Going back towards the beginning of the sport Rose Wetzel was often seen on the podiums, fast forward a decade to now and Rose continues to be competitive in the elite field!

We have had her on the show a few times before for NorAM and OCRWC finish line interviews but it's easy to say that she very much deserved her own episode!

333. Maryland Savage Point Series Race with Jordan McDougal!

This was a huge weekend for elite OCR athletes! Savage Race Maryland (live stream here) and Spartan Big Bear 3K (live stream here) both happened, and there was no shortage of athletes to talk to.

This week we decided to have Jordan McDougal on the show to talk about his experience at the Maryland Savage Race which is the third of their point series!

Jordan is someone whose name we recognized from reading podiums over the years and we were grateful to have him on the show to learn more about him. He is a family man who puts his wife and kids ahead of his training for the sport which is something we can appreciate. He also put together the McDougal Obstacle Lab for his kids to play around on and practice a sport modeled by their father!

332. USAOCR with Ian Hosek!

There has been a big charge by USAOCR in getting a team together for the potential World Obstacle Championship being put on in Belgium later this year! Due to this, they reached out asking to come on the show and talk about it.

As media we try to stay up to date with what is going on in our niche sport. Unfortunately USAOCR has been a bit of a blind spot in our knowledge so this was a helpful interview with Ian Hosek for ourselves as well in learning what is going on, why it's happening, and the overall changes that USAOCR has made to fix their reputation and begin laying down a better foundation for the sport moving forward.

331. Cairn University's Highlander Mudder with Dave Willard!

Katelyn and I (Mike) first got into OCR back when we were in college and would have loved an event on our campus! That's what Cairn University is doing with their Highlander Mudder event that they had a couple weekends ago.

We reached out to Dave Willard who is the Director of Partnerships for the college and who helped put the event together. We discuss what they learned about event planning when it comes to OCR, where they got their scoring system from, thoughts on the future of the event and much more!

330. Tri-State Spartan Super and More with Chris Marrone!

This weekend was New Jersey's Spartan Tri-State weekend!

Mike inititally didn't recognize many of the names of the athletes on the podium from Saturday's Spartan Super but then realized that the first place finisher Chris Marrone was the winner of the Spartan 3K test event in Jacksonville!

He was brought up during two recent interviews (our episode with Brett Milks on that test event as well as last episode with Adam Beach) so I had a feeling he would be someone we should have on the show!

Hear about Chris's experience winning the Tri-State Spartan Super, his thoughts on the 3K format, other of his favorite races, and the changes that he has made in his life to pursue a name for himself as an OCR athlete!

328. The Final FIT Challenge OCR with Elites, Ultras, and More!

FIT Challenge has been putting on obstacle course races since 2013 and we have been to almost every single one of them over the years (we just missed the very first one and the one during the extreme heat wave the summer of 2019)!

Unfortunately that all comes to an end after this past weekend since it was their final event. It is the death of the most important New England local OCR that we have had and it also has some backing of that fact with it winning the best small OCR event just about every year that it has been a category.

All that being said I tried to get as much content as I could, to try and give FIT Challenge the send off that it deserves! You'll hear from those competing in the elite wave, regular open wavers, ultra athletes, and everything in between!

The second Savage Point Series race happened this weekend, if you missed it then watch the live stream here!

We had Ryan Kempson reach out to us about wanting to come on the show and then realized that despite him being featured in 11 different episodes with in person interviews, he has never had an episode of his own! We have been big fans of both Kempson brothers with them being from New England and genuinely being down to earth people so this is making up for lost time.

236. Des Linden and Her New Book "Choosing to Run"!

A few months ago we mentioned Des Linden's book "Choosing to Run" being available on preorder in quick news. We were sent an advanced copy of the book back in February and we really enjoyed it!

We were also given the chance to have Des on the show to talk about it. This is technically our second time having her on the show but last time was just for a few minutes when we covered the Falmouth Road Race.

This time we talk about her feelings of having the book being ready to be sent to the masses, what makes a good coach both in sport and life, her experience returning to the Boston course after the bombing, thoughts on food as fuel, music, and much more!

With the second ever Savage Race Point Series having its start right around the corner we wanted to have a member of the event team to build up some anticipation for it!

Luckily Lee Stowell was the man for the job! We talk about his background in the sport (which involves working for Battlefrog, Bonefrog, and even Frontline OCR), the changes made to the point series, how the team is dealing with criticism on their new obstacles, the balance of course difficulty, plans for the future, and much much more!

We are really looking forward to seeing which athletes show up to compete in this! We have plans to have a few episodes dedicated to hearing from some of the podium finishers throughout the year!

322. Spartan 3K Test Event in Jacksonville with Brett Milks!

We had friend and Patreon supporter of the show Brett Milks on to talk about his experience at the Spartan 3K test event that was held in Jacksonville, Florida!

The change of the Spartan series to the 3K format brings a lot of additional changes other than the race distance. There is also a laser pistol obstacle, the events are planned for Fridays, and the prize money has been noticeably cut (the last change was released after the interview).

We talk about Brett's thoughts on these changes, how the event was run, which athletes would potentially be good for this new event, and much more!
