354. Signy Karoline Kolsto on her OCRWC Weekend and Winning the 100 Meter Course!

We wanted to have at least one more episode on the OCRWC weekend and we were hoping to have an athlete on the show representing Europe (since there weren't as many as previous years)!

Signy Karoline Kolsto is from Norway and has somewhat recently made the jump from age group to elite after having pretty impressive results quickly in the sport. She was in Belgium to compete in the first FISO OCR World Championships but we primarily focus on Spartan Race's OCRWC. She took 7th in the 3K, 5th in the 15K, her coed team took 2nd on the relay, and then she closed out the weekend by winning the 100 meter course!

353. Ian Hosek on FISO OCR World Championships, OCRWC, and Tough Mudder Saudi Arabia Morality!

In the year where there are two OCRWCs I figured it would be great to hear from someone who went to compete in both of them!

Ian Hosek has been a prominent member of USAOCR for a while now and he made the trip over to Belgium to compete in the first FISO OCR World Championships. More recently he competed in Spartan Race's OCRWC (man that's going to take some adjusting to) and took 2nd in the 3K, 2nd in the 15K, his men's relay team took 1st, and his coed team also took 1st!

We talk about the differences between the two events, how he feels about his recent success in Mammoth Lakes, his feelings on the Tough Mudder Infinity in Saudi Arabia, and much more!

352. Spartan Race's Acquisition of OCRWC with Adrian Bijanada!

This year may have had FISO's first OCR World Championships but we still love Adventurey's weekend long OCRWC event as well! The past couple of years we have had an episode before the event as a way to build up more anticipation for it, 2021 we had Veejay Jones on the show before event weekend, and last year we had Fran Chiorando on!

Of course there was the news that came out about Spartan Race's aquisition of the event so we figured that Adrian Bijanada would be great to both answer community questions and build some excitement up for what will assuredly be an excellent weekend!

We discuss what brought about this change, his role in the event weekend moving forward, the history of water obstacles in Adventurey's previous events, and much more!

351. FISO OCR World Championships with Short Course Champion Gian Maria Savani!

Admittedly, we were unsure how the first FISO OCR Championships would go after their history of not being able to put on a world championship event for years. That being said the number of incredible athletes that showed up to Belgium to compete made this an incredible World Championship event!

When looking through the results Gian Maria Savani stood out as both the winner of the short course, runner up of the standard course, and an athlete that we didn't know as much about. We reached out to have him on the show to hear more about him and were thrilled to have him as this week's guest!

We discussed how he got into obstacle course racing, which athletes he looks up to, the importance of discipline, and how his races went. We also discuss some shortcomings of this event such as the overly complicated rule book, the continued lack of communication with prize money, there not being any drug testing, and

350. Dustin Dorough on Early Days of OCR, Mental Health, a European Motorcycle Adventure, and More!

Many of the OCR community from back in the day remember Dustin Dorough! Fast talker, excellent motivational speeches, and tearaway shorts ring a bell? He's worked for Spartan Race, Terrain Race, Bonefrog, and more over the years so we start off briefly touching on his history in OCR. For more of an in depth discussion though we recommend OCRWC Podcast's episode with him here!

Much more recently Dustin completed an epic adventure journeying from the United Kingdom to Iraq on his motorcyle for a bunch of reasons! These ranged from getting attention from the Dakar Rally community, seeing a friend, and more!

We also have discussions about mental health since he has been very involved with helping many people over the years, is proudly neurodivergent, and he has had quite the near death experience.

349. Savanna Salinas on Ninja, Staying Humble, and Winning Spartan Kid's World Championships!

Spartan Race had their Kids World Championship in the Bahamas this year but there didn't seem to be much talk about it. Athletes regardless of their age work hard to do what they do so we reached out to one of the winners of the weekend!

Savanna Salinas won for the girls 12-14 age group and has a pretty impressive background in ninja! She completed her first half marathon at the age of 6 and her first triathalon at the age of 5! Despite these extensive accomplishments she remains humble and we were more than happy to have her on the show to talk about it!

This weekend saw the return of Bonefrog and we wanted to hear more about it! The winner for the women was Melia Ochsner so we quickly reached out to her!

Lisa Musacchio is a name that has been mentioned on the show often when reviewing podiums in our quick news segment!

We only more recently noticed just how dominant she has been with her winning the Palmerton Spartan Super and Sprint, Asheville Spartan Super and Sprint, as well as the West Virginia Spartan Beast all in the past couple months!

Another episode giving some well deserved love to The Grit Games! Last episode we had Kris Rugloski on the show to talk about her experience and history with this event.

Austin Azar is an athlete that we have only met a couple of times and somehow only once on the show at OCRWC for episode 300 but we have heard great things about him over the years.

We discuss his recent victory at The Grit Games, his experience at the Spartan 3K in Palmerton, being one of the few athletes to reach 100 miles at WTM back in the day, what. he does for work, and more!

The Grit Games just had their 6th event and this year it got a lot more eyes on it than in the past due to the increase in prize money, a stacked field of athletes, and the ability to watch the event via a live stream!

Kris Rugloski has participated in each and every one of their events and has been crowned the champion every time. The additional competition this year didn't do anything to change it this year as she finished with a perfect score of 400!

344. Angel Quintero on the Competitive Field in OCR, Glory Days of the Sport, and Pan American Championship!

Spartan didn't build much hype up around it, but the Spartan Pan American Championship was this weekend down in Mexico!

We invited Angel Quintero to be our guest on the show as the second place finisher in the 3K and the winner of the Beast the following day. There was a lot of talk about the lack of competition in Mexico but I wanted to have the chance to have Angel on the podcast to explain his thoughts on it!

We discuss his background in the sport, the races that meant the most to him over the years, his thoughts on the state of the sport now, hopes for the future of OCR, and of course his very successful weekend!

We had MudGear-Hannibal Race Pro Team member Rachel Watters on the show for her own episode!

We have heard great things about Rachel for a while before we had the opportunity to finally meet her in person when covering RuckFest in person last year!

There was no shortage of things to talk to her about but we primarily focus on her trip to Kuwait for Hannibal Race, her 105 mile OCR challenge done to fundraise for Lionheart Fitness, her experience at the Chicago Savage Series Race where she placed 3rd bumping her up to 4th on the overall leaderboard, as well as a discussion on mental health!

340. Save Monadnock Ninja with James Golisano!

A couple weeks ago we mentioned it on quick news but since James Golisano is a good friend of the show we figured we would have him on to talk about his Go Fund Me. This isn't something we do often but we figured that it'd be a good way and try to help!

James opened up Monadnock Ninja back in 2020 and helped form a local community of youth ninjas. With very little notice he was told that the building that he had been renting was going to be sold so him and his equiptment don't really have anywhere to go.

While the goal of the Go Fund Me is pretty large, I'm sure he would appreciate whatever could be given in order to help get this community back on their feet so they can continue their fun fitness.

338. Kaci Monroe on Grit, Spartan Race Changes, and Savage Race Ohio!

We had Kaci Monroe on the show to talk about her previous experience with Spartan Race, her recent podium at a Savage Point Series Race, and much more!

Kaci is someone who we have wanted to have on the show for a few years now. We are a weekly show so there are only 52 episodes in a year which sounds like a lot but isn't that many when you see how we plan out our year of coverage with all the events we cover.

We had a weekend prepared for a Savage Ohio finisher and Kaci placed 2nd which is her highest placement so far and a huge improvement from her DNF when she first took on Savage Race earlier this year!

337. OCR European Championships with Jesse de Heer!

Last weekend was massive for the sport of OCR in Europe! There was both Spartan European Championship as well as OCR European Championships. We followed the latter more closely and were excited to find a guest to come on the show and talk about it.

Jesse de Heer finished first for the short course, second on the standard course, and his team Hang On placed first for the men's relay race! Having a pretty excellent finish in all events we figured that he would be a great guest to have on the show to talk about their events!

We discuss the 3 band penalty system used, how it felt to take second to a teammate, strengths and weaknesses of European OCR, an overly complicated rule book, the seperation of Spartan and other OCR athletes, and much more!

336. Annie Dube on Making the Jump to Elite, Spartan 3K Thoughts, and Her First Savage Race!

Annie Dube was frequently found on the podium in some pretty big events, and is still a member of the OCR Dream Team. Unfortunately with Spartan Race drastically changing the format of their series we have been robbed from seeing her and many other athletes compete lately.

She did jump into her first Savage Race in Charlotte, NC last weekend and won by about 8 minutes so we had her on to discuss her experience with a different race series. We also talk about when athletes should make the decision to jump up to elite from age group, how the OCR Dream Team is still figuring out their future, and what other events she plans to do this year!
