Plotinus lived in a time in which the Army of Rome ruled in secret. Society was in chaos and desperation for moral order was becoming insurmountable. His theories led to the clear understanding of the tripartite of the soul. So as god gave the world a son Plotinus gave society some serious perspective on how to understand and appreciate the gifts of god. He relied heavily on the thought of Plato but he discusses a variety of thinker. This is the first section of Plotinus's book Enneads or The Dialectic in English. I was reading Bertrand Russell's autobiography aloud for Dee and I when he mentioned this poem. Dee said she had to learn it in French as a child. I had never encountered it so as philosopher I felt a need to get acquainted (okay Dee demanded I stop and read it as well). So I did a cold read with my soul, my own authenticity as the character (playing ones self! I know leet acting right). All that being said I submit this to you as my birthday present to myself and everyone for my birthday.
