukrainian children forcibly deported and indoctrinated by Russian authoritiesUkrainian children are being stripped of their identity and instilled with hatred towards their home country, potentially leading to long-term psychological damage and a humanitarian crisis

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has led to the forcible deportation and indoctrination of thousands of Ukrainian children by Russian authorities. This is not only a humanitarian crisis but also a potential war crime and genocide, as these children are being stripped of their Ukrainian identity and instilled with hatred towards their home country. Estimates suggest that tens of thousands of children have been affected, and the long-term psychological damage is yet to be fully understood. The international community, including the International Criminal Court, is working to document and address this issue. The process of de-indoctrination and repairing the damage will be a long and complex one, involving mental health support and efforts to help these children reconnect with their Ukrainian identity.

    • Forcible transfer of Ukrainian children to Russian territories is a form of genocideThousands of Ukrainian children have been forcibly transferred to Russian territories and given Russian citizenship, causing harm and trauma. Save Ukraine is working to return these children and help them heal and reintegrate.

The forcible transfer of Ukrainian children to Russian territories and camps is a form of genocide, as described by Nicola in this discussion. Thousands of children have been sent against their will, with families facing punishment if they refused. Many of these children were then placed in Russian families and given Russian citizenship. This is a devastating crime against humanity, and Save Ukraine is working to return these children and help them recover and integrate back into Ukrainian society. The Russian mill blogger Telegram channel Ribar, which has been cited as less inaccurate than others, has even received a state honor from Putin. It's important for us to raise awareness of this issue and condemn these actions. If you'd like to learn more or support the cause, visit saveukraineua.org.

    • Russia honors pro-Kremlin blogger, debates Ukraine situationRussia rewards pro-Russian blogger, while intelligence sources differ on Ukraine's stability, with some warning of instability and the need for continued Western support.

The Kremlin is continuing its efforts to control information and co-opt influencers, as seen in the award given to a Russian blogger known for pro-Russian views. Meanwhile, there are differing perspectives on the situation in Ukraine among various intelligence sources, with some seeing a stalemate and others warning of instability and the need for continued Western support. The Institute for the Study of War argues that the current balance in the military sphere is not stable and could tip in either direction with decisions made in the West. It's important to note that interpretations of intelligence can be influenced by political narratives, and this can impact calls for action or inaction in response to geopolitical events.

    • Western military support crucial for Ukraine's defense against RussiaWithout Western military aid, Ukraine would struggle to counter Russian advances, leading to potential defeat and devastation of Ukrainian cities.

The withdrawal of Western military support from Ukraine would significantly weaken its defensive capabilities and potentially lead to a Russian victory in the ongoing conflict. The Western-provided anti-tank and artillery systems have been crucial in Ukraine's efforts to stop Russian mechanized advances and hold the current lines. The fear of Ukrainian counter-battery fire has forced the Russians to pull back their guns, limiting their ability to conduct extended volleys. Without these capabilities, Ukraine would struggle to offset the losses and would likely face renewed large-scale mechanized offensives with good prospects for success. The front lines would cease to be static, and Russian forces could devastate Ukrainian cities from the air. The limitations in the Western defense industrial base mean that shortages in artillery and ground-based precision systems will not be rapidly overcome. Releasing Western tanks and increasing air power could significantly improve Ukraine's ability to conduct mechanized maneuver and restore maneuver to the battlefield on its own terms. The war in Ukraine is not a stable or permanent reality, and ending military support now would enable Russia to win the war on the battlefield, with catastrophic consequences for Ukraine, NATO, and the United States.

January 20th, 2023. Russia Claims to Have Arrested an American Spy.
It’s January 20th. You’re listening to the President’s Daily Brief. Your morning intel starts now. ------ A good day to you, ladies and gentlemen. I’ve got four briefs for you this morning that are shaping America — and the world. First, we’ve got some spies to talk about. One that was in Ukraine, and another just arrested in Russia. I’ve got details on both. Second, we’re off to Africa this morning to Timbuktu. And I mean the actual city of Timbuktu, located in the African country of Mali. The Russians are there, up to some sort of funny business. We’ll talk about it. Third, an update on America’s border wars. But this one has nothing to do with illegal drugs or illegal migrants. No, this one has to do with illegal eggs. Finally, a listener question about the Joe Biden Intel Scandal. Some experts are saying that Mr. Biden could have declassified some of those Top Secret documents sitting in his garage and library. I’ll explain why the answer to that is no, he did not have that authority. Later, we close out the podcast with the announcement of a new segment. I’m calling it — Bryan is Wrong. And I think you’ll like it — even if my ego doesn’t. ----- Please remember to subscribe if you enjoyed this episode of the President's Daily Brief.
