    Solo Episode: Flexible work

    Solo Episode: Flexible work

Inspired by the wonderful Aoife O'Brien and her solo episodes on her podcast "Happier at Work" I have created this solo episode!

In this special episode I talk about about flexible work and in particular why we still have a very long way to go regarding part-time work as well as remote & part-time work in North America and beyond.

In the episode I also invite you, my listeners to contemplate some of your views about part-time work.

I referred to several articles in the podcast:

    Happier at Work:

    https://happieratwork.ie/

    Zurich UK:

    https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2020/12/zurich-flexible-working-women-diversity/

    Part-time jobs:

New shift allowing for moms/ caregivers:

If you enjoyed this episode, I also highly recomment the recent podcast episode with Johanna Fink who specialises in part-time careers:

    https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/johanna-fink-business-coach-podcast-host-leadership/id1505170119?i=1000559948007

For an overview episode of part-time work in the form of job sharing, I put this episode together in celebration of the 100th episode:

    https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/special-celebratory-overview-episode-part-1/id1505170119?i=1000554540484

While I may not have focused particularly about the importance of part-time work for *everyone* in this solo episode, I am a big believer that we can only get to more flexible work if we have especially male role models taking on care work and working flexibly. This summary episode talks about my 20+ episodes with dads and dad advocates.

I am delighted to introduce my guest Helen Hirsh Spence today.

After devoting 35 years to increasingly senior leadership positions in both the public and private education sectors, Helen embarked on a journey of social entrepreneurship. As a result, she founded Top Sixty Over Sixty which was created to celebrate, educate and amplify the positive impact of older Canadians by debunking common myths about ageing and being “old”.

Top Sixty Over Sixty provides thought leadership, consulting and training on age inclusion and diversity. Helen publishes articles, speaks at conferences, and organizes events to promote a reframed narrative of ageing.

Carlotta Dal Pozzo: Advocate for reduced working week

Carlotta Dal Pozzo: Advocate for reduced working week

This week I am very appreciative to have as my guest Carlotta Dal Pozzo. Carlotta is an Italian woman based in Berlin, with a passion for everything related to occupational psychology and companies' culture. Taking her first steps into innovative ways of working, she's an advocate of a reduced working week.

As more and more companies are struggling with the great resignation, I feel it is particularly important to learn from different generations about their expectations regarding the future of work.

In this episode I speak with Carlotta about her recently finished bachelor thesis in psychological science about debunking the myth of the 9-to-5 working hours. I found it very interesting to have with Carlotta another guest who has written a university thesis about various aspects of flexible work. To me it follows the trend of many surveys that offering various modes of flexible work is increasingly expected as a given to attract and retain talent.

Carlotta told me about her research regarding various European case studies and theoretical models. She also shared her personal observations regarding work in Germany and Italy.

    How to connect with Carlotta:

    What we talked about:

4:05 Why did she decide on her thesis topic?

5:37 Theoretical part of her thesis

11:19 Changes due to the pandemic

14:55 Case studies of Carlotta's thesis

27:12 3 Tips regarding retention and attraction of talent

30:46 Italy and Germany work culture
