This is it. Lucky episode number seven. And we had the distinct pleasure of sharing time and energy with the OG Greg Cunningham, Senior Executive VP and Chief Diversity Officer for U.S. Bank. We talk about the economic value of investing in community, we talk about the real meaning of legacy, and we talk about why DEI conversations will soon turn into conversations focused on inclusive innovation. Because inviting everybody to the table and doing good for all is good for business.

And, yes, we talk about how the Houston White x Target partnership came to be.

    Coffee As A Catalyst (Video)

    Coffee As A Catalyst (Video)

In this episode, we talk with two very special guests. Dan Anderson is the founder of Dogwood Coffee Company and Hayley Matthews-Jones is the founder of Minneapolis Craft Market. These two along with our host Houston White are the masterminds behind The Get Down Coffee Company, which was founded in 2020 with the purpose of bringing cultural diversity to specialty coffee. But this isn’t actually a conversation about coffee. It’s about how coffee (or any venture) can be a catalyst for community and real connection.

If you’re feeling the desire to deepen your creative or collaborative practice, this one’s for you.

The Cultural Power of the Barbershop

The Cultural Power of the Barbershop

Welcome to the first episode of Culturemaking, a conversation series dedicated to exploring the intersection of creativity, entrepreneurship and humanity with designer and entrepreneur Houston White in collaboration with brand strategist and writer Casie Cook.

We wanted to kick the whole thing off by hearing from Houston about the atmosphere that started it all for him: The Barbershop. As many of you know, Houston opened a shop in North Minneapolis in 2007 and in the years since it has become an intercultural mecca for the community and an incubation space for his many ventures. In this conversation we go deep into the real meaning of that space and how it changed the trajectory of Houston’s life and continues to impact so many others.

Human connection is the most powerful force in nature.

That fusion of me and you into we and us.

Culturemaking is a conversation series dedicated to exploring the intersections of creativity, entrepreneurship and humanity to spark social innovation.

Our hosts and guests represent different cultures, races, genders, and backgrounds – and we celebrate that.

We are for everyone who believes a more intercultural world is not only possible, but urgently necessary.

We are for culture makers, not culture followers.

If you have ever craved a new world, one with more harmony and creativity and realness, you are a culture maker.

    I’m Houston White.

    But this isn’t about me.

    It’s about us.

    This is the time.

    We are the people.

    Let’s change the game, together.
