Songs That Changed Music: Gary Numan - Cars

In the 1980s, the futuristic sounds of synthesizers and electronic instruments were everywhere, but only a few years before (in the late seventies) punk music had been dominating the popular music scene with its aggressive, DIY, guitar driven sounds. Songs That Changed Music: The Godfather of SOUL - James Brown

Songs That Changed Music: The Godfather of SOUL - James Brown

James Brown was called “the Godfather of Soul,” “Soul Brother No. 1,” “Mr. Dynamite,” and “the Minister of Super Heavy Funk.” He was also known as “the hardest working man in show business,” and “King of the One-Nighters,” because at one time he performed as many as 350 gigs a year.

All these titles illustrate Brown’s importance as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. He invented funk, which did not only become a genre in its own right, but also a crucial influence on rock, soul, pop, hip-hop, and African and Latin American music, and so on.

Warren Huart's book TELLS ALL | BMT Podcast Ep. 09

In the podcast, Steele highlights Warren’s unconventional path to success. Unlike many Producers who wants to share his knowledge on YouTube, Warren came into the platform as a businessman with an already established working business. He explains that he initially started his YouTube channel to showcase his expertise and promote his production company, rather than as a full-time career mostly educating people.

Marc Daniel Nelson Grills Warren Huart - The Interview

If you’re interested in recording music, whether as a hobby or professionally, you might want to check out Warren Huart and Jerry Hammack’s new book, “Home Studio Recordings: The Complete Guide.” In this interview with Marc Daniel Nelson, Warren Huart discusses the book and his journey in the music industry.

Marc and Warren began by discussing the benefits of having a handbook for learning about music, in addition to videos. Warren explained that while videos can be helpful, they often only scratch the surface of the topic. A book, on the other hand, can go into much greater detail and offer a more comprehensive understanding of the subject.

Songs that Changed Music: Alanis Morissette – You Oughta Know

Songs that Changed Music: Alanis Morissette – You Oughta Know

The start of the 90s saw an ongoing tension between edgy – often dark – hard-rocking sounds, and the brighter, mainstream pop aesthetic. Industry expectations and marketing placed most female artists in the latter of these categories. But along came Alanis Morisette – confessional in her writing, raw in her authenticity; she not only changed the game for female artists, but also revolutionized a new post-grunge, hard-rocking sound. Coupling her experiences as a successful teen-idol with a deep desire to experience her own uncompromising artistic vision, she released one of the best selling albums of all time, Jagged Little Pill. The iconic 1995 album was announced with its revolutionary lead single – “You Oughta Know”

Songs That Changed Music: Pump It Up - Elvis Costello and The Attractions featuring Pete Thomas

Songs That Changed Music: Pump It Up - Elvis Costello and The Attractions featuring Pete Thomas

Rock and Roll is often associated with excess; and by the end of the seventies, this image was clearly in the air. Even the outsider, cool young artists of Stiff Records found themselves lured into its temptations. In the midst of Punk’s musical revolution in England, stripping rock down its barest essentials and attitudes, a young Elvis Costello stepped into the spotlight with his own ironic take on rock and roll indulgence – “Pump It Up” – and in doing so, kicked off his own musical revolution; on which would take the form of New Wave and carry across the following decade.
