Jake Kiszka Reveals New Album Details For Greta Van Fleet

Jake Kiszka Reveals New Album Details For Greta Van Fleet
What’s the latest on a new album from Greta Van Fleet? Guitarist Jake Kiszka is apart of the DOMKcast for a second time and revealed that we can expect a new album by the end of the year. He is sworn to secrecy on the title of the new album but said it will be out very soon. This will be the bands first full length album and will cap off an incredible year for Greta Van Fleet. Their career is growing exponentially and have found themselves in some surreal moments in 2018. One of which, playing Elton John’s Oscar Watch Party where they were joined by Elton to perform some of his classic’s. Find that video on my blog. Just go to kmod.com and click on Lunchbox. Jake talks about how special it was to share the stage with a legend.

It’s become a common occurrence at Greta Van Fleet shows for bra’s to find their way onstage. A pivotal moment in any rock bands career to reach bra status. A retro sound in a modern world. Do the guys ever get tired of being compared to Led Zeppelin? Who was their biggest musical influence on their career? Jake answers both of those questions in depth. The Kiszka brothers had a unique upbringing by today’s standards. Listened to blues records out of their dad’s collection for the majority of their childhood. Contemporary music wasn’t even on their radar until middle school where friends introduced some of the popular music to them. Not impressed by the style of hip-hop, the Kiszka brothers continued to be old soles and immersed themselves in classic rock. This would be the foundation for their onstage bravura as a band.

Will Greta Van Fleet be coming to Tulsa soon? They have been touring relentlessly throughout the year which even included an appearance on the Tonight Show last week. Jake drops a few hints about their touring plans the rest of the year. Hear the full conversation with Jake Kiszka of Greta Van Fleet on episode 66 of the DOMKcast. #DOMKRocks

DOMKcast with Matt Brooks of Like A Storm

DOMKcast with Matt Brooks of Like A Storm
The epitome of thinking outside the box would be coming up with an idea to make a metal version of “Gangsta’s Paradise” by Coolio. That’s what the guys from Like. A Storm did a few years back and seems to be a fan favorite at their shows. A band compiled of brothers from New Zealand, Like A Storm will be hitting the road with Godsmack and Shinedown in the upcoming months. Matt Brooks was the special guest on episode 63 of the DOMKcast with Lunchbox and Promo Brady. Fresh off their appearance at Rocklahoma, Matt talked about what he prefers in terms of live shows.

The brothers have a portable studio that they carry around in a backpack. As Matt alluded to, much of the writing and recording for their latest album Catacombs was done on the road over the course of the last few years. Sometimes the ideas would come to him in the middle of the night perhaps from a trans mundane world. The writing process would ensue and the ideas for “Catacombs” were born.

The band often incorporates their New Zealand heritage into the sound of Like A Storm by using a didgeridoo. Which gives their new single “The Devil Inside” a much darker feel. How often do they make it home these days? The band has been well traveled over the years setting up base in Toronto for a few years before moving to the states. How much of an adjustment has it been coming from New Zealand, to Canada and ending up in the United States? Hear the full conversation that Lunchbox and Promo Brady had with Matt Brooks of Like A Storm on episode 63 of the DOMKcast.

DOMKcast with Josh Katz of Badflower

DOMKcast with Josh Katz of Badflower
Suicide has been the topic of conversation lately due to recent events. The song “Ghost” from Badflower has a pellucid meaning and touches on the journey of a man battling depression. Josh Katz the frontman of Badflower is the special guest on episode 62 of the DOMKcast with Lunchbox and Promo Brady. Josh admitted he has his own battles with depression that have been more prevalent in recent years, possibly coinciding with the success of the band. As he said during the conversation, “Success is a weird animal and can do things to your head." You can almost feel the weight of the emotions that the song “Ghost” inflicts on you. It’s a subject that is avoided but the beauty of this song is that it’s going to start the conversation. Title track off the latest album from Badflower which is out now.

The guys from Badflower are persistent. Tired of waiting for the green light from Republic Records. The band decided to record their album “Temper” in their garage. They handed over a copy upon completion and the record label released it as is. Josh said “Being in a band is 10% action and 90% waiting around. We just got tired of waiting.”

A few things you’ll find interesting about the band. They were discovered by Lance Bass of NYSNC during a residency at The Key Club in L.A. No word yet on a rock version “Bye Bye Bye”. Everybody has a phase after your freed of your parents and live on your own for the first time. The things you do just because you can at that point. Josh had a stripper pole in the living room of his first apartment. He had fun reminiscing of the debauchery that went on during those fun days. Hear the full conversation with Josh Katz of Badflower on episode 62 of the DOMKcast.

    DOMKcast with Dereak Messer

    DOMKcast with Dereak Messer
A positive message in a negative climate. That’s what the band Messer would like to convey in their song “Make This Life”. It’s a song about unity and was written after the past election. Rather than sitting back and blame storming, the band made a conscious effort to not take a side. But encourage everyone to put their differences aside and work together. Lead singer and creator of the band Dereak Messer is this weeks special guest on the DOMKcast. The latest band to come out the Deep Elum music scene in Dallas, Tx. The band Messer has actually been around for awhile. The guys used to run around with Pantera years ago. Dimebag made an effort to give the the band their name and told Dereak they should go by “S***faced”. Needless to say Dereak opted for his last name “Messer”.

Dereak has had some tremendous opportunities over the course of his career. Having tried out to be the lead singer of Alice In Chains after Layne Staley’s death. That gig inevitably went to William Duval. Messer’s self titled album is out now. A few of the songs were inspired by Toto’s “Africa”. Despite the influence, flute solos were nowhere to be found on the new album. Maybe on the next one.

Everybody in the band is admitted dog lovers so it made sense to adopt a tee-cup poodle which one of the bandmates gained after a failed relationship. The little guys name is Oscar and according to Dereak, gets more attention from the lady’s than anybody in the band. Messer’s touring will continue for the next few months in various places around Texas. They hope to add more dates throughout the year. Enjoy the full conversation with Dereak Messer on episode 61 of the DOMKcast.

When you’re truly passionate about something in your life, don’t give up. Mixi from the band Stitched Up Heart lived by these words in the early going of the bands career. In most cases with a band, it’s a bit of a grind to get going. Stitched Up Heart had to pay their dues to get to the point where they’re at today. Mixi lived out of her car the first year of the band. Even delivered pizzas to make a little extra money. Fast forward to the present and Stitched Up Heart was apart of an all female lineup earlier this year featuring Halestorm, In This Moment, and New Years Day. Touring and new music is on the agenda moving forward.

New album in the works after the success of “Catch Me When I Fall”, “Monster” and “Finally Free” in years past. New studios this go-around after the congerire of items surrounding them where “Monster” was recorded. A black cat gave birth to two albino cats and spell books on the shelves. Friendlier and less creepy quarters have been used to enhance the creative experience. The superstitious type would be scared off by a black cat, not Mixi and the rest of Stitched Up Heart. Animal lovers themselves, and do things for animal foundations regularly.

Mixi touched on her journey of going through the process of becoming sober. An easy thing to get wrapped up in while on tour. She reached a point where she just didn’t want to drink anymore. Holding strong in situations to this day. She admits it’s a hard struggle at times. Partying with Lzzy Hale and crew, she’ll opted for a shot of water instead. Overall, she feels that it has helped her writing. Expect new music from Stitched Up Heart soon! Hear Mixi on episode 60 of the DOMKcast with Lunchbox and Promo Brady.

The process just might involve Ivan Moody cranking out some vocals during karaoke night at a bar somewhere.
