    Husband In Law

Connect with the Husband In Law crew: https://theboldlogic.com/boldetin Hey Friend! If you are new here, be sure to start with Episode One. This is not your typical podcast and you aren’t going to want to miss a thing! Jessica, Steve (her gay ex-husband) and Matt (her current husband) are sharing their stories of love, marriage, infidelity, divorce, coming out, remarriage and co-parenting to help others know they are not alone. This podcast is for those who are open-minded enough to let go of the religious and social norms we have been taught we should fit into and live a life that feels true and authentic to who they are. Steve, Jessica, and Matt are here to walk through the science of making relationsh!t successful. Steve and Jessica were happily married for 7 years until Steve came out as being gay which inevitably ended in divorce. Now, Matt and Jessica have been happily married for over 8 years. The crazy part is, Matt, Jessica, and Steve all get along, to the extent that Matt and Steve work together, every dang day… Don’t worry you will get all the details while you listen. Matt, Jessica, and Steve have a relationship that, by most standards, would be considered atypical. Sharing stories of love, marriage, children, divorce, the struggles of religious norms, homosexuality, and trying to be our best selves, this podcast holds nothing back and shares what most people are scared to talk about. Listen in as they take you on this journey of learning how to love and accept themselves enough to love and accept others for who they are during this experience called “Life”.

    Navigating Divorce in Religion

    Navigating Divorce in Religion

Going through a divorce is hard. Then add on family pressures, societal pressures, and religious pressures, and it can lead you to an even deeper downward spiral. In this episode, we are bringing in Noelle McBride, who talks about navigating divorce in the context of a very conservative religion.

Noelle McBride was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. After being blessed with three children during a 17-year marriage, she went through a difficult and heartbreaking divorce. Despite this hardship, Noelle experienced much healing and hope in her personal life through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Desiring to help others navigate the same trial, Noelle shares the promises and peace of the gospel in her book Beauty for Ashes: Divorce and the Latter-day Saint Woman.

She is a professional motivational speaker and teacher with over 20 years of experience counseling many women in groups and one-on-one. Noelle currently leads workshops for women focused on overcoming the trials and the hardships of divorce based on gospel principles. She currently serves as an ordinance worker in the Seattle Temple and in the Stake Relief Society Presidency. After a season as a single parent, Noelle eventually remarried a widower in the Columbia River Temple. They are now raising all 6 of their children together and learning the joys of navigating a blended family. On rainy days you can find her curled up in front of a fire with a warm cup of tea and a good book.

Ready for hope, peace, freedom, and support after crisis in your relationship? Register for the FREE “What NOW?!” workshop today! This workshop will not be happening again until next year.  Now is the time to take action. theboldlogic.com/freeworkshop

    Is It Narcissism?

    Is It Narcissism?

This week we kick off our summer series of podcast episodes with a doozy. Please welcome Tony Overbay LMFT to the show. We sit down to talk about all things Narcissism. Tony lays it all out there… beware you may feel called out.

Tony Overbay is a licensed marriage and family therapist, speaker, author, and podcast host. With over 8 million downloads, his award-winning podcast, The Virtual Couch, has been listened to in over 170 countries around the world. Since its release in mid-2021, his podcast Waking Up To Narcissism has been a mainstay in the "mental health" category. "Waking Up" eventually led to the creation of a private Facebook group for women in relationships with narcissistic individuals, and the "Waking Up to Narcissism - Premium Question & Answer Podcast," a subscription-based question and answer podcast that now funds a non-profit to help women pay for some of the mental health costs of being in unhealthy relationships.

Tony recently released a new "true crime meets therapy" podcast called Murder on the Couch, co-hosted with his daughter Sydney. His first book, "He's a Porn Addict, Now What? An Expert and a Former Addict Answer Your Questions," spent two years as a best-seller in the sexual health and recovery category on Amazon.

In addition to his podcast and books, Tony offers online courses for marriage, parenting, and addiction. He has been married to his high school sweetheart for 32 years and has four adult children, ages 19, 21, 23, and 25. We have never laughed this hard before during an episode. Which seems ironic because we are talking about S.E.X. and answering a question  you asked regarding how we talk to our kids about sex in a more inclusive way. While we aren't experts, we can share our experiences. For context, here is the question that was submitted:

“I feel it's important to talk to our children openly about sex and boundaries.  My oldest son told us he was gay a couple years ago. I would love for you guys to talk about how to address that with our kids whose sex lives might look different than our own. What does your ex husband wish he would have known? Honestly I hear a lot about talking to your kids about it, but they only talk about how to address "traditional" male/female sex. What do we need to educate our child differently? Where are those resources?”

Things I, Jessica,  used to say and/or think to make myself feel comfortable with how the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the church that Matt and I are currently still an active members of, views and treats the LGBTQ Community.  This conversation did NOT go how I thought it would and threw us all for a loop at the end. It did gives each of us more understanding as to where Steve, Matt and I each stand on this subject.

Do you know what it feels like when your gut is telling you something? Do you know how to hear what your inner voice is calling you to do? Many of us have never know what is was like to trust ourselves. We have been told since we were young that we shouldn't feel "blank". That we should do this. That we shouldn't do that and it has shut down the natural gift that is in us to trust ourselves. Today we are going to talk about how we start to get that back.
