Ep 137 | Batman Beyond: "Meltdown"

Ep 137 | Batman Beyond: "Meltdown"
It's a cold day in Gotham as the Boob Tube Boys arrive just in time to see a sexy sultry voiced doctor show up and do some quasi-necromancy to give noted Batman villain Mr. Freeze a new lease on life!

The BTBs show up to watch a show that all three thought was beneath them when it came out in the late 90s. Also there's mention of a Batman villain called Dr. Phosphorus? It turns out he was actually the inspiration for this show's big bad- Blight. A glowy skeleton man whose name is far less interesting than 'Dr. Phosphorus'

Ep 136 | True Detective: "Night Country: Part 2"

Ep 136 | True Detective: "Night Country: Part 2"
The BTBs are back to talk more about True Detective: Night Country, a show about Jodie Foster yelling at her loved ones, Kali Reis whooping ass, and John Hawkes having a cool face

The fellas last left their Alaskan character friends at the outset of a grotesque crime scene, but things are about to get even creepier. Brian, Spencer, and Van talk about fun character interactions, the intermingling of ambitious storylines, and hanging out with ghosts. Spencer steers the podcast in a very different direction with his next show choice

Ep 135 | True Detective: "Night Country: Part 1"

Ep 135 | True Detective: "Night Country: Part 1"
The frozen expanse of the podcasting universe holds many secrets, but don't worry, the Boob Tube Boys are here to guide you across the icy ground. It's time to talk True Detective: Night Country, the latest installment in HBO's long-running anthology series!

Jodie Foster and Kali Reis are detectives tasked with solving an impossible and terrifying mystery in Alaska's dark season, and they might even be up against forces bigger than they imagine. Brian picked this one due to his fondness for True Detective's landmark first season, but will Issa Lopez's iteration hold up? Spencer offers his thoughts as a longtime fan, while Van experiences the show's universe for the first time

Ep 134 | Beef: "The Rapture of Being Alive"

Ep 134 | Beef: "The Rapture of Being Alive"
Where's the Beef? Right here you dumb old lady!

That's right the Boob Tube Boys have returned to the spiteful world of Netflix' Beef where Steven Yeun as Danny pees all over the place and Ali Wong as Amy plots her revenge. We're picking back up right where we left off last week and despite being given the opportunity to take the high road Amy has chosen instead... for vengeance

The tubers marvel at some of the background jokes in the show as well as all of the actor's performances. They take a moment to appreciate the truly human stories being told, and of course finish off the episode discussing their favorite meats, which may surprise you

Ep 133 | Beef: "The Birds Don't Sing, They Screech in Pain"

Ep 133 | Beef: "The Birds Don't Sing, They Screech in Pain"
It has been a hot minute since the Boob Tube Boys watched a show that wasn't hot garbage, so no matter what the critically acclaimed 2023 first season of Netflix' Beef should be a change of pace for the fellas

The show isn't about choice cuts and it's not about a family who own and operate a small town meat packing plant but the son doesn't want to follow in the father's footsteps and take over the plant, instead choosing a career in optometry while the matriarch of the family opines for better times and openly despises her husband after he cheated on her with another meat family's daughter whose name is like Sally Rey or Deborah Anne Parsons or whatever. It's not about that at all!

Instead it's about a 'beef' between two motorists who are having a really tough time in life, and believe it or not that's an excellent topic for a television show

Ep 132 | Touched by an Angel: "Pandora's Box"

Ep 132 | Touched by an Angel: "Pandora's Box"
This is going to be a good one, folks. And it doesn’t even have a magician!

You see this time in the cinematic universe of Touched by an Angel your everyday Y2K family seems to be all smiles and love, but deep inside something sinister is brewing. One night, daughter Evan Rachel Wood decides to climb on her state-of-the-art computing device and do some research about Hawaii so that she could finish her school report. But unfortunately for the Radcliffe family she’s not shown the sandy beaches and wonderful people of our 50th state…

This leads to a chain reaction of events where father Charlie (played by Harvey Birdman himself Gary Cole) gets fired from his job for looking at porn, his wife declares the Eiffel Tower is wonderful, and their youngest daughter says something weird about bunnies landing on cabbage when they are born. But perhaps most sinister of all (not perhaps, definitely the most sinister), Evan Rachel Wood is then targeted by a pedophile

I’m not joking when I say that this is one of the best, so you don’t wanna miss this episode!

Ep 131 | Touched by an Angel: "Angel of Death"

Ep 131 | Touched by an Angel: "Angel of Death"
Do you believe in magic? Have you come here merely to hear the Boob Tube Boys DIE?! Well you're in for a treat as the fellas take a dive into the 1990s Christian television show Touched by an Angel, a program in which several benevolent angels kind of screw around and occasionally yell at a man with serious mental problems

That man is noted actual actor and religious weirdo Corbin Bernsen playing a nutso magician named Eric Weiss, or not really, but whatever... you'll see. The magician must try to overcome guilt brought upon by his failure to 'save' his younger brother Petey from a deadly refridgerator attack when they were kids, so Monica, Tess, and new angel Callisto from Xena: Warrior Princess are here to help him along the way

Ep 130 | The Jetsons: "Millionaire Astro"

Ep 130 | The Jetsons: "Millionaire Astro"
The BTBs are relieved to be near the end of their Hanna Barbera run, but they still have plenty more to say about The Jetsons. This week, a lawyer turns up at the Jetson home asserting that Astro (the family dog) has a secret past under a much cooler name

Brian, Spencer, and Van discuss what The Jetsons believes court systems will be like in the 2060s, why Astro is among the least appealing cartoon animals in history, and the dangers of conveyor belts. Later on, the guys talk about the most popular TV of 2023 and Van outlines Spencer's next hosting duties

Ep 129 | The Jetsons: "A Visit from Grandpa"

Ep 129 | The Jetsons: "A Visit from Grandpa"
The holidays are over, which means Boob Tube Hot Potato is back! Spencer tasked Van with covering The Flintstones a few weeks back, and now he's decided Brian's should lead the '60s Hanna Barbera discussion, so it's time for The Jetsons whether anyone likes it or not!

The Jetson family hosts their 110 year-old grandfather/great-grandfather thinking it will be a relaxing visit, but ol' Montague has other plans. Is the ancient scoundrel involved in two romantic entanglements at the same time, or will he be arrested before any of that matters? The BTBs have plenty to say about this particularly wild senior, forgotten Hanna Barbera characters, and a whole lot more!

Ep 128 | Father Knows Best: "The Angel's Sweater"

Ep 128 | Father Knows Best: "The Angel's Sweater"
For their final holiday episode of 2023 the Boob Tube Boys are rocketing way back in time to the 1950s where the wassail is thick and no ones pipes could ever burst. Well maybe that last one isn't accurate, because just that happens at the Anderson household and wouldn't you know it, that old spinster Aunt Neva is in town so she can't even take a warm bath!

The boys discuss how young wrecking ball Kathy really doesn't get along with Aunt Neva since the older woman is a mean old hag (Father Knows Best's words, not ours), and they wonder how any of this familial drama could possibly be resolved. Enter an immigrant! That's right Mr. Fix-It arrives just in time to repair a leaky pipe and possibly tell Kathy a weird parable that just might set things right

So grab a fistful of tinsel and check out this Christmas-tastic episode of the BTBs!

Ep 127 | Everybody Loves Raymond: "Christmas Gift"

Ep 127 | Everybody Loves Raymond: "Christmas Gift"
Spencer takes us all on a trip back to the Barone household as the Tubers cover a special Christmas themed episode of Everybody Loves Raymond. You're not going to believe this, but everyone in the show is a complete jerk!

Ray wants to go golfing and rather than just simply talk to his wife about it, he's got a whole malicious plan laid out involving his Christmas gift to her. Robert is real big, however, and that throws a giant wrench into the whole plan (not really, I just wanted to talk about how big Robert is). There's some good ol' fashioned marital hate in this episode so leave it to the BTBs to try and make you smile rather than fall into a sad, sad holiday slump like this mean show wants

Ep 126 | Bones: "The Goop on the Girl"

Ep 126 | Bones: "The Goop on the Girl"
The weather outside may be frightful, but the Boob Tube Boys are so delightful! It's the holiday season again, which means the Tubers are picking seasonal episodes of shows they previously covered. Unable to restrain himself, Brian leads things off with a truly bonkers episode of Bones for the second year in a row

Santas are not safe in the Bones universe, a truth "The Goop on the Girl" doubles down on by blowing one up in the cold open. Was this Santa a terrorist, or was he coerced by a more sinister villain? Will Bones go to El Salvador for Christmas, or will she listen to her cousin (a guest-starring Zooey Deschanel) endlessly repeat Benjamin Franklin quotes? What's that goop doing on that girl? Brian, Spencer, and Van answer these questions and more as they struggle to hide their burgeoning affection for this silly crime procedural

Ep 125 | The Flintstones: "A Haunted House is Not a Home"

Ep 125 | The Flintstones: "A Haunted House is Not a Home"
The BTBs hoped their second trip to Bedrock would be more entertaining than their first, and while they will agree it's better... that's not exactly high praise. This time around Fred's rich uncle has died and is leaving his estate to the rectangular caveman. There's only one catch- Fred must stay an evening in a haunted mansion!

Tune in to listen to all the homo-erotic caveman talk that you could possible handle!

    Ep 124 | The Flintstones: "The Drive-In"

    Ep 124 | The Flintstones: "The Drive-In"
The BTBs are taking a trip back into the stone age as they cover the very well known show from the 1960s which is about cave people and dinosaurs being used as appliances. In today's episode the guys are covering the season one episode "The Drive-In," in which Fred and Barney, aka the decision making MEN of the show, decide to up and quit their jobs to open a drive-in restaurant. They also don't tell their wives about this major decision

There's misogny, a song that takes up a significant amount of the show's runtime, a bunch of "bonk" noises, and a host of dinosaurs being used in novel ways so that means this show has to be good, right? Guess you'll have to tune in to find out!

The Office Week: "Dwight K. Schrute, (Acting) Manager"

The Office Week: "Dwight K. Schrute, (Acting) Manager"
The Boob Tube Boys bring The Office week to a close by looking at one of the first episodes after Steve Carell's departure. Dwight thinks he's in prime position to become manager, but a terrifying mishap brings his candidacy into question

Spencer talks about seeing this episode for the first time, while Van and Brian offer a reappraisal years removed from their disappointment in the show's final couple seasons. What are all these characters doing years later in the series' run? How do Erin and Gabe work as new additions to an established cast? This is a podcast that asks all the burning questions

    The Office Week: "Dinner Party"

    The Office Week: "Dinner Party"
The Office week continues for the Boob Tube Boys with "Dinner Party," a season four episode that ranks among the funniest (and most cringe-inducing) in the series. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll smash ice cream into the side of your partner's car

Van takes the reins to tell the story of how the writers, cast, and crew of The Office came up with "Dinner Party" and executed it around a writers' strike. Brian and Spencer remember their first reactions to this episode and explain why it holds up for them all these years later. You can practically feel how relieved everyone is not to be talking about Kirk Cameron any more. But this isn't all! Check the feed tomorrow as Office week concludes with season seven's "Dwight K. Schrute, (Acting) Manager"!

    The Office Week: "Casino Night"

    The Office Week: "Casino Night"
The Boob Tube Boys' slate of Office week episodes kicks off with "Casino Night," the season two finale that left Jim and Pam's status in limbo, Michael in a rare romantic position, and Creed winning big. Don't let Toby listen, because this one might get explicit

Brian explains why he chose this episode for Office week, while Van and Spencer recount their memories watching it the first time. The BTBs talk about where The Office was headed when this episode aired, which scenes made the biggest impact, and which characters shone brightest. Get right back here tomorrow, because Office week continues with the season four classic "Dinner Party"!

    The Office Week: Show Overview

    The Office Week: Show Overview
It's Thanksgiving week, which means the Boob Tube Boys get a brief reprieve from the usual barrage of burping sitcom dads and giant perms from the past. Van, Spencer, and Brian cover a show they actually know and enjoy each November, and 2023's selection is the American version of The Office!

The Tubers discuss The Office's port from the U.K. to America, how Steve Carell tweaked his character, casting choices, and plenty more show history. Find out how the BTBs first got into The Office, how they think it has aged, and what characters or moments remain memorable to them all these years later. Stick around until the end to learn which three Office episodes will get the special Tube treatment later this week!

Ep 123 | Growing Pains: "In Carol We Trust"

Ep 123 | Growing Pains: "In Carol We Trust"
The boys return to the very milquetoast 1980s and the hit show Growing Pains featuring Kirk Cameron. The man himself has now found God and is doing his best to ostracize everyone around him, but how will that effect his performance? The good news is this isn’t even a Mike-centric episode so Cameron’s smug face isn’t seen quite as much

It is however a Matthew Perry-centric episode (RIP) so buckle up and see what the nine and a half fingered star looks like in his younger years, where he already looks like a grizzled old man. You see Carol bumps into the future Chandler in the library and despite her being a child in high school and him being an adult in college, she seduces him with talk of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Hilarity ensues when the family gets home early so Carol has to hide Mr. The Whole Nine Yards!

    Sour balls!

Ep 122 | Growing Pains: "Thank God It's Friday"

Ep 122 | Growing Pains: "Thank God It's Friday"
The boys want to take a nice look back to the fabulous 80s and what better way to see what life was like for the average American at the time than to check out the Kirk Cameron-led Growing Pains? The show features not only Cameron but also the VERY charming Alan Thicke, plus a character named Boner!

Not all is well for the Seavers, however, as young Mike (Kirk Cameron) somehow finds himself at a cool kid party where everyone is doing cocaine in the bathroom. Naturally Mike doesn't want to do anything cool or fun, so he freaks out and ruins Boner's chances of getting laid. There's even a "don't do drugs" PSA at the end
