    Practical and Empowering Perception Shifts

    On this episode, I share a variety of different ways to explore the role your perspective plays in your life, and various ways to shift or expand your perspective. I hope you pick one or two that speak to your current situation, and take some time to question and explore. 

    Here are the list of questions at the end, as a sort of recap and reminder of what we covered in this episode: 

    • Regarding your frame of reference, what experiences are over-represented or underrepresented, when contrasted with the wider world of experiences? 

    • In regards to difficult relationships and interactions, what factors might be influencing the other people involved? What factors have led YOU to act and respond in the ways you do? How can this understanding improve your communications moving forward? 

    • When something is stressing you out, ask yourself how you will feel about this thing in 10 years?

    • Ask yourself what ways you have held yourself back, because you were predicting a negative future outcome? If you are doing so, ask yourself to remember all the times things have surprised you as a way to remember that you don’t know this negative future to be true.

    • Where are my expectations for myself and others out of alignment with reality? Where have I created stories of what “should be” rather than recognizing things as they are and working with that?


    • Where am I letting external feedback have too much influence over me? Are there areas where I can benefit from receiving more external feedback? 


    • And finally, what traits and qualities am I assigning myself as fixed, rather than allowing myself room to grow? Where am I assigning fixed traits to others in my life?

Allow the symbols to work at a deep level and experience the change in your day to day life, or get some insight and clarity from understanding more about yourself from this experience. However you experience this museum, just know that it works on different levels to help you improve your perspective and appreciation for yourself, which is a great foundation for healthy relationships with others as well.

    Making Incremental Progress

    Making Incremental Progress

    This week, we are taking one step forward at a time, day by day, and letting it add up over time, in order to take huge goals and changes, and turn them into bite sized, completely doable bits. Here are the 8 ideas we discuss: 

    1) Make it something you can do daily! Keep up that regular chain, make it a pattern, and you won't have to do much each day to see progress. 
    2) Identify your minimum possible action, something to keep you in the game, that you are able to accomplish even on your worst days. 
     3) Track your progress!
    4) Be clear on what you actually want, not just what you don't want. Visualize the end goal, as though you are seeing yourself in a movie. 
    5) Find your key leverage moments, both for applying action and tracking results.
    6) Make sure you are focused on the aspects where you have some control.
    7) Be willing to start small and be a beginner.
    8) Get help when you need it, to get some momentum going to build your capacity.  

    Apply these ideas to a goal or change you are ready to start taking steps forward on today.

    Feeling Overwhelmed

    Feeling Overwhelmed

    This episode is basically some helpful steps that I use to move through moments of feeling overwhelmed, rather than getting stuck in that negative place longer than I really need to. 

    1. Actually feel your feelings, physically, like where do you feel that in your body? Thoughts ABOUT the feeling will pop in, but do your best to release them instead of engaging with them.
    2. Once the physically feelings calm down, then we examine what these feelings are trying to tell us. Write a list of the tasks or thoughts that are overwhelming you, and get them out of your head and onto the page. 
    3. Examine the items on the list, asking questions like  these:
       Is this expectation actually within my control?
       Does the really need to be done and what are the consequences if it does not get done? 
      Is this something that needs to be done now, or done by me?
       Is this thought actually true, and what evidence can I think of that it is NOT true? 
      Is this emotions really about my past patterns rather than actually happening right now in my life? 
    4. Use tools like hypnosis, EFT tapping, and NLP submodality shifts to release stuck patterns that aren't serving you. 
    5. Practice moments of mindful meditation throughout your day, just 30 seconds or a minute at a time, where you observe your thoughts, and let them come and go rather than engaging with them. When you notice yourself engaging again, just step back into observation mode each time. The noticing and bringing awareness back IS the practice, and not failure in this exercise.

    Hypnosis to spring clean your mind

    The hypnosis session in this episode is inspired by an episode of the show Hoarders, which popped up in my youtube feed. We'll use the metaphor of cleaning out a house, taking all the old stuff, clearing space to live now, rather than letting all our old things rob of us the ability to move comfortably through our homes and through our lives, as a way for your unconscious mind to clear out some of the mental and emotional "clutter" we all carry. Let your imagination run wild, as you hunt through drawers, closets and cupboards, looking for whatever symbolic mental junk your unconscious mind is ready to help you clear up today.
