    What does it mean to lead in the digital space with heart and grace? On my podcast, Josie and the Podcast, I spend time with role models of digital leadership in higher education to answer this question. Whether we’re deconstructing trends on TikTok, sharing best practices for maintaining a digital community, or building up communications professionals by addressing mental health and burnout, my goal is to share conversations that encourage you, empower you, and entertain you to rethink digital strategy - for yourself and the organizations you support.

    Hey Higher Ed, Are You Okay?

    It's been a while since we’ve seen each other! When we wrapped season 4 in the fall of 2020, we thought of it as a kind of intermission. A 2-year long intermission. But we are finally back!

    So we start off today's episode with a little reintroduction to myself, the podcast, and my mission. 

    But mostly, we want to check in with this shorty episode. This fall semester has been a tough one for me, there has just been a heaviness that I haven’t been able to shake. And I’m guessing I may not be the only one. So I want to check in with you. How are you supporting yourself when work and life get hard? What are your self-care routines, and are you doing them?

    And I want to check in with your work. Are you being open and honest with your team about the support you need, and are you giving them the space to be honest with you? We’re hoping to crack the concept that we’re all doing fine. Because higher ed is indeed not doing okay.

    Even without social media, serving in an executive position in higher education has become extremely taxing. Add on social media and sustainability gets even more strained. While vast opportunities and excitement exist to get a campus president or Dean on Twitter or even TikTok - the question must be asked, is it sustainable? In this shorty episode, I offer a simple and even soulful approach that will require something that most campus senior leaders are overdue for a social media strategy. But one thing I am not afraid of is destigmatizing the negative perceptions of tech, digital platforms, and social media. College students today have been haunted by the “new” age tale that social media is the Boogeyman under your bed, ready to spook away any job prospects or future opportunities. I’m calling bluff! LT was a latecomer to identifying as “first-generation” but when she learned about it while she was in her doctoral program she knew she checked all of the boxes and set out to educate students like herself.
