Charlotte Restauranteur Jamie Brown on Tackling Anxiety, Panic Attacks, and Leaky Gut Without Medication

We were incredibly inspired after today’s interview! Jamie Brown is a lovely Charlotte local who co-owns several popular restaurants in town. She and her husband have 3 kids, they both have their MBAs, and they own Haberdish, Crepe Cellar, Growler’s Pourhouse, Reigning Doughnuts, and Supper.Land, which is opening soon. In the midst of their food and beverage success, Jamie started noticing signs of a possible autoimmune disease in the form of anxiety and debilitating panic attacks. She radically changed her diet, took a functional medicine approach, and was willing to do whatever was needed to stop the anxiety from affecting her life in such a negative way.

Jamie provides insight about her experience of chasing dreams alongside her husband, and what it is like to form a team of employees and build a community. She poured out her heart when she shared about the fear she experienced due to panic attacks. Through dedication to a strict elimination diet, a visit to the Cleveland Clinic, and a whole lot of perseverance, she got to the root cause, is reversing leaky gut and the inevitable onset of an autoimmune disease. She tells us about the AIP diet, what it was like to quit sugar, and tips about how to identify food triggers when it comes to anxiety. Real food is her medicine, and she has found JOY again through this healing process! This episode is enlightening and encouraging! We are so thankful to Jamie for being vulnerable with us, and we know that her story can help others!

Information and FAQs about Covid-19, Coronavirus with Dr. Ana Maria Temple

Information and FAQs about Covid-19, Coronavirus with Dr. Ana Maria Temple

This is a special episode of the Well + Nourished podcast to discuss Covid-19/coronavirus. Today we are welcoming Dr. Ana Maria Temple back to discuss this virus and it’s impact on our world. Currently, it is March 19th, 2020, and we are in a phase of social distancing and quarantine. Schools are cancelled for now, businesses are closing temporarily, and the anxiety is high. This is a very serious time, and we want to get as much information out to you as possible! Dr. Temple is a holistic pediatrician and leader in the functional medical community. She has been researching coronavirus nonstop, has appeared on the news many times already, and is trying to get as many facts out there as possible. There has been some panic and misinformation in the mainstream media, and people have (of course) felt extreme fear around this. Our goal with this episode is to give you truth and answers to questions in the midst of a scary time.

Dr. Temple’s instagram posts have been extremely helpful as well. She has shared a wealth of information there, including lots of supplement and healthy food information.

Where you can find Dr. Temple:

    Instagram: @dranamariatemple

    Her Practice: Integrative Health Carolinas

    Her Blog: Family Wellness Tips

Here are the non-profits that we mentioned during the show, who are helping supply meals to families who typically rely on breakfasts and lunches provided by the public school system:

(These are the branches local to the Charlotte area, but Second Harvest Food Bank has locations around the country. You can also check with your local public school, and churches, to see how you can help).

Second Harvest Metrolina - you can donate money online to help pay for a week or more of meals for a family!

    Bags of Hope

*One question we did not get to during the episode is whether or not the change of seasons, and hot weather, could help reduce the spread of coronavirus. Dr. Temple said that if it was going to behave like influenza, it would seem like the numbers would go down as the temperatures increase outside. However, so far it is behaving differently than the flu, so we cannot say for sure.

Addiction to Redemption with Lindsay’s Brother, Patrick Link

Addiction to Redemption with Lindsay’s Brother, Patrick Link

Today on the Well + Nourished podcast, we were joined by Lindsay’s brother, Patrick Link. His story of addiction to redemption is a powerful one. Patrick has experienced the struggle and hardships that come along with years of drug abuse and dealing, but he is now clean and has been working in the rehab ministry that helped him turn his life around. He has spoken at high schools, colleges, and in churches. His story is impactful and we hope that his sharing can help families who are dealing with addiction. Patrick also shares some advice for parents who want to be more informed as they raise their kids in a world where alcohol and drugs are powerful strongholds on so many. The verse that helped him tremendously during his journey to health was Romans 8:18, which says “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”

This episode is heavy, and not appropriate for younger ears. Please keep that in mind by either listening without your young children around, or maybe wearing headphones.

We would truly appreciate your feedback after this episode. To help us, you could rate, review, and subscribe. You can also email Ashley (wonderandwear@gmail.com) or Lindsay (sevenlayercharlotte@gmail.com).
