    102. Cracking the Happiness Code

    102. Cracking the Happiness Code

In this podcast episode, we discuss the intricate nature of happiness. Although we may grapple with the challenge of defining happiness, we can easily describe moments when we're not happy, which can lead to emotional struggles or even depression. But what do we really understand about human happiness? What ignites it within us? Amid these questions, we explore the science that supports happiness and look critically at the "mental health" industry and its promise to guide us on our quest for happiness.

In this podcast episode, we discuss the growing reluctance to fully trust medical professionals, particularly in the realm of pediatrics. Shocking statistics reveal that 40% of school-age children grapple with chronic health conditions. Compounding the concerns, a significant 13% of teenagers are now relying on psychiatric medications. Join us as we sit down with Dr. Adrian Gaty, a practicing pediatrician based in Texas and a contributor to prominent platforms like the Federalist and his substack "Unofficial Pediatrics." Together, we explore whether modern pediatric care is influenced by compromised standards or remains rooted in independent medical practice.

    96. BREAKING: Schools pilot Mental Health Apps behind Parents' backs

Mental health apps are being introduced with the goal of addressing underdiagnosed and undertreated psychiatric disorders using AI technologies. Kooth U.S. and the Pennsylvania state Department of Human Services signed a $3 million grant to pilot a digital mental health platform in 30 school districts. The platform offers anonymous message boards, online chatting, a personalized library, and journaling options for students in grades 6 to 12. However, concerns have been raised regarding the potential risks of children communicating with unknown Kooth team members on the platform without parental consent.

    92. ADHD: Pills, Profits, and Pushback w/ Gretchen LeFever Watson PhD

Gretchen LeFever Watson, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist whose research and intervention projects have received international scholarly and media attention, including appearances on TV and radio programs. Dr. Watson was among the first to document drug overtreatment for ADHD in the U.S. and to demonstrate that disruptive conduct can be successfully reduced through school wide behavioral interventions. In her paper, she chronicles the personal and professional attacks she experienced as a result of challenging industry interests. This serves as a testament to the potential hindrance of pioneering research and the adverse effects it can have.
