    RECAP TIME:

The voyage of the Broken Sea continues. With the lost map fragments reunited our heroes travel as part of the pirate crew of the Oddmium Trist, and now the first of two sunken tombs have been found and explored: Yelanriae, a tomb designed to keep safe the mould and forge for a powerful key.

With captain Killid’s blood, they forged the blood key and made their way up through the bedrock and the ocean depths to the Oddmium Trist where they were met by the crew and debriefed.

The captain kept to his word and revealed the truth about his patron: Onru, “The Pilgrim”, in his words. He insisted he could be trusted, that his only goal was to find a home in a secret burrowing for his God.

Then the words on the ancient map: “your last sacrifice is in bearing the terrible weight of the truth.”

As they began the next leg of the journey to the Seal Sanctum, other truths about our heroes themselves came to to light. Ahmaya was not originally of this world, Descordia, and Eugene found a more precise location of one of the Lexicon caches – in his hometown of Boraxuss. And both together came to believe that the warning noises from the Murmur sword and the Lexicon were from Xethir being present, or nearby.

Meanwhile, Eugene, Moxie and Freya visited the Curator once more, then Freya decided to visit the Nexus through her God’s Lantern. Where she found a great, moonstone lion guarding Juness’s soulway. It spoke to her of strange things, and after her last incident there, she left, cautious.

Sentinel took out the Arbitel of the Burrowed worlds, the book taken from Crissaphaene, and gave to it their blood…

Roll Models D&D: Episode 87 – Cabin Curses & Uncharted Waters

Roll Models D&D: Episode 87 – Cabin Curses & Uncharted Waters

    RECAP TIME:

After exploring the ancient depths of Yelanriae, our heroes took a much-needed rest. Although it was a fretful one as they still swam under the ocean bedrock, and still relied on enchantments to breathe under the water.

The fight with the Loyalist ended abruptly, the skeletal paladin fell into a heap of ocean warn armour, and his animated gargoyles crumbled. Moxie, with the help of Eugene, successfully extracted her prize at the core of the undead: a rot pearl.

But the Loyalist responded, grabbing her by the neck and echoing his death throes: that for the first time in ten-thousand spirals, the web of pyres shall be awake to the harmonisation… because the Disciple claims them one by one. He shall harness the surge, and with his forging, toll the death knell of all things.

Together, with captain Killid’s blood, they forged the blood key and made their way up through the bedrock and the ocean depths to the Oddmium Trist where they were met by the crew, and debriefed.

The captain kept to his word and revealed the truth about his patron: Onru, The Pilgrim, in his words, although our players have heard him by other names: the Labyrinthine and the Caustic to name two. The captain insisted he could be trusted; that his only goal was to find a home in a secret burrowing for his God, that he himself was resurrected for this purpose, and he believed behind the ancient door in the seal sanctum was one such burrowing.

For, long ago, Onru had such a home, and a man took it from him: Xethir, the Last Disciple.

    RECAP TIME:

Leaving the chasms of Delnori, our heroes voyaged across the broken sea to Yelanriae, the first of two drowned chambers that bordered the now sunken city of Zalumai.

Yelanriae was first. And although they heeded a warning from Ora’s god, Enthor, about the preservation magic that had twisted the place into an undead nightmare, they forged down to the bottom of the ocean.

But in the drowned halls, captain Killid’s secrets became clear. He was not simply there to seek out treasures. And he promised to reveal all back on the Oddmium Trist.

An undead nightmare Yelanriae was. Within it, they found the mould for a key, and the ancient instructions to forge it. And in the deepest room, guarded by an undead paladin, they fought to reach the sarcophagus in which to create it.

After a brutal fight in the underwater chamber, which saw moxie to transform into a giant shark and Florin get knocked unconscious, they slew the Loyalist and its animated gargoyles… and the place fell deathly silent.

    Roll Models D&D: Episode 85 – Blood & Water. Blade & Tooth.

    RECAP TIME:

They voyaged across the broken sea to Yelanriae, the first of two drowned places that bordered the now sunken city of Zalumai. They snapped their enchanted sticks of water breathing and dove down to the bedrock, then dug into a tunnel deeper still until they found a sealed nodule of a landscape.

Before them stretched a preserved mountainside, a top it was the entrance to Yelanriae, but the doorway was guarded by the Concierge. The Concierge was a conglomeration of veils, preserved and twisted souls; victims of the city’s drowning 10,000 years ago and prisoners to its preservation magic that could not let anything die.

They fought past the concierge, through the twitching bodies within the chamber, and found a spherical room that held a mould for a large key and a mural that told a story. It depicted a stone man forging a key with his blood. Another depicted a sealed doorway with strange things beyond it.

Entering the final room, they were met with a seven foot armoured figure wielding a halberd. He spoke in celestial, his voice that of grinding bone and jellied flesh.

“You come to forge the blood key. In the name of Enthorandoran, Crestcoil of Descordia Prime, I will stop you.”

The battle raged in the Loyalists sanctum, the undead paladin reanimating the eroded gargoyles that lined the room. They slammed into our heroes and began pushing back the sarcophagus to holt the forging.

But our heroes had other ideas… and then Moxie cast polymorph.

Roll Models D&D: Episode 83 – Into the Loyalist's Domain

    RECAP TIME:

It was the first leg of their expedition with the pirate crew of the Oddmium Trist… Our heroes were already aware Captain Ryse Killid was a warlock, but it seemed he had more sordid secrets he was hiding. The first was in a small undead item that he hid in a safe in the wall of his cabin. The second was that he himself was undead.

But before they could fully confront him, they arrived at their first destination, snapped their sigil sticks of underwater breathing, and dove into the depths of the Broken Sea.

After breaking through to an ancient tunnel in the bedrock, they rode the current into a gargantuan tomb: a mountainside of Zarlumai preserved under two pitched slabs of tectonic rock that formed a roof. At the top of the mountainside was the entrance to Yelanriae.

But it was protected. Many of the ancient souls of Zarlumai, the ancient city that fell into the sea, had become ensnared by the powerful preservation magics that preserved the chamber.

The souls, like all things within Yelanriae, had been twisted into deep, wallowing creatures of undead. At the entrance to the chamber those souls conglomerated into The Concierge, a creature of transparent veils. It asked them questions, and it did not like their answers.

It split into four, possessed Freya and then Moxie, puppeteering their bodies and attempting to cast spells. The fight was grim, the Concierge was steadfast against persuasion, and healed rapidly. But soon our heroes overwhelmed it…

    RECAP TIME:

Our heroes began their expedition with the Oddmium Trist in high spirits: they had scuppered Dolan Crissaphaene’s plans, ousted the false leader of the Lamoré Family business, and reunited the lost parts of he ancient map which they now followed toward the first chamber.

The chamber they sought was Yelanriae, where they must “bleed for their cause”, and the second was the seal sanctum.

But all was not well aboard the Oddmium Trist, the captain, although liked by many, was hiding something that bore the aura of undead. On closer inspection, the captain himself emanated that very same undead nature. But they quickly arrived at their destination: Ordains rock, a marker for where the lost city fell, and close to the ocean resting place of Yelanriae.

They snapped breathing stick, inhaled the fizzing magic and dove into the depths. Soon our heroes found themselves digging in the bedrock until they found a tunnel with a current, and rode it down… and down to an enormous silt-filled chamber.

During the fall of the city into the ocean, two vast slabs of rock landed together, forming a pitched roof that protected the ancient mountainside within, at the top of which was an opening to a grand tomb. But they were not alone. A creature of diaphanous veils conglomerated together, it called itself the Concierge and was the remnant, undying souls of the cities inhabitants that had been trapped by the pull of the preservation magics ingrained into Yelanriae.

Our heroes had to speak their reasons for being there, and only if the Concierge was pleased with their words would they enter. It paused on Moxie – her quest for a rot pearl – but moved on. Then when the Captain answered, the Concierge shrieked at his lies and branded him a creature of the Court of Desolance, then attacked, splitting into veils.

One such veil disappeared into Freya, possessing her…

Roll Models D&D: Episode 81 – The Lies of the Oddmium Trist

    RECAP TIME:

Setting sail from the chasm city, our heroes rode the waves with the pirate crew of the Oddmium Trist, a galleon of salt crusted darkwood, led by the giant skull of a sabertooth at the bowsprit.

Although they were accepted members of the crew, heroes had concerns of their own.

Sentinel struggled with messaging their father, the deposed crime boss, Royce De Lanta. Freya spoke face-to-face with her mysterious, pariah God who offered both grave omens and an apology for stealing her from the god she sought in her childhood. Moxie’s conflict with Eugene remained a wound unhealed, but she focused on the task ahead: seeking out a rotpearl to craft a new magic.

Eugene himself struggled with ship life, (and the food), and sought more suitable, intellectual work assisting the captain. Ahmaya thrived assisting the crew cook, but her culinary expertise was seemingly not appreciated by everyone.

And Ora I was visited by his own deity, Enthor, who revealed close secrets about the lost city the Oddmium Trist cut through the waves towards.

The chamber they sought, Yelanriae, was ancient, drowned with the rest of the city when it fell into the sea 10,000 years ago. But the preservation of magics that permeated out from the chamber would have sustained things without prejudice. That magic will have twisted over the Millennia. Things that should not live on would not have been allowed to die.

Enthor warned Ora, Yelanriae which was once a chamber to celebrate Enthor himself, crafted by his people, was now a tomb of undead. The world has changed, he has changed, and it is time to unearth the secrets within.

    RECAP TIME:

Our heroes arrived in Delnori on the run from the ritual crisis at the Debiles ball in Dustmere, and they left Delnori with friends, acquaintances in high places, and the beginnings of a business. But their next adventure was in the waves.

They sailed with the crew of the Oddmium Trist, a group of philanthropic pirates, and they searched for the first of two destinations on the ancient map they recovered for the captain.

Yelanriae; a chamber on the mountainside of Zarlumai, an island city that fell into the sea ten thousand years ago during the great unbinding.

The crew were in good spirits, and after a brief detour into the pocket dimension of the Curator’s waiting rooms, our heroes joined them.

The winds were high, but the waters ahead were dangerous, and some of the crew had clouded secrets of their own.

Roll Models D&D: Episode 79 – Rum and Rumours

    RECAP TIME:

After a calamitous few week in Delnori, our heroes took to the sea with the pirate crew of the Oddmium Trist. They sailed in search of two chambers in the mountain reaches of the drowned city of Zarlumai. The first was a place called Yelanriae, the second the Seal sanctum.

When they discovered the second half of the ancient map in the Dias Ward of Delnori and then united the two halves of the map with captain Killid, they discovered they must first visit the chamber, Yelanriae, to “form the key given freely.”

But, on their first night on the Oddmium Trist, they were visited by the Curator – his inter-dimensional front door at least – and they were invited into his waiting rooms where they would have to earn his audience.

After several confusing and often deadly puzzles, our heroes were welcomed by the curator, an old classy, albeit eccentric, noble elf and his assistant Velvet Belice. He asked them many questions, about themselves, about their and then offered them each a special coin…

We've partnered with Dice Legion to bring you 10% off all purchases with the code RollModels10 - happy shopping!

    RECAP TIME:

After making a name for themselves in Delnori, our heroes completed a quest for the captain of the Oddmium Trist. He had purchased half of an ancient map from a collector of magic and artefacts, a mysterious man called the Curator, but the other half of the map was missing.

During a week of research in the Guild Garden, our heroes found the map fragment they were after; the other half of the map of Zarlumai, a city lost to the broken sea during the Great Unbinding ten thousand years ago.

After bringing it to Captain Ryse Killid, they fused the pieces together and solved a riddle that activated an old enchantment in the map. Lines drew in burning ink to point out the two locations on the mountains that bordered he city: Yelanriae and the Seal Sanctum.

Our heroes agreed to accompany the pirate crew to find the chambers, which Captain Killid believed contained “divine treasure”. And as other endeavours ended in Delnori, the time for expedition had arrived.

But on that first night they were visited by a door, for our heroes too had been seeking out the curator, and from his business card a door to his waiting rooms unfolded, and they were welcomed in.

They quickly solved the first puzzle room involving alabaster statues with different heads, but the second room was warped with magic. They entered a dining room bent double with gravity manipulating the space, so the floor was a U shape that covered the wall and ceiling alike.

    Then the statues awoke…

Roll Models D&D: Episode 77 – The Call of the Curator

    RECAP TIME:

During their time in Delnori, our heroes met with the crew of the Oddmium Trist, a ship of pirates with a philosophy; they would not steal from civilian ships, only government vessels… or other pirates.

It seemed that our heroes had made a name for themselves in Delnori, and the crew’s Captain, Ryse Killid, an ancient Bysilman elf, tasked them with delving into the Dias Ward district to find the second half of a lost map that would lead them to a lost city in the broken sea.

This lost city was said to have fallen into the sea during the Great Unbinding, ten thousand years ago, and Killid needed the other half of the map to locate a hidden chamber that was rumoured to have survived. A chamber that was contained divine riches from before the Great Unbinding, a chamber called Yelanriae.

After obliterating Dolan Crissaphaene’s plans and progressing on missions of their own in the city, our heroes came together around Morderyn, and helped push out his murderous mother from the family business. They laid the foundations for a venture of their own that Clayton would keep an eye on while they were away.

Now, the voyage with the Oddmium Trist is upon them, but the journey may not begin quite how our heroes expect…

    RECAP TIME:

Our heroes came to Delnori a group of ex-hunter scavengers fleeing the Apotheos and crime Syndicate of Dustmere. They had ended Xethir’s ritual and in return they gained his attention.

Now, as they look to leave, they have become renown by more than just Ripper’s gangs. Their names are known in the halls of the Artificers, Alchemy, and Whispered Word guilds, the Touch Lotus Thieves guild hear them, and the Lamoré family will (hopefully) work with them.

As they wrap up a week of preparations for their voyage with the Oddmium Trist, Freya continues at the books, Ora enchants his amulet, Ahmaya and Sentinel finish up their work, Moxie prepares a prank for Eugene, and Eugene braces himself for a goodbye with his twin brother, Magnus.

As the final day in Delnori approaches, our heroes have one last task before they take to the waves of the Broken sea. They must use the evidence they have gathered to help Morderyn overthrow his mother as leader of the Lamoré family and thieving business.

The rewards would be great, but the task is easier spoken about than completed.

Roll Models D&D: Episode 75 – Alchemy Ascending

Roll Models D&D: Episode 75 – Alchemy Ascending

    RECAP TIME:

As the voyage with the Oddmium Trist pirate crew approached, our heroes tied up loose ends and planted seeds in the chasm city of Delnori.

They had foiled (and obliterated) Dolan Crissapaene’s plot to become immortal through augmenting his body with artefacts called schivers, and in doing do they learned a little bit more about certain esoteric mysteries. Partly about the burrowings; the world of dungeons and tunnels that connected the planes and was used as a hiding place for cosmic secrets, and also about Ahmaya’s own schiver, Murmur.

In the week before boarding the Oddmium Trist where they would seek out the drowned chamber Yelanriere, Ora spent every waking moment investing magic into a locket to hopefully imbue it with an enchantment. Sentinel and Ahmaya worked in the alleyways and kitchens respectively, and Freya dove into the stacks for information on Savoir Vivre; the name of the clockwork man she’d crossed paths with before even leaving the Dawn Chorus.

Sentinel an Moxie tried their luck at the Physicias Guild, trying to convince them to provide free basic medical care in replace of the underhanded service Dolan Crissaphaene was offering.

Moxie also sought out the Whispered Word, for advice on a necromancy spell she wished to create but found herself in the office of Meredith Vollant, Associate Guild Master who outranked even the Arch Whisper of Delnori. But instead of being arrested for necromancy, Moxie piqued her interest and was offered advice on shortcutting the spells creation.

Meanwhile, Eugene had requested an ascendancy interview at the Alchemy guild to rank up from Apprentice to Associate. But it was unlikely to be an easy task…

    RECAP TIME:

It is safe to say that our heroes have made a name for themselves in the chasm city of Delnori.

They made waves with washed-up thieve’s guild ‘prince’ Morderyn Lamoré, worked favours for landlord and pirate concierge, Ripper, and achieved the impossible for the Captain of the Oddmium Trist.

The latter involved seeking out a lost map fragment that would lead the crew to a city that fell deep into the Broken Sea during the Great Unbinding.

It was this drowned place they agreed to accompany the crew in finding, a sealed tomb there called Yelanriere to be specific.

And lastly, they halted Dolan Crissaphaene’s plot to litchify himself by sending clockwork augmented thieves into a tunnel world called the burrowings to seek out powerful relics.

Now, with our heroes’ time in Delnori coming to a close – at least for the length of a pirate’s voyage – they need to spend some much needed time tying up loose ends, preparing for the open sea, and finding out just how notorious they have really become…

Roll Models D&D: Episode 73 – Communions with the Dead

Roll Models D&D: Episode 73 – Communions with the Dead

    RECAP TIME:

Dolan Crissaphaene had sought to control the Touch Lotus Thieves guild with gold, strange clockwork augmentations, and promises of power in the Delnori city. All they had to do was work with him to fix and reopen the Opal archway and continue searching the burrowing worlds beyond it for artefacts Crissaphaene can use to make himself immortal.

But when our heroes came across the archway, and caught wind of Dolans plans, it was never going to happen so easy.

Our heroes stormed the archway cave in the early hours with alchemical bombs, raised skeletons and a bold plan. And it worked. Kind of.

The Touch Lotus leader, Fenriv was ripped away from the ritual machine and draped into an underground river, and Dolan fought first to keep the ritual going, and then for his life.

But even after he fell, the ritual had opened the archway, albeit tenuously. A giant creature pushed through, a mass of writhing tentacles and barbs the size of a small ship.

With the help of the remaining Touch Lotus, our heroes felled the abomination as it tried to slip into the waterways… leaving our heroes catching their collective breath as they searched through the remains of the Clockwork Alchemists hideout…

    RECAP TIME:

After raiding the Touch Lotus Thieves cave, our heroes fought to shut down the archway and stop the soon-to-be litch Dolan Crissaphaene’s plans to seek out relics from the worlds beyond the archway.

Explosions rocked the cave, Dolan ignited to life a brass automaton that waded into the fight, and Ora ripped one of the Touch Lotus thieves from the copper pipes that seemed to be stabilising the ritual. The latter sent the archway into a frenzy of flickering auroras, and Dolan struggled to keep it under control.

Then the spilling light of the archway steadied on a cavelike world beyond the, and from within, enormous, blue and purple tentacles began reaching through.

Finally, Ahmaya touched the Schiver buried in Dolan’s chest that was fueling much of his magic, and her own schiver – murmur, the sword haunted by a small bird –  burned away its power. He stumbled, leaving Freya open to deliver the final blow with a potent spell.

Dolan hit the floor. The archway flickered as the ritual came to an end, and cluster of giant, milky eyes peered through. Before the archway could close, the tentacles spasmed and clawed the ground, pulling their bulbous body through, and it roared…

Roll Models D&D: Episode 71 – Fight for the Opal Archway

Roll Models D&D: Episode 71 – Fight for the Opal Archway

    RECAP TIME:

With alchemical bomb and a plan, our heroes approached the graveyard and burned-out house atop the excavation site that the Touch Lotus had claimed as their new hideout. Within the thieves led by Crissaphaene were attempting to open and stabilise the archway and then enter the burrowings beyond in search of Schivers.

With Moxie’s reanimated dead in tow, our heroes barricaded the top of the elevator in the cliffside and descended into the cavern where Crissaphaene’s ritual had already begun.

Ora cast vortex warp on Amaya sending her to the base of the archway where she set the alchemical bomb and then sprinted across the room. Sentinel flew from the lift into the stalactites above the Touch Lotus and summed a shadowspawn of fear that resembled their father, and it screamed, terrifying a couple of the Lotus thieves and Crissaphaene himself.

Moments later, Moxie shot a fireball to ignite the bomb. A ripple of concussive force ripped across the sanctum, followed by a shower of pink smoke. Two of the Lotus thieves were thrown across the space, ablaze, and dust rained from the archway.

But Crissaphaene continued throwing ingredients into his floating brazier and Fenriv, the leader of the Lotus, was fitting coilshards to his headpiece that was linked to the archway by copper pipes. The ritual was continuing, the archway flashed with aurora light as it opened and closed, in quick succession.

A large oiled tarp by the archway smouldered, and slid from the clockwork giant, a golem of brass and gold, and Crissaphaene awoke it…

Roll Models D&D: Episode 70 – Raid on the Clockwork Sanctum

We've partnered with Dice Legion to bring you 10% off all purchases with the code RollModels10 - happy shopping!

    RECAP TIME:

Arriving in the chasm city of Delnori, are six heroes caught a thread: it began with a clockwork augmented rat that enslaved a local gang with a twisted enchantment.

Meanwhile, a splinter of the disgraced Delnori thieves guild, now called the Touch Lotus, were also augmented by strange clockwork. After tracking some otherworldly creatures, our heroes found the Touch Lotus attempting to repair a broken archway of fossil-opal.

Meanwhile, rumours became reality as the team met the strange ex-alchemist who was at work in the Maze market, trading blood for cure-alls, Dolan Crissaphaene.

Crissaphaene was the clockwork genius, and in the aftermath of a Touch Lotus raid on the Artificer’s guild, our heroes found out his plot: to fix the broken archway, and using old magics, open the way beyond to seek out strange relics called Schivers and use them to augment himself into something immortal.

Research and preparations behind them, it was time to face the Lotus and Crissaphaene.

Our heroes descended on the entrance to the tomb beneath the Scure Street, and with them they brought two things: a potent alchemical bomb, and a plan none of them were particularly sure about.

Roll Models D&D: Episode 69 – The Eye of the Brass Alchemist

Roll Models D&D: Episode 69 – The Eye of the Brass Alchemist

After a week of research in the stained light of the Delnori University library, parsing through tomes, and toying with scrolls and maps, our heroes finally found the map fragment they were looking for.

Sealed in the back of an old explorer’s journal, the delicate brown velum matched the other half held by Captain Killid of the Oddmiun Trist.

They didn’t spare a moment before meeting with the pirate crew and revealing their find. And with the looming figure of the captain watching, they joined the two halves of the map and solved the riddle on its back.

In fire and salt the map burned, the salt melting into ink that revealed the two locations either side of the ancient, drowned city. Yelanriae and The Sanctum. And in the burning ink, words began to scrawl: "Form the key given freely in Yelanreire and take it to the Seal Sanctum to open the way. Your second sacrifice is in bleeding for your cause."

The voyage was set, they had five days to prepare… and destroy an archway beneath Scure Street. But before they left The Oddmium Trist, Captain Killid had some questions for Freya regarding the identity of her Deity…
