    A Brief History of Barbie

    A Brief History of Barbie
In this bonus episode we’re telling you our sometimes troubling childhood relationship with dolls and giving you a brief history of the doll of all dolls— Barbie. from her German Lilli doll roots to her status as a global icon, Barbie has come a long way since she was created by Ruth Handler in 1959 and she has had a lasting and divisive impact on popular culture.

From being named after the creator’s own daughter, Barbara, to getting her own boyfriend named after the creator’s son, Kenneth, in 1961. Suing Cindy, Suing Bratz. Malibu Stacy, Robert the Doll, what happened to Midge’s baby? Where’s Alan? Is there an Adam or was he just a torso in a toy box?

With Barbiecore on the rise and the release of the trailer for the soon to be Greta Gerwig summer blockbuster, Barbie's legacy remains strong. After all, she's more than just a doll – she's an idea, a symbol, an astronaut, an Olympian, she’s been president— she forever retains a perfect arch with her perfect plastic feet, she’s a blank slate, an icon— she’s everything.

Real Life Yellowjackets Part 2: Wilderness Mysteries

Real Life Yellowjackets Part 2: Wilderness Mysteries
“Opinion is the wilderness between knowledge and ignorance,” Plato said that, and in season 1 of Yellowjackets, Misty Quigley the team manager andsort of social outcast says it as well, to a mean girl who is prank calling her… but what happens when the mean girl on the phone isn’t a person anymore, but a place?
From mystical vortexes, Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Korovina Hiking Incident, The Bermuda Triangle, Dyatlov Pass, Roanoke and the occasional bout of wilderness hysteria,
In this episode we’re going back into the wild but we’re not really talking about survival this time we’re talking about when that survival is disrupted by something even stronger: imagination, mystery, longing.

    Woodstock 1999

    Woodstock 1999
Before there was Fyre Festival there was Woodstock 99. The festival took place from July 23-25, 1999 in Rome, New York. Though it was intended to be a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the original Woodstock festival, it ended up being anything but. It turned out to be the hottest weekend of the year, with temperatures reaching over 100 degrees.

The festival grounds were designed to hold 50,000 people, but over 200,000 showed up. There were long lines for water and bathrooms, and the prices for food and merchandise were sky-high. And to make matters worse, there were reports of sexual assault and harassment throughout the weekend- in this episode we examine Woodstock ‘99 what went right, what went Korn, and what went wrong.

    Lorena Bobbit
On June 23 1993, after enduring years of physical and emotional abuse, Lorena Bobbitt infamously cut off the p*nis of her sleeping husband, John Wayne Bobbit. The case instantly becomes content for the 24 news cycle and a joke for late night comedians but the backstory is much more sinister. In this episode, we will discuss how Lorena was a victim of domestic abuse during a time when there were no laws and few systems in place to protect or help women stuck in dangerous relationships. We will also examine the trials of John and Lorena, gender bias in the media and the court room, domestic violence and the difficulty of leaving abusive situations.
