Body Confidence After The Age Of 40 with Rachel Peru

Body Confidence After The Age Of 40 with Rachel Peru

This conversation is one of my favorites on the show if I had to pick one. As I get closer to the age of 40 in a few years I have started to look at life differently, but what about my body? What changes will it go through? Have you ever been there? We hear all the things that 40 is the new 20 or perimenopause will be dreadful, but what if we can go into our 40s with confidence. If you are already 40, are you confident enough to model lingerie? Today’s guest Rachel Peru a Body Confidence Activist and Host of "Out Of The Bubble Podcast", found that confidence and is now a signed model and confident after the age of 40.

Body confidence is something as a mom we have ups and downs with, especially with the added pressure of the snap back post partum body or the scars and tiger stripes left behind after we brought life into the world, but what if, just what if, we no longer had to think about this? On this episode I am joined by Rachel Peru who calls herself a silver hair model and host on “Out of The Bubble'' podcast and we dive into Body confidence after 40. Rachel broke barriers when she appeared in a ground-breaking Swimsuits for All campaign with Ashley Graham, and her career was launched from there.

"I love being able to represent older women in the fashion industry and have worked with some amazing people and brands including JDWilliams, F&F Clothing with Davina McCall and alongside my body confidence icon Ashley Graham for Swimsuits for All. My favourite shoots are always swimwear and lingerie and now I’m 50 I feel like I’m just getting started."

1. Don’t think about it (your body).
2. You are whole and enough.
3. What Rachel would say to a younger girl/lady who struggles with body confidence?
4. Our kids are proud of us when we go after what we want.
5. There is life after divorce and 40.
6. The grieving process of motherhood.
7. Body positivity is changing in the U.S. and in the U.K.

How To Plan A Productive Day

How To Plan A Productive Day

When was the last time you had everything mapped out for the day? You had your calendar prioritized and was ready to tackle the day? Are you currently working from home with the littles there with you? Or like me, get certain days of the week to work and stay truly focused because you only work part time and have to make the most of the focused time you get.

In this episode, I want to walk you through the new printable worksheet to set up your day so you can focus on the right things without feeling overwhelmed and behind. Which is often the challenge of productivity, not being focused on the right things. This can also be helpful on those days that school is canceled and you just are scrambling to figure things out.

One Year Anniversary!! Of Helping Prevent Burnout For Busy Moms

One Year Anniversary!! Of Helping Prevent Burnout For Busy Moms

Momma's Morning Cup Is One! Last year I was building an online course for busy moms and specifically special needs families. I invested a lot of money to be trained by one of the best, if not the best online course creators herself Amy Porterfield. I had accountability partners who are amazing ladies and helped me every step of the way, well we helped each other. Somewhere along the way I backed up and thought about how I can teach these strategies to families and not build that connection first? It wasn’t possible. I then thought, well should I solely focus on special needs families like I have for the past 6 years or should I connect with the root and foundation of most families, the mother. So I started a Podcast!

Key Takeaways In this episode;

• Momma's Morning Cup Is One Year Old.
• The Pandemic is taking a toll on mothers.
• Accepting the things we cannot change.
• Finding Joy
• Burnout
• Free Resources

The Assignment, Motherhood. Unpacking A Unique Experience

The Assignment, Motherhood. Unpacking A Unique Experience

SEASON 1 FINALE
As we wrap up the last of The Assignment series, I want to talk about our assignment as a mother. Let's recap what assignment means. Assignment means a job or duty that is given to someone a task someone is required to do.

We talked about our assignment as a woman which I said, “Now, if you want to look at the definition, again, we were given a task to do. It will vary throughout our lives and environment, but only you can fulfill that role. Being a woman means we can be a mom, wife, sister, friend, daughter, leader, doctor, lawyer, scientist, influencer writer, domestic engineer, anything. Just stay out of our uterus and we are what we are called to be, priceless.”

Key Takeaways in This Episode:

• The Top 2 Assignments we are given as mothers.
• Recapping some incredible motherhood journeys from previous guests.
• The Extra Assignment of being a single mother, special needs mother and a Black Mother.
• A special thank you for an incredible season 1.

Episodes Mentioned in the show:

episode 8, The psychology of wellness with Dr. Shawn Hondorp talked about loss which many of us have experienced.

In episode 3 Get Present and Decrease Overwhelm with Dr. Sumer Ledet, which was my very first interview on this show and it was a fun one. Dr. Ledet talked about experiencing pregnancy soon after marriage and also going through a loss but not of her own, but having empathy for her best friend who was mourning. Which had a tremendous impact on her.

In episode 19 How to become stronger financially with Mernie Mendoza, she invited us into how she found a career she loves working alongside her own mother, how she and her husband are raising children with a multicultural background.

In episode 5 “Talking Health with Dominique Brittain” Dominique shared her journey of raising a blended family while also being diagnosed with MS. She also shared what it is like being a Black Woman going through the birth process and being ignored by the health system.

in Episode 10, I talked with Maggie Campbell who became a warrior while fighting a rare disease and also had two children during this time.

In episode 13, Jackie Dunlap shares how her journey began as a teen mother and how she beat the odds and became the woman she is today running a successful business, while raising 7 children and also going through the process of divorce.

In episode 26 I was able to interview a new author Amy Mclaren who teaches us how to find our passion and turn it into purpose. Her passion led her through the adoption journey.

The Assignment, Relationships Part 1

The Assignment, Relationships Part 1

I started a new relationship, no not with another person.. with myself! Going back to the previous episode in introducing “the Assignment.” I introduced the assignment of womanhood. What it means to be a woman. I said that our assignment as a woman can be whatever we want it to be. That’s the truth. We are not limited to anything if we have the desire. The thing about having the assignment as a woman though is, it is not our identity. Our identity is forming our own beliefs, values, personalities, and opinions.

In this episode I want to discuss relationships and how the assignment of having relationships shape/influence our lives.

Key Takeaways;

• Listener Shout Outs
• The first relationship we need to have is with ourselves.
• Before we get involved with another person, we have a purpose.
• Another relationship we are assigned to cultivate and have are friendships.
• Who are you? What do you want? What are the habits you have? Do you have non-negotiables? What are your values that can’t be compromised?
• Health Benefits of Strong Relationships-Harvard Health Article

I would love to carry on this conversation in the

The Assignment, Womanhood

The Assignment, Womanhood

I wanted to start a new series called "The Assignment" to finish out the year. If you are listening later on, it's okay. It's still relevant. Before I get into the series and what it entails, I want to tell you about when I was reading my new Bible, the TD Jakes Woman, thou art loosed edition. I bought this at the Woman Evolve Exhale 21' conference, which was hosted at The Potter's House, Dallas.

I came across a page in the Bible called "Only You." It is a reference to Ephesians 2:10.

Stay with me here because this message applies to all women. No matter what your beliefs are, I want to read it to you.

Key Takeaways:

• You are unique!
• You are priceless!
• What assignment means.
• Different doesn't mean less than or more than, just different.

In this series we will dive into the assignment of being a spouse, mother, friend and leader.

Who Are You?

Who Are You?

I knew I was being to called to lead but I didn't know in what capacity. I didn't know if it was to lead a family, a business, community or women. I decided to start this podcast because I knew I wanted to assist other moms in creating an intentional life so they can live up to their full potential and what God has instilled in them as their calling and their purpose.

But who are you? What is your identity?

Something shifted in me when I took a girls trip to Dallas Texas for a weekend church conference, Woman Evolve 21 led by Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts.

I will tell you this, Nedra Glover Tawwab gave an incredible message on having boundaries and the steps to prevent burnout. It reassured me that I am delivering the right messages. I tapped my sister friend and told her, I think I have a podcast episode on that.. look I help so many people I don't remember my own message. That's because the message that I deliver can be different for each person I talk to.

That is a point I want to make about the Visionary Board Workshop, is that yes, you may be in the same virtual experience but you won't have the same guided plan when you leave. What's for you is for you.

Key Takeaways:

• If I asked you, what do you want to be when you grow up, what would you tell me?

• I needed to back up, slow down and guide you through the steps to live an intentional and full life.

Working From Home Tips For Moms

Working From Home Tips For Moms

In the last year moms have been faced with many challenges when it comes to finding the balance of working outside the home and inside the home.
I surveyed moms regarding work and life balance as of right now in the current state we are in. I want to answer the most common questions I received.

1. How do you balance working from home and family?
Time blocking is going to be your friend. Use 3 blocks of time and adjust how many hours you need in each block.
I talked about the SAF model in another episode “Clearing Tolerations and Create work-life balance”

2. How can I manage growing a business and working a full time job? I answer this question in this episode and also recommend going back to listen to my conversation with Jamie Trull.

3. How to find time to spend with family?

4. How do I reach my financial goals in order to support my family?

Well, I love answering questions that you all have for me, I hope that you find these answers helpful. I have more questions that I will answer at a later time as I don’t want to increase the overwhelm with information. If you want to ask questions and want me to answer them on the show here are 2 ways you can do this.

1. Send me a question via email at info@quinnmenier.com
2. if it pertains to work and life balance, complete the survey here and I will be sure to answer your questions.

Netflix's "Maid" Review

Netflix's "Maid" Review

I decided to check out the new limited series on Netflix “Maid.” I typically would just breeze right past shows like this because it looked like it would be a “slow” show where it took a long time to get to the point.

I wrote everything I could to share my thoughts and feelings about the accurate depiction of a single mother, the caregiver role, the human service worker role, domestic violence victim role and the once a recipient of government assistance role.

Key takeaways in this episode;

• What domestic violence is.
• The cycle of government assistance.
• What motherhood is really like and the sacrifices we make.
• Signs of abuse.
• The characters and their role in "Maid"

Overall this was the most relatable show I have seen. Maybe not in every area, but a lot of Alex’s story reminds me of myself and people I have helped and know personally.

What I want you to take away from this episode is that there is help if you are or know someone who is a victim of domestic violence, someone who needs mental health help, someone who needs medical, food, financial, housing, employment and legal assistance.

The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence states; “1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner contact sexual violence, and/or intimate partner stalking with impacts such as injury, fearfulness, post-traumatic stress disorder, use of victim services, contraction of sexually transmitted diseases, etc.” https://ncadv.org/

Reclaiming My Time

Reclaiming My Time

How are you going to show up and schedule time for those things or people you just identified you are grateful for?

I know there are mundane things we have to do, but I bet those things have at least some importance. When I say schedule time for what’s important, I mean, relationships, self-care, family and/or work. We all have 168 hours each week. If you want to be a doer in all the things that are important, and you have even an ounce of faith or belief in doing those things, you have to develop the mindset of I am reclaiming my time!

Getting Back Into A Routine

Getting Back Into A Routine

So getting back into a routine after kind of being all over the place in the last couple of years it seems can be a daunting challenge. It doesn’t have to be. If you had children out of school in the last year and now they are back in school, not only do you have to get back on track of a schedule but they do too, which can cause some push back.

Key Takeaways

• Set a bedtime alarm on your phone. Create the time you will wind down, and the time you will wake. Give yourself at least 7-8 hours of sleep. That's great self care. I don't encourage anything less.
• If you want to hear more about why sleep is important go back to episode 22 with Nisha Kunder about integrating wellness into your routine. I’ll link it in the show notes for you.
• Next, communicate with your family when you are not available, meaning no phone calls after your routine has started, bedtime set for kids, when electronics are off, etc.
• Let everyone know the expected wake up time and departure time if they are leaving the house. If your children stay home, determine what time is focused.
• Give yourself a set block of when the child drop off is , school bus pick up, ECT.

I want to leave you with a recommended book. Atomic Habits by James Clear. (affiliate link to my bookshop, supporting local bookstores at no additional cost to you). It’s one of my favorites and if you are like me and like to establish healthy habits and routines, this is the book for you my friend.

How To Find Your Passion and Purpose with Amy McLaren

I had the pleasure of sitting down to chat with Amy McLaren about her debut book “Passion To Purpose” A seven Step Journey to Shed Self Doubt, Find Inspiration, and Change Your Life (and the world) for the better. Our conversation was informative of how she created a life she loved just by following her passion for travel and giving back internationally. I just loved this book. I consider it my new handbook in using the practical tips and tools outlined throughout this book.

Amy’s Book was endorsed by Amy Porterfield, Michael Hyatt, Russell Brunson Kris Carr, and Kate Northrup among others.

Some Key Takeaways from our chat.

• Who is Amy McLaren? Amy has been married to her Husband Stu McLaren for 15 years and they have 2 children, Marla and Sam.
• Amy’s Motherhood journey broken down into stages; Avoidance, Fear, Uncomfortableness, Acceptance, and Guilt.
• Amy’s new book Passion to Purpose is out and it is an amazing 7-step journey to shed self-doubt, find inspiration, and change your life and the world for the better. Amy defines what passion means to her and how she defines passion.
• Amy’s charity Village Impact and how she incorporated her love of travel into building 14 schools in rural Kenya and now building her 15th school which the proceeds of her book Passion to Purpose are 100% being used to build an all girls school.
• I read an excerpt from Amy’s book “Passion To Purpose” and she shares her last words of wisdom for the listeners in going from passion to purpose?
