    How to Cultivate Optimism

    How to Cultivate Optimism

How do we increase the likelihood of our personal success?

It's about cultivating the habit of being optimistic, and in the process creating realistic goals and taking positive action.

Optimistic people have a solution for every problem.

Conversely, pessimistic people have a problem for every solution.

Optimistic people are creative, they possess problem-solving skills, and see the world as 'us' and not 'them'. This group of people experience less stress and usually enjoy better health because of it.

They are operating from their locus of control, and this self-belief is a great motivating force that fuels the conviction that they will triumph in face of challenges and difficulties.

Remember the message in the book, The Little Engine that Could? It goes: "I think I can! I think I can!"....and yes, it's a great reminder that our mindset matters.

The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me?

    Meet Poli from Shyne Wellness

The universe brings people into our path for certain reasons, and this is the case when my daughter and I met Poli and her daughter at a business breakfast in Melbourne.

There were hundreds of people at this breakfast and we were on the escalator behnd Poli and her daughter, admiring them, when what seems quite serendipitously, we end up sitting next to one another.

A conversation was started, and here we are a few months later when I'm back in Melbourne and Poli meet up for coffee and take the opportunity to record this podcast.

Poli Zoungas is wellness counsellor and she transforms and improves peoples lives, by helping to navigate personal journeys that cover human behaviour beginning from old spiritual and philosophical teachings to modern day psychology, neuroscience and contemporary teachings.

    What Are Your Agreements?

    What Are Your Agreements?

A favourite book by Don Miguel Ruiz titled the Four Agreements reveals he source of self-limiting beliefs. It’s a book about the four principles for living a meaningful life

This powerful and impactful book offers a code of conduct that can transform your life to experience freedom, happiness and love.

There are thousands of agreements we make in our lifetime, with ourselves, with other people, with our higher power, with society, with our family and partners, in our business, in our external relationships.

The most important agreements are the ones that you make with yourself. The ones that inform what it is you will stand for, who you are, what your feel, what you believe and how you behave.

Fear based agreements will keep you playing small and feeling stuck.

Agreements that are born from love, will make everything possible. Tune in now.

    The Sum of Your Thoughts

    The Sum of Your Thoughts

Sometimes the stories swirling around your mind take momentum and hijack your thinking. You know how the story goes.

Something external to you has occurred and it is the trigger for negative self-talk, or feelings of self-righteousness, and before you know it both lack and insecurity creep in, and you will find all the reasons and biases to support your thinking. The lens from which you view life, has lost it’s rose coloured hue.

Your executive brain can no longer be relied upon to make good decisions. It’s in these moments that your life’s regrets may happen. This is when reactions occur instead of responses. You might find yourself feeling as though your in a fight or flight response.

The question is how to bring back equilibrium. How do you lower the anxiety that has just occurred and elevate your executive thinking, and thereby mitigating the risk of embarrassing yourself and others, or from diving into a negative downward spiral? Tune in to hear this podcast.

How To Get Out Of Your Own Way

How To Get Out Of Your Own Way

Life can be challenging, and as the CEO of your life and business, you can get stuck. You’re not quite yourself. Inspiration may have left the building.

Self-doubt creeps in, and sometimes you can be our own worst enemy, ruminating, overthinking, holding your own perspective and guarding it like precious gold. Surely if you’ve thought of some life diminishing, imposter syndrome, belittling thought ---- it must be true..!  I’m here to tell you differently.

You see, one thought creeps in and suddenly you lose trust with yourself, with others, you lose your drive, your focus and you become stuck. Essentially you have given a single thought more power than in deserves, and in the process disempowered yourself.  Tune in now.

    What Makes Chanel Unique

    What Makes Chanel Unique

Recently I launched the VRIO framework as a free download on the Business Class Collective website. This framework designed by Jay Barney in 1991, looks at competitive advantage.

VRIO is an acronym for Valuable, Rare, Inimitable and Organised.

Head over to Business Class Collective and download it for free.

So today, in line with this framework, I thought the looking at the Chanel brand might put things into perspective.

    So let’s get started.

Chanel is a French luxury fashion house founded in 1910 by Coco Chanel in Paris. It is privately owned by the Wertheimer family and has been headquartered in London since 2018. Chanel specializes in women's ready-to-wear, luxury goods, and accessories.

This article examines the woman, the vision, the determination, the marketing, the symbols, and the longevity of a brand that has transcended decades.

If you love to wear trousers, you’re not alone, and it’s all because of fashion icon Coco Chanel who liberated women from corsets into free-flowing, loose-fitting, classic designs.

“Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury.”

    How to Get Energised

    How to Get Energised

Life can be joyous, fun, exciting and purposeful.

And we can also experience distraction, anxiety, discomfort, low energy, confusion, brain fog, and overwhelm.

Causes can be from happenings in the workplace, personal relationships, family responsibilities or simply navigating every day life.

Running a business and meeting timelines and everyday demands, can often have business owners, executives and their teams lacking in wellness.

Long days, working late, eating on the run, fuelling on coffee and other stimulants can wreak havoc on your wellbeing as well as your mindset.

If you’re not looking after yourself with a balanced diet, getting adequate restorative sleep, sunshine and exercise, you may feel that you’re dragging your feet and not working or operating in your optimal zone.

The question is how do we take back some control and bring harmony and energy back into the equation?

Firstly it’s to value your time and to prioritise who has access to you and for how long. Are the relationships that you’re investing in bringing joy and contentment or are you treading a precarious tightrope just to get by.

Secondly, aside from weight, perhaps another measure of wellness is your energy levels. Do you have a bounce in your step and manage to get through your day feeling lively and excited, or are you dragging your feet just to make it through to midday? Everything is more difficult if you’re feeling tired, so it’s time to examine your life and get back on top of it.

When harmony is lacking from your life, you tend to rinse and repeat a cycle that interferes with the power to function, regenerate and heal.  It’s like dipping into a bank account that eventually goes into the red. At first, your bodies will whisper a warning, then perhaps a few more in the hope that you hear the message loud a clear. But alas, for some the whisper then becomes a roar, and that usually stops you in our tracks. Your body is demanding attention, and if you don’t give it the right attention, it goes on strike! The Importance of Setting Priorities

    The Importance of Setting Priorities

What is a priority? It’s basically something that is more important than other things and that needs to be done or dealt with first.

Prioritisation helps you focus and feel more confident and effective, and by prioritising your most important work first, it helps you take control of your time and ensures you meet important timelines.

Your productivity is linked to your priorities. You want to be more productive, seek career success, and to work smarter and not harder. You seek work life harmony where you can feel that you can have it all. But unless you learn to prioritise you’ll always feel that you’re chasing your tail.

First things first. Energy levels impact produtivity. So how do you keep your energy levels high? It’s about enjoying a balanced diet, keeping hydrated, working when it most suits your bio rhythms – think night owl or morning lark – and also getting some exercise and sunshine.

Secondly, time management is the other key to woring towards your priorities. Without effective time management you’ll procrastinate, waste time, your attention span will wane, and your valuable time and energy is wasted.

Identifying your priorities helps you focus and reduces distraction and overwhelm.

Protecting time and using time effectively can make all the difference to how your day pans out.  Do you know how you spend your time, or does time slip away from you? Understanding time, goal setting and time management is crucial to working effectively and efficiently.

Some people love writing lists of what needs to be done, and others use technology to build projects and tasks. I use a combination of both.

    The Five Love Languages

    The Five Love Languages

Love languages matter, regardless of whether that’s in your personal relationship, working life, managing a team, or running a business. So as we discuss the various love languages think about what you have or are experiencing with your romantic partner, Look deeply and observe what they need to feel loved and appreciated.

In the workplace observe what makes you feel connected in your role and with your team members or direct reports.

Love is all around us and each of communicate it in a different way.

When I'm discussing workplace love languages I am only speaking from the point of view of above-board working relationships. That's my little disclaimer. It's not about affairs of the heart in the office!

We require a certain amount of emotional intelligence to stay connected and have meaningful relationships that foster communication, connection and intimacy, and love languages help that to happen.

    End of Financial Year Checklist

    End of Financial Year Checklist

The end of financial year is approaching quickly, so I'm chiming in here to make sure you've got your head around the things you need to think about, or to take action on.

    BEFORE 30 JUNE
Consider what you'd like to prepay before 30 June. It might be new plant and equipment, leasing a vehicle, office supplies, stationery, creditors or investing in your staff by way of training and courses. Here's a little plug for the eCourse for Entrepreneurs, a course for business owners, startups, and managers.

It is also a good time to discuss insurance needs with your broker. You may have important changes to your business that should be taken into account when renewing the policies.

When claiming any deductions for your business, be sure to have records to support the expenses that you claim. So, what are some of the deductions? These may relate to travel expenses, computers and/or tools and machinery, motor vehicle expense, or website and IT costs.

Conduct a stocktake so that you have accurate records of stock on hand.

After the final pay-run is processed before 30 June you will need to make sure that you have met all the superannuation requirements with regard to reporting and payments. For this financial year there is a super contribution cap of $27,500.

What does this mean? Say your salary is $80k, super on that amount will be $8,400 and that's what will be paid during the year into your Superfund.

The difference between $27,500 (being the cap) and $8,400  (being the year's contribution) is $19,100 and that would be the extra amount of superannuation that you can contribute to your fund. It's important to speak to your accountant and financial advisor about this. If a super cap payment is made, it needs to happen before 30 June.

Engage an external consultant to reconcile the end of year payroll summaries. This will help to confirm that payments paid  for salaries, super, PAYG or other payments to staff or to yourself if you're flying solo, indeed match the records lodged at the Australian Taxation Office through Single Touch Payroll. If they don't match, then you've got time to remedy the situation.

    AFTER 30 JUNE
If you’re running a business you are most likely using an accounting platform like MYOB, Xero or the like.

    • Download bank statements to 30 June for your everyday business account, VISA, AMEX, other credit cards, or business savings account
    • Reconcile all your bank statements to 30 June
    • Collate copies of expenses paid for your business
    • Download share portfolio statements
    • Collate expenses paid for property investments (utilities, insurance, repairs and maintenance, land tax, annual rental statement), and any bank loan statements
    • Prepare and collate a copy the April-June quarter BAS statement
    • Collate copies of insurance invoices paid (life, travel, computer, public liability, professional indemnity, landlord)
    • Lodge WorkCover declaration for the financial year and an estimate of remuneration for the new financial year

You or your bookkeeper will be able to access the data and run the necessary end of financial year reports.

    • Profit and Loss Statement
    • Trial Balance
    • General Ledger
    • Debtors
    • Creditors

This email is for information purposes only, and it is recommended that you speak to your accountant or financial advisor to obtain professional advice.

With warmest regards and best wishes for a happy financial year,

    Eugenia xx

    The Art of Reinvention

    The Art of Reinvention

The desire for reinvention can be caused by feelings that you’re stuck in a rut, or that you wish to change direction or careers, or perhaps you are going through some sort of personal crisis.

So how do you reinvent yourself? Well firstly you need to become comfortable with asking some very pertinent questions about yourself, your direction and your objectives. Secondly, you need to answer these questions honestly.

Consider accessing your current situation and what it is you want to achieve. Take a piece of paper and write down where you are now, what are your strengths and weaknesses, and what obstacles stand in the way of your achieving your new life.

Define your core goals and create a personal vision statement to support your reinvention. Become clear on why you want something to change. This will help you from chasing shiny objects that don’t serve you well.

List your goals and determine how realistic and achievable these goals are.

Having clear and strong goals means that when times are tough, and obstacles arise, you will have the commitment and can-do to push through. It’s about keeping yourself focused on the objective. Tune in to learn more.

Limiting Beliefs and How To Overcome Them

Limiting Beliefs and How To Overcome Them

This week we are discussing overcoming limiting beliefs.

What are limiting beliefs? Simply put they are excuses. They are the stories we tell ourselves about who we are and what is holding us back from becoming who we are meant to be.

Limiting beliefs prevent us from reaching our full potential. Often, they are subconscious, which means we don’t even know that we have them until someone points them out to us.

Our brain is wired to conserve energy. We are comfortable in our routines, our jobs, and our relationships, and that comfort translates to not wanting to get out of our comfort zone.  We are even capable of sabotaging our own success because of limiting beliefs.

But the truth is that we all can tap into our unlimited potential. You just need to imagine in, believe, face your fears and take action.

How do you know if you have limiting beliefs? Well, some of the three common limiting beliefs include:

I don’t have time – But we all are allocated the same hours in a day. And we know that when we care about something, nothing can hold us back. But if we’re not invested in something, naturally we tell ourselves that we don’t have enough time.

I don’t possess adequate technical skills or I don’t have what it takes. – Fear of failure or fear of success can be at the core of this excuse, or fear of being seen and not doing well. But, with focus and self-belief everything can be possible.

I’m not strong enough – this belief keeps us in our comfort zone. We perceive ourselves as weak and unable to recover from failure, discomfort or rejection. The preference is to stay where we are to avoid the risk of becoming hurt.

I think if we are all honest with ourselves, we could easily identify limiting beliefs that prevent us from self-actualising. These beliefs come from a negative mindset, and a place of fear that prevents you from rising up to experience a new opportunity.

Limiting beliefs hinder progress and get in the way of your potential success. Sometimes the idea of success can be overwhelming, and staying put in your limiting beliefs makes you feel ‘safe’. Tune in to learn more.
