Fire Medic Perspective 21: EMS at the National Fire Academy

Fire Medic Perspective 21: EMS at the National Fire Academy
In this episode we see  "The National Fire Academy: Not Just Fire Anymore" as we talk with Michael Stern, EMS Training Specialist for the National Fire Academy. Previously the EMS Deputy Chief and Emergency Manager for Grand County Colorado, the Training Director for Summit County Ambulance Service (Colorado), and instructor for EMT and Paramedic programs, Michael was also a Navy Corpsman and a volunteer Firefighter/EMT/Paramedic at Company 18 in Prince George’s County Fire EMS Department (Maryland). The NFA is known for high level fire service training and education, especially its leadership programs. How and why is the NFA expanding beyond fire programs into EMS, emergency management and other areas? Do you have to be a firefighter to attend? How is an institute like the NFA of benefit to the average EMT or Paramedic on the street? We answer these questions and more on this episode of A Fire Medic Perspective with Rom Duckworth.

    Same Job... Different Location

    Same Job... Different Location
The old saying "There's more than one way to skin a cat" has been around forever. But what if you don't know the "more than one way." EMS is experiencing changes nationwide and we need to know what agencies are doing nationwide to keep up with these changes.  How do you share information? How do you network with an agency that might know that "better way".  Call in if your agency has implemented a progressive idea to keep up with these changing times. Fresh off a two week EMS Mangement class at the National Fire Academy, Dave will be joined by several other attendees.

Fire Medic Perspective 19: Everyday Educator's Lesson Plans
Rom invites author and national EMS Education expert Richard Beebe on to talk about how emergency services educators MUST use lesson plans today. We cover developing your own, using someone else's and even scratching a lesson plan out on the back of an envelope right before class! However you wind up doing it, Richard's tips will guide you to better training every day.

    Fire Medic Perspective Episode 13

    Fire Medic Perspective Episode 13
Rom Duckworth sits down with Capt. Jerry Myers to ask "Bloodborne Pathogens: What do we REALLY need to know?" We have to sit down every year, but what is new in 2013? Are we teaching what we are supposed to? What does and Infection Control Officer even do? What is the role of a supervisor or company officer in an exposure? Call in and ask your questions to our experts!

    Through the Eyes of Media
The Boston Marathon Bombing this week had some very graphic pictures broadcast worldwide. Do you think that graphic coverage of events such as this make what we do easier. Isn't what we do graphic enough? Does seeing this type of coverage give us any benefit to doing our jobs better? CISM Expert Dennis Carradin will be joining us live. He has been in Boston since the explosions. http://www.denniscarradin.com/About-Dennis.html Some tech issues throughout the show and the end cuts off but a great listen. Join.......
