    #3 - Christine Erickson, LCMHC (Part 1)

I sat down with Christine Erickson, LCMHC for a great discussion. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology. She uses an individual approach combining principles of neuroscience, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and mindfulness. She has done additional extensive training, receiving a Certificate in Mindfulness in Psychotherapy in 2014. Christine's practice is in St. George, UT. She helps patients with a variety of mental health related issues as well as dealing with bullying and past trauma.

I split our hour long interview into two parts. This is part 1 where we discuss dealing with anxiety, depression and suicidality. She talks about how someone struggling with this can reach out but also how people can help those they care about struggling with mental health. She talks about how people can consistently show up and keep those loved ones safe when battling suicidal ideation.

We discuss the huge jump in depression and anxiety over the past decade and how social media contributes to that.

Christine specializes in doing mindfulness mediation which she incorporates into her practice. Part 2 is where we discuss more fully what is Mindfulness and how to implement it into your mental health lifestyle. We end part 2 with Christine doing a guided mindfulness session. Here's the video link to that.  https://vimeo.com/334089250

Christine has a 5wk mindfulness program being released on May 14th that will give everyone access to this helpful practice that has been beneficial to so many.

I'm really excited for this episode and the next cause I feel like there's something for everyone in the content we discussed. Christine is such a kind person and I had a great time talking with her. Please welcome Christine Erickson

    #2 - Julia Stewart

    #2 - Julia Stewart

We sat down with Julia Stewart and had a great conversation. I've loved getting to know her and had a great time discussing her journey living with depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation since age 13. I really admire how she owns her story and struggle and has found peace in owning who she is and finding answers in openly talking about it. We discuss her ups and downs and many different things she's tried to overcome the despair she's often felt. We later talk about her experience receiving ketamine treatments and how for her has been one of the most positive experiences through all this.

I originally met Julia doing a video shoot for a company in Encinitas, CA called South Coast TMS and Ketamine. It's owned by Dr. Drew Belnap, MD who worked as an anesthesiologist for years in the hospital setting and now runs his clinic treating people suffering with anxiety, depression, suicidality and migraines through Ketamine IV infusions.

I also received Ketamine treatments when we lived in Encinitas and had a positive experience with it. I talk about it at the of the episode and give advice on what to be aware of and how to find the safest and best place if you're considering trying Ketamine for yourself.

Hopefully you enjoy this episode and welcome to the podcast Julia Stewart.

Thank you for listening and as always, never hesitate to reach out to us if you have questions or experiences you'd like to share that we could discuss on future episodes.

#1 - Intro to In My Head

#1 - Intro to In My Head

This is the premiere episode of the In My Head Podcast! The host Kavin will be sharing what this podcast will be all about. Most of these episodes will center around the theme of mental health and wellness and trying to dispense with the stigma around mental illness. We want to create open discussions in a time where it's most needed.

While a lot of these episodes are to help people struggling with mental illness, it's also for those seeking help for people they know and helping you better understand what they're going through.

In future episodes, we'll have guests with personal experience with mental illness, professionals sharing their expertise, solo episodes discussing certain topics as well as stand alone "challenge" episodes where we try to implement new positive routines or behaviors as well as trying to get rid of things that hold us back or tie us down to negative mind sets.

We're very excited to be launching this new podcast and hope it will be helpful for you or someone you know. Please subscribe via iTunes or wherever you listen to your podcasts and share this if you think it will help someone. Thank you for listening and welcome to the In My Head Podcast!
