Today, we barely scratch the surface of one of the most violent dictators in history - “His Excellency, President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hajj Doctor Idi Amin Dada, VC, DSO, MC, Lord of all the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Sea and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and Uganda in Particular.” - Idi Amin. During his eight years in power, he likely killed 300,000 people in Uganda, in a wildly violent way. Buckle up and join us on this week's Doomed to Fail.

The USPS is an American institution that used to be a very successful lifetime career. Add Richard Nixon and some tight deadlines, and remove all the joy; what do you get? The Goleta postal facility shootings by Jennifer San Marco and the Edmond post office shooting by Patrick Sherrill. It's a tragically American story.

Ok! It's 5:13 am on April 18, 1906. The earthquake is over, a lot of people are dead or trapped in the rubble. Almost right away, dozens of fires start across the city - many are small in homes and can be put out immediately. But some, especially in places where the gas lines have ruptured, are out of control in minutes. In a city where many are trapped or injured, they now need to run for their lives to escape the flames. After four days of fire and a heroic stand by the SF Fire Department and the US Military - 80% of San Francisco will be gone.

When a gaggle of terrible people, led by former child actor Skylar Deleon decided to kill them in the most horrible way and steal their yacht, they aren't smart (but we're willing to bet that they thought they were) and got caught right away. Now so many lives are ruined.

Today, it is part one of the Great San Francisco disasters of 1906. We talk about the history of San Francisco, how California became a state, immigration and birthright with the United States v Wong Kim Ark, and finally, the 42 seconds of terror as a 7.9 magnitude earthquake jolted the city awake at 5:12 am on April 18, 1906.

Have you heard of one of Germany's most popular authors, Karl May? Born in the 1800s, post a life of petty-crime, Karl took his imagination WAY west and wrote several books about a traveling duo - Apache chief Winnetou and German settler Old Shatterhand. Even though none of it was true, that didn't stop Karl from dressing the part and saying it was true.

These books are deep in the German zeitgeist - Einstein read them... Hitler read them (of course). Taylor, who lives in and is from the American West saw her first Wild West show IN Germany in 2000. They are still wildly popular today.
