    Co-Parent Dilemmas

There are at least two sides to every conflict, and when it's between divorced or separated parents, sparks can fly. In each episode, co-parenting experts Diane Dierks and Rick Voyles answer listener questions and talk about the benefits and risks of letting go vs. holding on to the conflict in a variety of complex topics facing co-parents today. Do you hold on for the sake of the children or let go for the same reason? Episodes are released every Sunday at noon. Listeners can email 1234Dilemma@gmail.com and pose a question/dilemma that may be answered on an upcoming episode. What do you do when the other parent won't be flexible with the parenting schedule? How do you respond to a co-parent who is constantly blowing up your phone with texts? Is it really important to talk to your children when they are at the other parent's house? And what about the parent who won't share important information with you about the children? Do you give in to the other parent's antics or should you hold your ground? Get answers to these questions and more on Co-Parent Dilemmas, wherever you get your podcasts.

S4.E9. Part One: Holding Family Court Judges Accountable

Diane & Rick report on a recent court hearing they attended, in which the judge admonished the parties to never come back to the court, if they knew what was best for the children. Diane questions what that really means. Is that possible? What if you have no choice? How can judges have so much power to affect the lives of innocent parties who really don’t want to be in front of a judge? They discuss an initiative to get citizens in courtrooms and invite judges who may be listening to come on and explain some of this nonsense!

S3.E30. Whose Phone Is It Anyway?

Listener Janelle wonders if it is okay to snoop on her child’s phone and worries that if the other parent finds out, he will be upset.  Diane & Rick wonder why this is even a question and discuss the importance of managing phone use, regardless of who bought and pays for the phone. They go over the bullet points of their court order language for phone communication, as well as the need to talk to kids about the rules. Also discussed are the reasons kids sometimes don’t want to talk to a parent while at the other parent’s home.

S3.E29. The Messy, Dirty, Non-Discrete World of Real Cases

Diane & Rick discuss the problem of others, like family, friends, and untrained professionals, guilting high-conflict co-parents into trying harder to “just get along”. They explore ideas on how to talk to kids about difficult subjects when one parent is incapable of discretion, putting the other parent in the position of having to help a child process the confusion. They remind listeners that real world high-conflict co-parenting doesn’t have quick, clean, or antiseptic answers.

In this episode, Diane and Rick explore listener Deanne’s question about a co-parent who uses his religion to control and emotionally abuse the children. The hosts discuss how difficult it can be when extreme religious, cultural, political, and social views can make the co-parenting relationship radically stressful for a parent who may have similar values, but that are not taken to the extreme.
