That particular number comes from recent filings made with the Federal Election Commission, which showed that: “Former President Donald Trump used more than $47 million in campaign funds to cover legal expenses in 2023… [T]wo groups associated with President Trump, Save America and Make America Great Again Inc., paid more than 350 different transactions to more than 50 law firms, consultancies, and individuals for legal services and consulting.”

If you go back another year, it shows that President Trump has spent about $76 million over the last two years on attorneys.

It’s a little hard to find data around these types of things, but I would imagine that with numbers like these, President Trump might hold the record for the most money spent on legal fees by a single person in American history. And so, given that the majority of political donation spending is being used on these legal challenges—covering this year’s election pretty much revolves around the developments in the many legal challenges that President Trump is facing.

The resolution has 22 specific articles of impeachment, with each one of them being an alleged violation of Georgia Code 16-10-1, which states that “any public officer who willfully and intentionally violates the terms of his oath as prescribed by law shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished by imprisonment for not less than one nor more than five years.”

And after almost a year of legal back and forth, the judge in the case ruled in Ms. Frenchko’s favor, arguing that her constitutional rights were violated when her Democrat colleagues had her arrested during the public meeting.

A Superior Court judge ruled that since Nathan Wade, the man she was having an alleged affair with, was the lead prosecutor against a former president, and that since the “criminal proceeding [is] of historic importance,” the claim of a relationship between the special prosecutor and district attorney “must be answered in a transparent manner to preserve public confidence in our judicial system.” And as such, the ongoing divorce records were opened to the public—and they shed interesting light on what’s been happening behind the scenes, such as the fact that Mr. Wade was held in contempt of court for failing to hand over his financial statements: “One of the unsealed records shows that Mr. Wade was found in contempt in August 2023 for failing to adequately provide discovery documents. An order that month said Mr. Wade could purge himself of contempt by delivering the documents. In the months after the order, Mr. Wade failed to come into compliance with the court’s directives.”
