This week Shawn & Kenny reflect on an impactful and informative conversation they had during National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month with Emerita Verdejo, a licensed psychotherapist based out of New York & New Jersey who is the CEO and owner of Pathways to Healing & Social Justice.

With over a decade of experience in the field she gives professional answers to the tough questions that the FCP crew continually ask to get to the bottom of what can we as a community do to properly discuss, hopefully prevent and ways you can possibly assist someone in need without overstepping boundaries. They also discuss how one can become better educated about mental illness while also dissecting the many dos and do nots around the stigma of suicide.

If you or someone you know is in crisis or struggling with suicidal ideations, there are several suicide prevention resources available. The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7 for anyone in emotional distress or contemplating suicide. You can call or text 988 or chat online at 988lifeline.org and a trained counselor will provide support.

This week Shawn & Kenny got the prestige opportunity to sit down with Co-Owner & Co-Founder, Coach Redd of ‘Bigger than Basketball’ (@biggerthanbasketballl), which is a not-for profit youth program based out of Staten Island. They got to dive into the origin and purpose of the organization, the people involved with its creation, its importance to the youth, his upbringing and transition from player to coach, how todays style of basketball play is much different from the past and describes how working hard, having structure and staying disciplined will always pay off in the long run.
