412: 5 Steps to Overcome Food Obsession

412: 5 Steps to Overcome Food Obsession

Social media has caused us to become obsessed with eating the right way. I wholeheartedly believe that social media is one of the main causes of our obsession with food, nutrition and wellness. And you may feel that you have to be obsessed with food in order to be healthy.

But there is a better way. In today’s episode I’m going to share 5 steps to overcome food (and wellness) obsession. Listen to today’s episode to learn those 5 steps!

If you missed this winter enrollment for Food & Body Peace Playbook, I want to let you know that it’s not too late to receive support, in fact we are currently open and taking March clients for private coaching at our practice.

Private coaching is the highest level of care we offer at Nourishing Minds Nutrition, and is certainly the fastest way to reach your goals of food and body peace, leaving food (and wellness) obsession behind in 2023.

You may know that we offer 3 and 6 month packages for private coaching, but you may not know that we also offer breakthrough sessions.

These are individual 75 minute sessions where you can meet with one of the dietitians at NMN, and create an individualized plan based off your history and goals. These breakthrough sessions are a perfect fit if you just want a single meeting to get you on the right track, OR if you are interested in a 3 or 6 month package, but want to feel out what a coaching session feels like before moving on to a package.

410: What Exactly is Binge Eating?

410: What Exactly is Binge Eating?

Here are some statistics you may have not known about binge eating:

    • Binge eating disorder is more than three times more common than anorexia and bulimia combined.
    • Research estimates that only  28.4% of people with current BED are receiving treatment for their disorder
    • And also… Three out of ten individuals looking for weight loss treatments show signs of BED.

I wanted to record this episode because I feel like binge eating has become a term thrown out a lot, often used by people to emphasize how much they ate. Some of these people have BED, some of them experience episodes of binge eating and some do not binge eating in any way, it’s more so used to emphasize that they ate more than their norm or more than they are comfortable with.

Listen to today’s episode to learn more about what exactly is binge eaitng. And next week we will dig in even more with 5 steps to stop binge eating!

And if you are someone who is currently struggling with the diet-binge cycle or food obsession, I want you to know you deserve support and healing now.

And I’d love to invite you to join our winter cohort of Food & Body Peace Playbook to get you that support and healing.

407: Best of: New Year's Resolutions are Perfectionist Fantasies with Kara Loewentheil

Our next free training is here! Join me this Thursday at 7pm ET/6pm CT/5pm MT/4pm PT for our New Year, Non-Diet Me Training where I’ll teach you 3 tools to enhance your health through a non-diet lens, how to move on from binge eating and food obsession, and why intuitive eating is the solution you’re looking for.

Plus, I’ll teach you 5 steps to confidently become an intuitive eater in 2023 and all about our group coaching program, Food & Body Peace Playbook, that will open for our winter cohort so soon! Click here to grab your ticket!

My fellow recovering perfectionists, you are going to love today’s conversation, with guest Kara Loewentheil, about how to truly create self confidence by rewiring your brain and thoughts, and letting go of perfectionist fantasies around New Year's resolutions.

Kara Loewentheil, J.D., is a Master Certified Coach, Host of the top-rated podcast UnF*ck Your Brain, and creator of The Clutch: A feminist mindset revolution. A graduate of Yale College and Harvard Law School, she did what every Ivy League feminist lawyer should do: Quit a prestigious academic career to become a life coach! Her Jewish parents have almost recovered; the fact that she built her business from zero to seven figures in three years didn't hurt. Five years after leaving the law she has taught thousands of women how to identify the ways that sexist socialization impacts their brains, and how to literally rewire their thought patterns to create true authentic confidence from within.

    In this episode we discuss:

    • Kara’s journey from lawyer to becoming a master certified coach and starting her own business, podcast and coaching community.
    • How thoughts create our feelings and impact our actions, and how to use the thought ladder to positively change this.
    • New Year’s Resolutions: Are they good goals or perfectionist fantasies?
    • Three “women’s empowerment” sayings that actually do a disservice for us in truly being empowered as women.
    • What it truly takes to accept and love your body at any size.
    • How to work towards neutral beliefs about your body to help change your body image.
    • Kara shares about her amazing podcast, U****k Your Brain, and her coaching community, the Clutch.
    • How Kara practices wellness without obsession.

401: Release the All or Nothing Mentality with Holiday Food

401: Release the All or Nothing Mentality with Holiday Food

Since I know this is a time of year that our clients really struggle with food guilt, trying to avoid all the holiday food but then end up eating all the Christmas cookies when no one is around, I wanted to help you through these unique challenges.

I think we can all agree that there’s more “off limits food” around this time of the year more than any other time. And maybe it’s the prolonged time frame that messes with us too- from Halloween to New Years, this tends to be a time where people feel like there’s no point to “try” so they give up on their diets or eating healthy with the resolve that they will just start over in the New Year.

But this mindset is caused from the all or nothing mentality. So in today’s episode I explain what exactly is the all or nothing mentality, different ways it shows up in our relationship with food, especially during the holiday season, and two easy ways to challenge it over the next month.

If you are ready to let go of the all or nothing mentality around food, to make peace with your body and discover health that promotes physical and mental well-being, you can join our winter cohort of Food & Body Peace Playbook. By doing so, you’ll feel confident that you are entering into the New Year with a plan for how to transform your relationship with food and your body, so that you are unrecognizable this time next year. Standard and VIP options available this round!

If you are interested in private coaching, the holiday season and beginning of the New Year is always a busy time of the year for our practice. If you’re looking to receive the highest level of care we offer at NMN, reach out now to guarantee you can get started before March of 2023.

398: Are Seed Oils Really Inflammatory?

398: Are Seed Oils Really Inflammatory?

Are seed oils REALLY inflammatory? If you are just the slightest bit interested in health, wanting to eat to feel your best, you must have had this thought before, haven’t you?

In today’s episode, I hope to clear some of the air and give you an honest perspective.

When discussing these oils, we are talking about Canola (rapeseed), corn, cottonseed, grapeseed, rice bran, safflower, soy, and sunflower oils. These are what’s called “the hateful “ by some, Even if you don’t purchase these oils and cook with them at home, other places you may possibly consume them are when eating out (restaurants, fast food, pre-made food from stores) or packaged foods and snacks and some baked goods.

Seed oils have a mix of unsaturated and saturated fats and a mix of Omega 6s and Omega 3s. Overall, they fall into the category of polyunsaturated and they are higher in Omega 6s than saturated fats.

Will talk about the claims about seed oils in this episode, and whether or not they are true. Listen to today’s episode to learn more!
