Since the day I started this podcast, Paul Bearer was and remained on my list of top 5 people that I had wanted to interview for more than one reason.
I'm sure that its clear to almost anyone who has seen him play on any stage anywhere during his over 35 year career in music that he is one of the most unique front-men the hardcore/punk scene has ever had. Its an enduring legacy that persists because Paul is known as much for the great material he's been making for all those years on records as much as his for his classic rants, wit and epic storytelling in between the songs.
So, as satisfying and almost familiar as it was to hear Paul speak in a way that reflected the lyrics and stage persona that many of us have come to know and expect over the years, it was intriguing and gratifying to hear him speak in a deep, caring and profound way. He showed a side I had never really seen before and spoke of things I had never heard in previous interviews.
I finally got a chance to chop it up with the legendary Long Island MC RA The Rugged Man. We talked movies and hip hop, including about his brilliant brand new album, All My Heroes Are Dead (out now). Dropping this one as a joint venture between Red River Podcast and If I Ruled The World Podcast. It was recorded via zoom so I cleaned the audio as best i could in this pandemic era. Don Fury called in from his current studio in Troy, New York to discuss his incredible musical history and his current projects.
