    River Corner Church

River Corner Church is a growing church community of everyday people who gather to worship God, follow Jesus, and journey through life together.

Our small church community is uniquely caring, simple, laid-back, and intergenerational. As a church, we want to be a welcoming, safe, and healing community for those who are seeking, hurting, or need a place to belong. Our practices are both contemplative (reflective) and charismatic (Spirit-driven), creating an atmosphere that is both conversational and informative. The times we share are intentional and intimate, and a mix between modern and traditional. We want to be a place in which love and honor are lived out, where humility is central, and where hospitality is woven into the threads of our community. There is room at the table.

The Time Has Come: The Hindrances of Personal Preferences and Convictions (Mark 2:18-22)

The Time Has Come: The Hindrances of Personal Preferences and Convictions (Mark 2:18-22)

On May 28, Pastor Jeff McLain continued our - The Time Has Come  series -by looking at Mark 2:18-22, and the way our personal preferences and convictions can hinder us from growth and keep us from the new things Jesus longs to bring about.

Mark's narrative on the life, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus starts with Jesus declaring that it was time to change our way of living and to live into the way that the presence, goodness and good news of God (the Kingdom of God) had come tangibly into the present (Mark 1:15). In each of the stories told by Mark, after that proclamation of Jesus, we witness Jesus demonstrating how God's Kingdom was making a difference in their day.

The difference that God's Kingdom makes is more than just getting to go to heaven when we die. Through Jesus' inauguration of the Kingdom of God on earth, God's eternal heaven is now bringing glimpses of God's future restoration into today. In the ministry of Jesus, Mark shows us that Jesus was bringing about God's liberation and healing to demonstrate how God's Kingdom makes a difference today.

Throughout this series, we see what it means to repent and believe that God's transformative hope of heaven is still bringing God's liberation and healing into the present. The time has come to see what it means for us that God's transformative Kingdom longs to work in, with and through us to not only make a difference in eternity but also today.

Appetite, Affirmation, and Ambition: Led by the Spirit (Lent, Matthew 4:1-11)

Appetite, Affirmation, and Ambition: Led by the Spirit (Lent, Matthew 4:1-11)

On March 19, Pastor Jeff McLain brought our Lent Series to an end. For the final week of this series, we looked at what it means to be Led by the Spirit. A significant aspect of the Temptation of Jesus in Matthew 4:1-11, in addition to the three seductions, is a glimpse at what it means to live led by the Spirit of God.

Throughout Lent (2023), we explored how life (both the evil and brokenness in this world) tries to undermine the identity that we have in Jesus. The confidence that we have in our identity is often hijacked when life gets us to doubt God's provision, God's protection and God's promises. Doubts that undermine our confidence usually come through our temptations of appetite (Lust of the Flesh), affirmation (Pride of Life) and ambition (Lust of the Eyes). In this Lent series, we look at what it means to have our identity firmed up by Jesus and empowered by God's Spirit - so that we do not lose ourselves to our unhealthy and unhelpful appetites, need for affirmation, and ambitions.

Appetite, Affirmation, and Ambition: Inventorying Our Ambitions (Lent, Matthew 4:1-11)

On March 12, Pastor Jeff McLain looked at the third of the three seductions in Matthew 4:1-11, the temptation of Ambition. In this passage, we saw how the why behind our ambition is one of the ways that we are tempted to question God's promises. When we are insecure in our true identity, we will live into false identities, and develop ambitions to provide success for ourselves. If we lose our identity in Jesus, we lose out on what God has for us to experience.

Appetite, Affirmation, and Ambition: Inventorying Our Need for Affirmation (Lent, Matthew 4:1-11)

On March 5, Pastor Jeff McLain looked at the second of the three seductions in Matthew 4:1-11, the temptation of Affirmation. In this passage, we saw how the need for affirmation is one of the ways that we are tempted to question God's protection. When we are insecure in our true identity, we will live into false identities, and seek the affirmations of others. If we lose our identity in Jesus, we lose out on what God has for us to experience.

Appetite, Affirmation, and Ambition: Inventorying Our Appetite (Lent, Matthew 4:1-11)

On February 26, Pastor Jeff McLain looked at the first of the three seductions in Matthew 4:1-11, the temptation of Appetite. In this passage, we saw how appetite is one of the ways that we are tempted to question God's provision, and we are lured to take matters and provision in our own hands, which ultimately will undermine our identity in God. Through the power of God’s blood and Spirit, we can overcome our appetites that unhelpfully seduce us into doubting that God will provide for us.

Throughout Lent (2023), we explored how life (both the evil and brokenness in this world) tries to undermine the identity that we have in Jesus.
