Buck the System! An Alt Ed Admin Reflects on How to Reform Schools

Buck the System! An Alt Ed Admin Reflects on How to Reform Schools

    About Tammy Glupker

Tammy is a 25-year veteran of non-traditional education experiences and offers a unique perspective. She recently retired from being the principal of Renaissance High School in Plainwell, MI. There she also ecame the director of adult and community education. Tammy led Renaissance from a staff of 4 and student body of about 50 to a staff of 13 and a student body of about 200 in its heyday.

Under her leadership, Renaissance was named School of the Year, awarded Best Program Component for their work in becoming Trauma Informed and she was named Educator of the Year. In the COVID craziness of the 20/21 school year, Tammy was assigned the leadership of her district's virtual learning elementary which consisted of 6 educators for more than 600 students. Tammy left the office in the 22/23 school year to try yet another non-traditional role within public education when she went on the road in what she describes as a self-created assignment to recover and keep students engaged who had lagging school connections due to the pandemic.

She hit the big reset button in June of 2023 when she retired. Tammy currently serves on the board of the Michigan Alternative Education Organization and helps to prepare and support prospective educators while she looks for ways to become a pioneer of education reform.
