What is Kambo?
Kambo, also known as Sapo, is an amazonian, medicine, which has been used for thousands of years by ancient tribes for cleansing the immune system and gaining unparalleled alertness, often before they go on a hunting expedition. The medicine consists of the secretion taken from the Macifrog (Phyllomedusa bicolor) and applied to the skin by way of small burn marks (points).
You then go through a process of elevated heartbeat, hot flushes, nausea, some, but not all find their face swells up and then (if you’re lucky) the inevitable purge comes deep from within. Sound like hell? in my experience, it often is. However, when the purge comes you are met with a sense of euphoria and wellbeing.
Know this might not sound like everyone’s idea of a good time and I can sympathise with people who would be somewhat hesitant. For those who are somewhat cautious about Kambo, I strongly recommend you listen to this podcast with Jonathan Gold as he lists the many immune-boosting benefits Kambo has the potential to offer.
