When Tala Raassi was 16 years old she was arrested by Iran’s morality police for attending a co-ed party and wearing a mini skirt. Her sentence: 40 lashes after spending 5 excruciating days in jail. It was a night that changed her life forever and eventually led to her using her love for fashion to find freedom. After moving to the US she became a fashion designer, even the official swimwear maker for the Miss Universe pageant at one point. Knowing the risks involved she has continued to share her story and speak out against the Iranian government and their treatment of women as second class citizens. With the current uprising following Mahsa Amini’s death Tala says there’s no turning back now. She believes the Iran revolution unfolding now is unlike any before and could spark real changed. 

In our conversation, Tala bravely shares her personal story along with why it’s so important that citizens and journalists everywhere continue to share what is happening in Iran. As protests continue to grow, so does the government’s brutal crackdown.

This week my colleague at FOX5 DC, Iranian-American news anchor Shirin Rajaee joins me for an open conversation of what it’s been like watching the unrest fold in Iran and around the globe. Shirin who was born Iran shares how the country we see today was not the Iran her parents and so many before her once knew. 

We also discuss why the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini who died while in the custody of Iran's "morality police" was a tipping point for the younger generation. Almost two months after Amini's death the outrage and protests continue to grow. 

At the heart of the protests are women, young women and girls. Those who’ve grown up in Iran or have followed the politics of the country say it’s unlike anything they have ever seen.  As the Islamic Republic faces one of the biggest shows of dissent in recent history it’s a fight that the Iranian people cannot win alone. We explore the three words that are resonating across the globe: Women, Life, Freedom and why human rights in Iran is a win for democracy worldwide.

We discuss how this time is different and what Americans can do to show support.

This month General John W. "Jay" Raymond the first chief of space operations for Space Force retired. General Raymond was the head of Space Force the military's newest branch established in 2019. Before retiring, General Raymond joined Angie to chat about everything from a little Clemson- South Carolina rivalry, his past 38.5 years serving, the biggest threats in Space and why we all should care. 

General Raymond shares his family's storied military and space history along with some of the best advice he's followed his entire career.

It’s 1969, the year of America’s historic moon landing. It’s also a time of transition for the country with the civil rights movement in full swing.
