    122. Inside the Troubled Teen Treatment Industry

Join Elaine Walters as she recounts her journey within the controversial Straight Incorporated, a program claiming to reform teenage drug users through tough love and AA principles. However, the reality was starkly different: with no professional counseling, Straight Incorporated relied on coercive tactics, peer pressure, and mind control to recondition its participants. Elaine sheds light on the absence of adult supervision, the program's detrimental effects, and her struggle with misdiagnosis and overmedication within the psychiatric system.

    121. History & Untold Harms of Hormonal Birth Control w/ Mike Gaskins

Approximately 10.2 million women in the United States are presently utilizing oral contraceptives. However, there is limited awareness regarding the history of these medications' approval and a tendency to underestimate their potential risks. Mike Gaskins, an author and media producer, embarked on his path as a women's health advocate following an encounter with a renowned physician who misled him about the side effects of birth control. This serendipitous meeting ignited Mike's dedication to conducting thorough research, through which he uncovered numerous instances of deception and dissemination of inaccurate information surrounding these powerful medications.

He frequently writes for a number of websites, and his book, In the Name of The Pill, explores the dubious nature of both the history and science of hormonal birth control.

(With New Commentary) 22. Are we in a Mass Formation Psychosis?

Buckle up for a time warp! Dr. Roger McFillin and Sean revisit a January 21, 2022 episode, adding fresh insights and perspectives along the way.

    —-------

Throughout history there are examples of communities, regions and even entire countries acting irrationally towards a perceived adversary. And sometimes that “adversary” is not a physical presence, but simply an idea, or the threat of an occurrence. Examples such as the Salem Witch Trials, the Dancing Mania, and Nazi Germany often leave us asking the question, “How did this happen?”

The phenomenon of Mass Formation Psychosis has been applied as a possible explanation. In September 2021, a professor of clinical psychology at Ghent University in Belgium suggested Mass Formation as a possible explanation for the global response around the Covid pandemic.

At the start of January 2022, Dr. Robert Malone shared this topic on the Joe Rogan Podcast, effectively becoming the most memorable part of their 3 hour conversation. Thus the need for more education on this psychological phenomenon.

On today’s podcast Roger, Kelly and Sean discuss Mass Formation Psychosis.

    42. Antidepressant induced homicide (Rebroadcast)

In 2011, a paper was published in Pharmacogenomics and Personalized Medicine examining the relationship of antidepressants and akathisia side effects in those with genetic mutations in the metabolizing genes of the CYP450 family. In the study, eight of the subjects had committed homicide and many more became extremely violent while on antidepressants.

On today’s podcast we welcome one of the co-authors, Christopher Crotty, and subject, David Carmichael, to share their stories.

    114. How lies become truth

    114. How lies become truth

The power of repetition is undeniable. A lie, repeated often enough, can become the accepted truth. This "illusion of truth effect" applies to all areas of life, including healthcare. In the case of medications like SSRIs and SNRIs, which are commonly prescribed for depression and anxiety, the illusion of truth can have serious consequences.

The illusion of truth can lead patients to underestimate risks. They may see these medications advertised as safe and effective, without fully understanding the potential downsides. This can lead them to blindly accept the doctor's recommendations without questioning or seeking further information. Don't let the illusion of truth cloud your judgment—ask questions. This is where informed consent becomes crucial.

    113. When the Doctor Becomes the Patient w/ Dr. Kristin Reihman

In this compelling podcast episode, we spoke with  Kristin Reihman, MD — physician, mother, author, and Lyme disease survivor — as she candidly shares her personal journey as both a patient and doctor. Beyond merely treating symptoms, Dr. Reihman advocates for a holistic approach to health, challenging the conventional norms of the allopathic medical system.

Having recovered herself from a debilitating case of Lyme over a decade ago, Dr. Reihman knows all too well what it is to live with a body that feels like it's falling apart, a brain that has forgotten how to do simple math, and the fear that you're going to die from an illness that is invisible to most people. She also knows how to make a complete recovery, and has done that for herself. Now, she is on a mission to help as many people as possible recover their own most vibrant versions of themselves, and get back to living their amazing lives. She shares her favorite tools, practices, and mindset shifts for whole-person healing and wellness in her book, on weekly episodes of her Healing Grove Podcast, and in the online communities she cultivates, including the Healing Grove Membership, on Instagram, and in her latest offering, the Life After Lyme Coaching Program.

We delve into the intricacies of American physicians' training, highlighting the need for a more comprehensive understanding of health. Dr. Kristin Reihman's story takes an unexpected turn as she shares her principled decision to leave a local hospital network and traditional practice due to her stance against a mandatory vaccine. This bold move becomes the focal point of our conversation, sparking reflections on values, medical freedom and divine intervention.

    111. The Medicalization of the Human Condition w/ Brett Deacon, PhD

The biomedical model views mental disorders as brain diseases and emphasizes pharmacological treatments to address presumed biological abnormalities. This biologically focused approach has dominated the American healthcare system for decades, leading to an increase in psychiatric medication use and a perception of mental disorders as brain diseases caused by chemical imbalances.

Brett Deacon serves as an Associate Professor and Program Convener for Clinical Psychology at the University of Melbourne, Australia. His academic journey includes obtaining a PhD in clinical psychology from Northern Illinois University, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. Over the past 15 years, he has contributed to academia and dedicated five years to full-time private practice.

With expertise in two key areas, Brett is recognized for his proficiency in exposure therapy for anxiety. Notably, he co-authored the book "Exposure Therapy for Anxiety: Principles and Practice" (2nd edition), published by Guilford Press in 2019. His second area of focus revolves around critiquing psychiatry's biomedical model of "mental illness." His research encompasses the efficacy of antidepressants, publication bias in antidepressant trials, the impact of perceiving depressive experiences through a biomedical lens, and the validity and societal implications of the biomedical model.

Video: 5 Principles to Protect Young People from Mental Health Indoctrination

    1. Normalize life challenges: Life is difficult, and it's important to teach young people that it's okay to struggle. Focus on problem-solving and coping skills, rather than pathologizing normal emotions.

    2. Encourage engagement and activity: Encourage young people to get involved in activities that they enjoy and that connect them to others. This could include sports, arts, community groups, or volunteering.

    3. Focus on distress tolerance: Build up young people's ability to handle difficult emotions and situations. This will help them to develop resilience and cope with adversity.

    4. Communicate purpose and meaning: Help young people to find purpose and meaning in their lives. This could be through their relationships, their work, or their hobbies.

    5. Remember that everything is temporary: Life is constantly changing, and both good and bad times are temporary. Encourage young people to live in the present moment and to embrace whatever life brings.
