    River Corner Church

River Corner Church is a growing church community of everyday people who gather to worship God, follow Jesus, and journey through life together.

Our small church community is uniquely caring, simple, laid-back, and intergenerational. As a church, we want to be a welcoming, safe, and healing community for those who are seeking, hurting, or need a place to belong. Our practices are both contemplative (reflective) and charismatic (Spirit-driven), creating an atmosphere that is both conversational and informative. The times we share are intentional and intimate, and a mix between modern and traditional. We want to be a place in which love and honor are lived out, where humility is central, and where hospitality is woven into the threads of our community. There is room at the table.

To the Church: What Does Love Have to Do With It? (1 Thessalonians 3:6-12)

To the Church: What Does Love Have to Do With It? (1 Thessalonians 3:6-12)

On Sunday, October 15, Pastor Jeff McLain continued our To the Church series through 1 Thessalonians, as he looked at 1 Thessalonians 3:6-12 and the message. What Does Love Have to Do With It?  We see that Paul prays for an increased and overflowing love in the Thessalonian Church because love has everything to do with it.

We started this series by looking at Acts 17 and getting an overview of Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonian followers of Jesus.  Though Paul was only with them for three weeks, that church grew to be a strong outpost of the Kingdom of God by the power of the Holy Spirit. Despite the persecution, cultural problems, and societal polarization they were facing around them, they were able to hold on to their faith in remarkable ways.

Along with Silas and Timothy, Paul wrote this letter to the Thessalonian churches to encourage them to stay focused and true to what God was doing in their midst. Paul also wrote the letter to equip them with mindsets and postures that will help liberate them from the entrapping of their mourning, grief, and suffering. This letter empowers them with principles and priorities to live by as individuals and as a church that will help them to know “how to live in order to please God.”

To The Church: Encouraging, Equipping, Empowering (Acts 17)

To The Church: Encouraging, Equipping, Empowering (Acts 17)

On Sunday, September 3, Pastor Jeff McLain started our series, To the Church, by looking at Acts 17 and beginning to dissect Paul's letter of 1 Thessalonians. Through this series, we find some principles and priorities from Paul that should still empower us today.

Our series, To the Church, will dissect Paul's first letter to the Thessalonian Church. By dissecting 1 Thessalonians we explore ways for the church to be more intentional with our faith, community, and our relationships. Paul's letter will challenge us to invest our efforts strategically, to know our scriptures in a transformative way, and to collaborate with God’s Spirit to bring about great results through small investments. Through the example of Paul and the Thessalonian Church, we will see how proclaiming the good news should be a bold declaration that challenges the status quo of the world. Paul also models a way that of encouraging other churches and missionaries. Living in a world of tension and properity, but with trials, tension and troubles reminds us to be both heavenly minded and earthly good. Despite the inevitable moments of pain, problem, and persecution, we are encouraged to find new ways to come together and grow in our faith.  The Thessalonians had an intense time of persecution, and the letter was meant to help them lose their troubles and focus on their faith. Paul wrote to them to encourage growth, to continue walking with them, and to remind them of the principles that should guide their lives as followers of Jesus. Those same principles should empower us today.

The Time Has Come: The Life of the Spirit Outside the Ring (Mark 11:12-25)

On Sunday, Aug 27, Pastor Jeff finished our series, The Time Has Come, which looked at the life and ministry of Jesus through the lens of Mark. As we looked at Mark 11:12-25, we found the way Jesus cursed the fig tree outside of Jerusalem created the opportunity for Jesus to talk about a Spirit-filled faith, that is fruitful in season and out of season.

In each of these stories told by Mark, we witness Jesus healing, liberating, performing miracles, and claiming authority over the physical, spiritual and natural world. In each encounter, Jesus was bringing the hope of heaven, the rule and reign of God's goodness and good news into the present - to make a difference today. Through each story we see how Jesus was proclaiming that the Kingdom of God had come, into the here and now, not only to make a difference in eternity but also today.

The Time Has Come: Win At Home First (Mark 10:13-16)

The Time Has Come: Win At Home First (Mark 10:13-16)

On Sunday, Aug 13, Pastor Jeff continued our series, The Time Has Come, looking at the life and ministry of Jesus through the lens of Mark. As we looked at Mark 10:13-16, we found the Kingdom of God longs to see a legacy of faith passed on to the next generation.

Mark's narrative on the life, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus starts with Jesus declaring that it was time to change our way of living and to live into the way that the presence, goodness and good news of God (the Kingdom of God) had come tangibly into the present (Mark 1:15). In each of the stories told by Mark, after that proclamation of Jesus, we witness Jesus demonstrating how God's Kingdom was making a difference in their day.

The difference that God's Kingdom makes is more than just getting to go to heaven when we die. Through Jesus' inauguration of the Kingdom of God on earth, God's eternal heaven is now bringing glimpses of God's future restoration into today. In the ministry of Jesus, Mark shows us that Jesus was bringing about God's liberation and healing to demonstrate how God's Kingdom makes a difference today.

Throughout this series, we see what it means to repent and believe that God's transformative hope of heaven is still bringing God's liberation and healing into the present. The time has come to see what it means for us that God's transformative Kingdom longs to work in, with and through us to not only make a difference in eternity but also today.

The Time Has Come: From Mountaintops to Valleys (Mark 9:14-29)

The Time Has Come: From Mountaintops to Valleys (Mark 9:14-29)

On July 30, Pastor Jeff McLain continued our The Time Has Come series through the gospel of Mark, as we looked at the story of a demon possessed boy in Mark 9:14-29. We explored how our mountaintop experiences prepare us for life in the valley, and we also unpacked a posture Jesus models to bring about God's goodness and good news into the present.

The Time Has Come: Sent Out to Liberate (Mark 6:6b-13)

On Sunday, July 16, Pastor Jeff McLain continued our The Time Has Come series through Mark, by looking at Jesus sending out the 12 in Mark 6:6b-13. In looking at this passage, we also see how Jesus sends us out to liberate those around us.

Mark's narrative on the life, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus starts with Jesus declaring that it was time to change our way of living and to live into the way that the presence, goodness and good news of God (the Kingdom of God) had come tangibly into the present (Mark 1:15). The Time Has Come: A Spirit of Offense (Mark 6:1-6)

The Time Has Come: A Spirit of Offense (Mark 6:1-6)

As part of our Sunday morning series through Mark titled The Time Has Come, Pastor Jeff explored Mark 6:1-6 as we looked at the dangers of a Spirit of Offense on July 2. In Mark 6:1-6, Mark recounts a story in which Jesus could not do miracles because of the prevalent spirit of offense adopted by those in Jesus' hometown.

Mark's narrative on the life, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus starts with Jesus declaring that it was time to change our way of living and to live into the way that the presence, goodness and good news of God (the Kingdom of God) had come tangibly into the present (Mark 1:15). The Time Has Come: Fearless Peace (Mark 4:35-41)

On Sunday, June 18, Pastor Jeff continued our series - The Time Has Come - by looking at Mark 4:35-41 in a sermon message titled Fearless Peace, where we looked at how, like the disciples on the stormy sea, when we are overwhelmed we believe a narrative that God does not have our best interest in mind.

Mark's narrative on the life, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus starts with Jesus declaring that it was time to change our way of living and to live into the way that the presence, goodness and good news of God (the Kingdom of God) had come tangibly into the present (Mark 1:15).
