    Combatting Burnout

    Combatting Burnout
Combatting Burnout Talk less and listen more. First and foremost listen to yourself and what your body is telling you even if your mind is trying to push you harder. This was one of many powerful insights by Elizabeth Rosenberg, Founder of the appropriately named, Good Advice Company, who joined Jennifer Hill and Brandon Maslan to share her good advice. She shared that after winding up in the hospital she finally got healthy and started listening to herself. We so often put too much pressure on ourselves and the best thing for our careers is to take it easy so we can go harder later. Finally, she shared a great tip for starting meetings by asking others to check in on a scale of 1-5 on how they are doing mentally today and then adjusting your approach to meet them where they are. Be sure to check in with yourself on that same scale and if needed share with others where you are.

    Communication

    Communication
Communication Jennifer Hill and Brandon Maslan discussed the importance of clear, authentic, and concise communication in one's career. When you are excited and passionate it is easier to elicit that same reaction in a listener. Be sure to ask questions about how a person is doing on that day and what matters most to them. We all have the ability to better understand one another, we just have to be willing to be authentic. In seeking to be understood you should always seek to first understand.

    Impostor Syndrome

    Impostor Syndrome
Impostor Syndrome Jennifer Hill and Brandon Maslan delved into why Impostor Syndrome is linked to one's success. When your doubt is the loudest it can show up in interviews and in fact, often results in you not putting yourself up for promotions or raises. By naming the ways you sabotage yourself, you are able to stop it. This can be done by reaching out to others for support and discovering how you help them. At the end of the day, you are ready for the job before you think you are ready. Be confident about what you bring and be excited about it, then talk about that in interviews internally and externally. Then you will conquer your impostor!

    Intention X Action = Success

    Intention X Action = Success
Intention X Action = Success Jennifer Hill and Brandon Maslan discussed the importance of having a clear intention in your career and your life. We all have 168 hours every week to make our vision a reality. The more time you spend in action towards that vision the better. Sometimes the best action is to trust that even a little can go a long way. To create your intent for your career the hosts suggested writing down what you want once in the morning, again in the afternoon, and once more in the evening. Then think of anybody who can help you achieve your goals and make a plan to reach out. Better yet, what is an action you can take that week to help move you closer to your goal? Think about anything or anybody who is a roadblock to achieving your intent. Finally, when you are feeling stuck it is vital to give and provide help to others. The more you give the quicker you will receive what you want!

    Accountability

    Accountability
Accountability Brandon Maslan and Jennifer Hill were joined by Stephan Stubbins who is a transformative coach and whose background includes being on Broadway and co-creating a theatre company called Transcendence Theatre. He shared his inspiring takes on emotional intelligence and self-regulation to achieve one's goal of getting THE job of their dreams. He discussed the importance of seeking out the right environment. One of his mantras is that which I am seeking is also seeking me. What do Curious George and Albert Einstein have in common? Well, an insatiable curiosity of course. His suggestion in interviews was to get curious about the interviewer and find out what their passions are as a way to foster immediate connection and value. Tips on the regulation of yourself to achieve your goals were blocking time, creating a list of intentions that are ranked from most important to the least, and finding the tools that work for you. Finally, he recommended having an accountability partner as well as a great coach, which are all too often one and the same! Appreciation at Work

    Appreciation at Work
Appreciation at Work Brandon Maslan and Jennifer K. Hill speak with best-selling author, speaker and thought-leader Dr. Paul White about how appreciation can make us better employees and managers. Dr. White emphasizes the importances of pausing and listening, as well as understanding what a person's preferred method is for being appreciated {i.e. Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Acts/Services, Gifts (not including bonus or salary), Physical Touch (such as a high five)}. He suggests that the best way to appreciate someone is by using their name and appreciating them for something specific (if they prefer words of affirmation), and we honor not just what people do at work, but also what they do outside of work. One of the most important things that Dr. White says to do when we are spending time with others via Zoom or in person is to make eye contact, smile, address them by name and to connect in a meaningful way that has the other person feel seen, heard and known. https://www.appreciationatwork.com/

She explains that what matters to Generation Z and Millennials is going to differ from that of Baby Boomers and Gen Xers. She goes on to say that the more stagnant companies and leaders will not survive in this new frontier. The future of work, Alex says, is going to require continuous learning and curiosity. Storytelling Tips From A Hollywood Screenwriter

Storytelling Tips From A Hollywood Screenwriter
Storytelling Tips From A Hollywood Screenwriter Brandon Maslan and Jennifer Hill were joined by Hollywood screenwriter, master storyteller, and story creation consultant, Justin Sternberg. He shared that every story should have 4 beats; who you were, the inciting incident, path to success, and who you are now. The key to a great story is writing and speaking of what you feel rather than what you experienced. You must understand the point of the story you are telling so that the listener can as well. Rather than telling an interviewer, you are creative you should tell a story about how you acted creatively in the past.
