Roll Models D&D: Episode 50 – Mimics in the Dark

After our heroes sailed up the west coast, away from the chaos and the plotting in Dustmere, the city of Delnori welcomed them into the cool shade of its cliffs. Built within the chasms and fissures, Delnori was a city of old, sea-washed secrets, and our heroes were ready to explore it.

Their first job was at the request of Ripper, patron of the pirate tavern Ripper’s Beer house. He needed them to sort out a gang who’d not been finishing jobs for him. But things were never as simple as they first seemed.

Dug into the base of the gang’s hideout was a cave, in which the members had been magically dominated by a horrific mutated rat with a strange glass cap filled with cogs bolted into its skull. Our heroes saved who they could, and slew the rat, quickly returning to Ripper’s.

Ripper was relieved, grateful for those they had saved and impressed with the speed of their work. But he was just as confused as our heroes about the strange rat with the sigil-engraved cogs in its head.

But the next job soon called and would hopefully be a simpler affair. Our heroes were to head down North Fissure, one of the chasm-canals in the Scure Street district where they needed to help Jeffrum, a tanner, with a bit of a pest problem. The house was little more than a two-storey shack. The tanning smells were caustic, foul and overpowering, untanned leathers hung out, mould speckling the edges.

Something wasn’t quite right. Ahmaya knocked and called out, and after no answered, she kicked down the door…

Roll Models D&D: Episode 49 – A Rat Race in the Chasms

Roll Models D&D: Episode 49 – A Rat Race in the Chasms

Dustmere was behind them, but questions followed our heroes like ghosts. What exactly flashed in Delnori on the Lexicon map, where and who was Zapes, what mystery surrounded the Simulacra and destroyed Freya’s contract with Juness, and why was the Disciple, Xethir trying to break the One Thousand Seals?

On the tropical winds of the Broken Sea, our heroes sailed into the open cliff of chasm city, Delnori, and delved into the sprawl.

They explored merchant and resident district of the Plaza, the high plateau of the gated Dias Ward, and the chaotic patchwork of Chasm Town that was built from old boats and older buildings up the cliff wall.

After choosing an inn down the North Fissure of Scure Street, they snatched up rumours and jobs, choosing first to check on the Chasm Pigs. Their job from Ripper was simple – find out why the Chasm Pigs hadn’t been completing jobs and why they’d dropped off the map.

The gang hideout was a dank hole at the base quarters of Chasm Town. When they arrived, it was under six inches of water and a tunnel had been dug out the rear of the cliff wall and into a cave system. The cave echoed with the sounds of trickling water and shuffling feet.

Inside the cave the Chasm Pigs attacked, controlled by some malignant will, they threw themselves with viscous abandon at our heroes who fought them back. With each strike, the gang members visibly struggled with their mental shackles, but seldom broke free. A giant, mutated rat was behind it, sequestered deep in the cave, its brain changed by ticking and whirring cogs within in a glass skullcap.

In a frantic desperation it seized Ahmaya and Eugene’s minds and channelled its story into Eugene’s consciousness. Its changing was at the hands of a person it called The Maker, a man that forced a swarm to seek out relics in a painful world beyond a cursed door.

But an accident broke the door, cracked the rat’s skullcap, and damaged its altered mind. It made it clever, sinister, aware, and so it found rats _____

Roll Models D&D: Episode 48 – Tyranny in the Gutters

Roll Models D&D: Episode 48 – Tyranny in the Gutters

After arriving in Delnori, the city built into the crags of a sea-side chasm, our heroes took a tour to explore the inner-cliff culture. They ate and drank and for a time they enjoyed a life that was neither at sea nor sand. But soon the call for work drew them to Ripper’s Beer house.

Bolted about 70 feet up a cliff-wall covered in a patchwork of buildings constructed from bits of ships, masts and ragged sails was the inn made from an upturned galleon. To get to the front door, our heroes traversed the rope-bridges and rickety ladders of the Chasm Town thoroughfare.

Beer house was absolutely the best way to describe Ripper’s. Longs tables and benches were filled with sea-scoured sailors and pirates marked with honorary scars, wooden jewellery and coins grafted into their skin.

Ripper quickly offered them a job with a promise of more gold and more work if they sort his problem for good. A gang called the Chasm Pig’s had been disappointing him; they hadn’t been finishing jobs, and recently hadn’t turned up at all.

From Sentinel and Ora who felt comfortable in the rowdy beer house to Eugene who wasn’t having such a grand time – our heroes took up the offer and headed straight to the Chasm Pigs’ den.

It didn’t take long to realise something was amiss. The hideout, a dank hole at the base quarters of Chasm Town, was under six inches of water. A tunnel bored out the back and into the foundations of the cliff, and then they found a body. The dead gang member’s purse was fat with coppers, silver, buttons and worthless trinkets and among a floating rot of old letters was a note “Ripper help.”

Through the tunnel they went, and what they found was another of the Chasm Pigs, this one alive, but not quite right…

Roll Models D&D: Episode 47 – The Chasm Town Mystery

Roll Models D&D: Episode 47 – The Chasm Town Mystery

Our heroes left the dangers of Dustmere behind them. They left the duke Gaspar, dead after he tried to ascend a mortal to Demi godhood. All so that his master, The Disciple Xethir, could slaughter the being to break a “Great Seal”.

They left a brother vying for power beyond his syndicate of crime. They left friends, a wife, and the desert that first bound them together.

But the journey ahead was rich in rumour and possibility. North to Delnori, the Southern-most coastal hub of the Asildian Empire. It was a place that flickered as a point of light on the map within Eugene’s Lexicon device; a passive location of a hidden Cache. A Place where Moxie’s told her to find a man called Zapes and Sentinel could seek out other organised crime.

A city where they could find real guilds and libraries to research their questions – the One Thousand Seals, the Disciple, the omened arrival of the Unbeing. There was also Ahmaya’s talking sword-finch, Freya’s own mysterious god and relic, and the two forces that seemed to pull Ora in two directions. But most importantly… it was a port that allowed pirates of the Zarxotic Isles to parlay…

They arrived at a city was built within a ravine in a cliffside. Tall structures climbed the walls made from galleon aftcastles, masts, sails, ropes and brick. Further within, the city spilled over flatter ground, a cobbled square, a maze of markets and narrow streets of black-tiled tenement houses, inns and shops. Rising a hundred feet above it all was a noble plateau supporting grand spires and gleaming walls of cream stone.

With an eccentric and rude city guide, they dove into the city to eat and explore. They found… odd street food, bountiful fermenteries, and a wonderful sweetshop. But they had been at sea for some time, and the hunger for business soon called.

Our heroes settled down at an inn called the Old Diver tucked into the walled crags of Scure Street, there was work to be had, thieves to collar… mysteries to uncover.

Roll Models D&D: Episode 46 – Welcome to Delnori

Roll Models D&D: Episode 46 – Welcome to Delnori

Dustmere, the city in the sand, became a hostile place for our heroes. The Disciple, named by an apparition as “Xethir”, sought to break The One Thousand Seals to achieve an unknown goal. As a servant of Xethir, Duke Gaspar was attempting to create a graven god by planting an illusory seed of faith in the people of Dustmere and letting it bloom.

The many threads of the plot converged at the Masqerade, were Gaspar used a huge coilstone to catalyse the transformation. He turned duke Debiles into a horrific imitation of a Graven and sent for Xethir to execute his plans.

But before Xethir could arrive and kill the graven himself, our heroes emerged from the crowd, and once again they slew it. The Disciple, Xethir punished Gaspar for his failures, and promised them, “the seals will fall. The towers will once again light the way for the worthy. And you shall not live to see it.”

With the Glass Desert and the city of Dustmere behind them, our heroes chased friends and rumour to a new city. Finding Florin at the Port with his tall, rickety merchant boat, they set sail and mended the vessel on the move, newly christening it the “Baery”.

Under the stars they drank from stolen barrels of rum, shared regrets of the past, worries of the future, and on the last evening of their voyage, Florin shared a tale passed down through his people.

They arrived in the stifling heat of the afternoon to a city built into a vast opening in a cliff. Mist rolled from the city maw and wicked from tall structures of galleon aftcastles, masts, sails, ropes and brick, all stacked up the inner-wall of the crevasse. Further within the shadow of the cliff wall the city proper sprawled: a vast cobbled square hemmed by a maze of markets and a tangle of narrow cobbled streets and black-tiled tenement houses, inns and shops. Rising a hundred feet above it all was a cliff plateau, and atop it were grand spires and gleaming walls of cream stone.

Florin leaned on the taffrail with our heroes as they peered ahead, “the Southernmost coastal hub of Hazarli… the one and only Empire city where pirates of the Zarxotic Isles can parlay. Welcome to Delnori.”

Roll Models D&D: Episode 45 – Desert Goodbyes & Starlight Stories

Roll Models D&D: Episode 45 – Desert Goodbyes & Starlight Stories

Our heroes arrived in the city Dustmere as desert worn hunter-scavengers and come to leave it as some of the only people in the Empire who know what truly happened to Crowned Duke Debiles and Duke Gaspar at the Desert Masquerade. But the Dukes’ plot extended beyond the sand clotted cobbles of Dustmere.

The Disciple lives on, seeking the breaking of the One Thousand Seals. In their last desert night before taking a ship to Delnori, our heroes drank on the roof of their favourite inn, while Jacks and Caxaria ran to the Temple of Geish to marry.

But that night was not all loving oaths. A message for Freya came on the wing of a Kondor. Her Sister warned of a coming threat, a portent uttered years prior by Ora’s body when he was pulled from the Edge before being resurrected.

“The Anchor rusts in the depths of the Edge, yet he holds unmoving and unbroken. The Hollow One’s curséd body lies obliterated, but his disciple lives. The great seals are crumbling… He shall rise again. The Unbeing shall rise again.”

Eugene continued to struggle with his actions at the Desert Masquerade, confiding in Ahmaya and Moxie over cactus wine coolers, and discussing alchemy, their pasts and their uncertain futures.

Helping Ora, Freya dove into the nexus world with her strange relic the God’s lantern, a sphere of pearl made from the accreted faith at the core of a flux storm in the desert. She sought answers of Ora’s origins from a god shunned from the Pantheon, Amaan, The Conquerer of Death.

She was faced by an apparition, a servant of Amaan, who she made a deal with: coilshards (or a soul) for information, and it taunted her about the dark secrets of her beloved Chorus. Tempting her to open her letter of faith that must always remain sealed…

Roll Models D&D: Episode 44 – Loving Oaths & Undying Deals

Roll Models D&D: Episode 44 – Loving Oaths & Undying Deals

In the wake of the Desert Masquerade ‘Massacre’, our heroes came together to plan their next steps. With the two dukes involved in ascending someone to semi-godhood now dead, our heroes’ attentions were on the dukes’ mysterious patron: The Disciple.

The Disciple’s goals were unknown, past the breaking of the One Thousand Seals to uncover something. However, things were now simpler for our heroes: they were no longer welcome in Dustmere, with Jacks’ and Moxie’s brother Julien aware they were alive, he would likely throw the full force of the syndicate into hunting them down.

Not only that, Ora remained wanted by an unknown organisation, and Freya was keen to continue her search for her lost sister, Ersa. It seemed that Delnori, the largest port city south of the Capital was their best bet.

In deciding this, they took to the rooftops. And, while Jacks and Caxaria stole themselves away to the temple district to marry, the rest of the group looked out over their last Dustmere sunset for one last time. But in the dim purple light of Geish, the dusk moon, a huge alabaster and silver bird dove toward them.

It was a kondor, one of the intelligent and highly secure messenger birds of the rich… it delivered a message to Freya, from Ersa. She was a part of a secret organisation. She was scared, Juness (supposedly both sisters’ god), could not reach Freya, and she had urgent information about a rising threat. That threat came in the form of words uttered by Ora’s body when he was pulled from the Edge years ago, before he was resurrected...

    Roll Models D&D: Episode 43 – Farewells & Revelations

    Roll Models D&D: Episode 43 – Farewells & Revelations

After the chaos of the desert masquerade where many threads of the Dustmere conspiracy converged, our heroes escaped the Debiles estate with a handful of valuable coilshards and their lives.

Crowned duke Debiles had been transformed into a malnourished Graven, and duke Gaspar, the man behind his transformation, was killed at the hand of his master, “the Disciple”, who arrived by a rent in space.

The Disciple’s purpose was, seemingly, to “kill a god” and “break a seal”. But at the masquerade, and as they had done once before in the Cragmore, our heroes got their first. They slew the semi-ascended Debiles and earned a warning from the Disciple before he left.

As the dust settled, our heroes returned to Caxaria’s hideout to lick their wounds, both physically and psychological, and to attempt to knit together some of the ragged strips of information they had collected.

But just as it had when the Disciple was approaching the ball, Ahmaya’s sword began singing like drawn steel. And as it had once before, a tiny bird made from accreted leaf and fibre and wood-chip manifested before her eyes… And this time, it spoke.

Roll Models D&D: Episode 42 – A Murmur of Things to Come

Our heroes found themselves following the threads of a conspiracy in the cobbled, desert streets of Dustmere.

In their exploration of the tombs in the desert, they knew the coilstones were more than jewels, and power sources for shardwork machines; they had power, and there was evidence of an old magic in the city that could be used to harness it.

Dukes were plotting, the crime syndicate in turmoil, a cult making moves, and they all seemed to converge on the Ball to celebrate the return of Crowned Duke Debiles.

At the ball, Debiles was tricked – turned into a malnourished demi-god at the hands of another duke and Julien, leader of the Syndicate. But their own leader approached, his purpose was to kill this new god for his own esoteric reasons.

But our heroes got there first, slaying the monstrous creature before this “Disciple” could arrive. And arrive he did. Disappointed, he killed the duke who failed him and he left with a warning to our heroes.

Our heroes scrambled together, quickly looking for more evidence… and other things, before guards descend on the estate. While Sentinel walked the midnight streets, reeling from the events of the Ball…

    Roll Models D&D: Episode 41 – A Seal Unbroken

    Roll Models D&D: Episode 41 – A Seal Unbroken

Our heroes arrived in Dustmere as Hunter scavengers who stumbled into a duke’s plot to find the last Graven God in the Glass Desert – and they ended up killing it.

They quickly took up jobs that only tangled themselves further into the conspiracies of the cobbled, desert City. Duke Gaspar and Crowned Duke Debiles were plotting to make something, or someone, more than mortal, using old, forgotten magics and hordes of coilstones.

To complicate matters further, the crime Syndicate and a cult of some kind were both involved.

Finally, our heroes attended the Masquerade Ball, some with tickets, others as cooks, maids or guards. They aimed to find out as much information as possible, to confirm their suspicions… and hopefully have a lovely old time while they were at it.

But seemingly to his surprise, Crowned Duke Debiles was transformed into a horrific creature by a giant coilstone gifted to him by duke Gaspar. Cult wizards left from the crowd and fired spells, cutting through guests, and our heroes fought to bring down both them and the Debiles-creature.

But Duke Gaspar had sent for his master… the Disciple “it is done,” he said, “but hurry, the creature is under attack.”

And just as our heroes felled the creature, the Disciple arrived. With a thin, gauntleted hand the Disciple sliced through space and stepped into the settling chaos of the ball.

He was a tall, gaunt man in a long, cream coat and skin that marbled like unfurling smoke. He spoke to Gaspar with a painful intake of breath “I see you have been successful… to a degree.”

Roll Models D&D: Episode 40 – The Man with the Marble Skin

Roll Models D&D: Episode 40 – The Man with the Marble Skin

Collusion and trickery has darkened the sandy, cobbled streets of Dustmere. Duke Gaspar was hoarding coilstones, the magic crystals of unknown origin, and seemed to be involved with the Crowned Duke of Dustmere, Debiles.

The Syndicate, the crime families, and Moxie and Sentinel’s origins, were also involved with the dukes. Namely Moxie and Sentinel’s “V family” now under the dictatorship of Moxies twin brother Julien.

And lastly, a cult of some kind plotted. White-robed people with an unknown motive.

From research and findings in old tomes, our heroes believe someone is attempting to raise-up Debiles into something more than mortal… a new Graven maybe. And all threads seem to be converging on a masquerade ball seemingly to celebrate the return of Crowned Duke Debiles.

At the ball, our heroes spied, gained intel on possible relationships between dukes and Syndicate… but something else was happening… Gaspar handed Debiles a gift… a giant coilstone that shimmered with opalescent potential.

It violently consumed him, turning Debiles into a tower of black and gold glass. The party erupted into chaos and white robed individuals began casting. Our heroes dove into the fray, cutting through these cultists. Then a horror erupted from the glass chrysalis, Debiles elongated in bone, blood, and molten gold.

Gaspar snapped a sending stick and uttered one, short sentence “It is done, but it is under attack, you must arrive as soon as possible, master…”

Roll Models D&D: Episode 39 – The Crystal Chrysalis

Roll Models D&D: Episode 39 – The Crystal Chrysalis

After following a conspiracy of hoarded coilstones, a mysterious cult and a struggle for divine power involving Duke Gaspar and Crowned Duke Debiles, our heroes descended on a ball being thrown to celebrate Debiles return to Dustmere. They believed if one of the Dukes were to make a move, it would be here.

Sentinel and Freya obtained official tickets, while Ahmaya, Eugene, Moxie and Ora claimed jobs at the ball.

As cooks to the domineering Chef Rorrigon, Eugene and Ahmaya channelled skills from their past and impressed. As an even Guard, Ora patrolled, reuniting with Clayton who had also taken the offer of work. And Moxie somewhat embraced the role of scullery maid, flitting down scullery corridors between walls and spying on guests.

The ball, themed after ancient mysteries, was in full swing, but it didn’t take long for things to sour. Among the guests were a number of poor, worshippers of Debiles, a recent fixation caused by an illusion spell our heroes dealt with… but it had taken root in the city.

Our heroes believed something was imminent, so they manoeuvred to intervene, but Gaspar stood before the crowed and gave a speech… and then a gift to Crowned Duke Debiles… a giant coilstone.

Candles flashed like lime-lights before snuffing out, and the crystal reacted to Debiles in a violent eruption of crystal and glass growths. In a screaming moment, he was replaced by a glimmering totem of black glass…

Roll Models D&D: Episode 38 – The Key to Dustmere

Roll Models D&D: Episode 38 – The Key to Dustmere

Our heroes were finally preparing for the ball at the Debiles’ estate. A masquerade thrown by duke Gaspar – their old employer in their hunter-scavenging trek into the desert – to celebrate the return of the duke of Dustmere: Crowned Duke Debiles.

But our heroes’ conspiracy board has grown... and it seems duke Gaspar has many irons in the fire. He has been collecting coilstones, shards of an unknown composition worth immeasurable value. Our heroes found one of Gaspar’s lost ships stranded and survived attempts to burn it, aboard was evidence that pointed to some kind of a ritual.

But there are other parties at play; a cult has been in the city and stole a tome titled “The Blood of Apotheosis”, their presences was also on the ritual ship of Gaspar’s.

Many threads of intent are tangling in Dustmere, our heroes have cut through some and followed others... to the ancient mystery themed masquerade. Freya and Sentinel entered the ball as guests in their dress and suit, and began mingling, they saw the dukes, and Sentinel and Moxie's brother, Julien the new dictatorial leader of their family and the Crime Syndicate of Dustmere.

Eugene and Ahmaya joined the kitchens where they impressed Chef Rorrigon with their culinary prowess, and Moxie dove into the scullery corridors between the walls, working as a maid. It was in one of these corridors that her missing uncle, Baptiste, grabbed her. One of the obsidian chokers they've seen on cultists and enslaved about his neck. He tells her the necklace holds hostage to Julien, and that Moxie must flee the city and seek out a man called Zapes in Delnori.

Something else runs through the ball, a sinister uneasiness, perhaps thanks to the tacky candles and faked symbols of ancient magic. But the masquerade has only just begun…

Roll Models D&D: Episode 37 – The Desert Masquerade

Roll Models D&D: Episode 37 – The Desert Masquerade

The Day of the masquerade ball to celebrate the return of Crowned Duke Debiles is upon us. After a few weeks of wading into Noble and crime syndicate plots, and days of planning — getting tickets and cover jobs at the ball — our heroes completed their final preparations.

Ora discovered the strange, shattered sword he was carrying when he was resurrected appears to have been made broken, and its metallic attributes strange. Sentinel confronted Cax about her hiding the true ruin that her brother Julian had wreaked in the Grande. Eugene and Freya visited the alchemy guild, where Eugene finally crafted the elixir to awaken the Enriver’s Lexicon, and they succeeded.

The Lexicon, a strange artifice-defying cube, flickered to life and disintegrated into a cloud of particles, under-lit by the projected secrets of the blueprint Eugene had inserted into it. It showed them the blueprint of Eugenes strange crossbow, within it was a map of the entangled worlds, and within that was a map of this very continent, Hazarli, showing points of glimmering light. A voice streamed into Eugenes mind explaining to him that these points are likely caches similar to the one the Lexicon was found in.

Reuniting, our heroes set out their finals plans. Their priority: to gather evidence that supported their belief that Gaspar was involved in collecting coilstones, possibly to ascend himself to godhood. They were ready to go into the Glitters, to the Debiles estate… to the desert Masquerade…

Roll Models D&D: Episode 36 – The Lexicon Awakened

Roll Models D&D: Episode 36 – The Lexicon Awakened

Our heroes have only been in Dustmere a matter of weeks, but they have been busy. Returning as hunter scavengers the debt was wiped by Duke Gaspar for their services, then they plunged into work… and tangled themselves with a conspiracy of power.

Forces were at work, and their aims were far from good, and our heroes believed their old friend Gaspar was among those at the core.

That morning, after Ahmaya and Eugene prepared some alchemically crafted candied sending stones in the inn’s kitchen, the group was attacked by three men in flowing cloaks of beige that shifted colour. A brutal fight ensued and was only stopped when one of the assassins, Jago, recognised Moxie.

Jago convinced the other assassins that the group were Syndicate, and it’s against their code to kill other members. He revealed that they had been hired by Julien to kill a group responsible for destroying an asset in the tunnels beneath the city. They also knew that Julien didn’t know moxie and Sentinel were in this group, and that he paid the contract with noble money.

Furthermore, the Wakefields had identified a third party, a cult of some kind. He warned our heroes that they are in the middle of dangerous groups. But the ball was approaching where many of these people will be attending, and our heroes can’t pass up an opportunity like that.

Roll Models D&D: Episode 35 – Honour Among Assassins

Roll Models D&D: Episode 35 – Honour Among Assassins

After twining themselves with Dustmere conspiracies our heroes toiled away in the stacks of the archivist’s guild, researching details they’d picked up since their trek in the depths of the Glass Desert. They uncovered secrets of the Serene. They gained insight into the One Thousand Seals. Sentinel asked more of these seals from their amnesiac patron the Enigmora who asked them to stop their breaking and advised they seek out those responsible. And Eugene managed to unlock his strange cube called the Enriver’s Lexicon and it spoke to him of a quest to find the remaining caches.

But, as the duke’s ball approaches, they further intertwined themselves; getting jobs at the manor where the ball will be held, ordering a dress and suit to be tailored (and masks – it’ a masquerade after all). Ahmaya and Eugene warmed up their culinary skills, Eugene showing Ahmaya how to craft sugar into fruit flavoured rock-candy sending stones to be used during the ball.

Meanwhile, Freya once again meditated on the artefact she had been drawn to in the desert, the rocky, fist sized sphere called the God’s Lantern. And after weeks of trying, she finally broke through. Lightening sheered from her body while her mind dwelled within the nexus-space of the Lantern. She found herself on a fishing boat with a man, floating on a tranquil sea beneath stars, moons, and planets. But when the man saw her, he seemed to panic and ejected her, only for her to be visited that night by something else…

Roll Models D&D: Episode 34 – Star Storms & Sugar Work

Roll Models D&D: Episode 34 – Star Storms & Sugar Work

After identifying an abandoned ship as Duke Gaspar’s, and uncovering the remnants of a macabre ritual onboard, our heroes arrived back in Dustmere. A number of Dukes, a strange cult obsessed with something called “Apoptysaliss”, and potentially other forces, were vying for power in the desert city – and all our heroes new for sure was that it involved the manipulation of swathes of people into worshipping Duke Debiles as though he were a prophet.

But after solving the robbery at the Archivists guild, they had access to the stacks, and they took full advantage of it. They uncovered secrets of the Serene, a group that pre-dated the Edgewatchers. They gained insight into the One Thousand Seals, that they were patches placed over cracks in the fabric of the Entanglement multiverse to seal away that which led to the Great Unbinding many thousands of years before. Eugene specifically made progress unlocking his strange cube called the Enriver’s Lexicon.

And they found out the meaning of Apoptysaliss – a chrysalis of ritualistic death.

But, as they sign-up to jobs for the upcoming Duke’s ball, dangers rise round our heroes, and so do the tensions. This led to an explosive heart-to-heart between Moxie and Sentinel, paranoia among many of the others that they were being watched…

Roll Models D&D: Episode 33 – Hard Truths & Arcane Discoveries

Roll Models D&D: Episode 33 – Hard Truths & Arcane Discoveries

Hunting down and boarding the stranded vessel out of Port Dustmere, our heroes discovered a terrible truth. The ship had been used for some kind of ritual, bodies stacked around a circle of blood and sigils below deck, and a remnant madness clawed at their psyches. Whoever was responsible had intended to blow the boat out of the water, but the fire had failed.

Our heroes found a paper trail — it was one of Duke Gaspar De Avicco’s vessels, and then they fled, reigniting the barrels and watching it erupt from afar. Our heroes returned to Dustmere, Moxie finished making her mask from the Prophet of Dust’s skull fragments. Eugene managed to awaken his strange artefact, the Enriver’s Lexicon, and Sentinel checked in with Zeal after he was caught by the madness on the boat. Ora and Freya used the remaining light to visit the forge where Ora spoke with his old boss and friend, and then the Chapel of the Dawn Chorus where, on the Prelate’s records, Freya saw a name she hadn't seen for a long time. That night, the group was finally reunited.

But all was not so well. Ahmaya and Freya suspected a new half-elf who worked behind the bar at the Coal and Petal Inn, and after confronting him, the man disappeared. Sentinel suspected spies, for them and Moxie or for Ora, they were all unsure. But the ball approached, the Dukes’ plots continued, and our heroes still needed a way in…

Roll Models D&D: Episode 32 – An Unexpected Host

Roll Models D&D: Episode 32 – An Unexpected Host

A message from a familiar Pirate Dragonborn woke Ahmaya with a favour. There was a ship abandoned near Dustmere port, and there were bad things aboard. Our heroes were already suspicious about Duke Gaspar De Avicco, suspecting this ship to be one he had used to smuggle coilstones. They had 12 hours before the information would go public, so they took to seas and soon realised the ship was not all that it seemed.

A ritual had taken place aboard the vessel, leaving a scar on the ship, a curse that ate away at our heroes’ minds. Below deck, bodies were stacked around a circle of old symbols and in the centre was a stool bearing a burn-mark like a coal had rested on its top. A boat approached, and our heroes raced to find evidence. They discovered the captain’s body away in a large bench, along with papers identifying the ship as one of Gaspar De Avicco’s.

They found the unburned casks of alchemical grain alcohol someone had attempted to use to incinerate the ship, and they took the opportunity to blast the ship from the water. Returning to Dustmere, they reunited with Ora, where he spoke of his own revelations, and they regrouped to prepare for the last few days before the Duke’s Ball…

Roll Models D&D: Episode 31 – The Curse of The Velvet Horatio

Roll Models D&D: Episode 31 – The Curse of The Velvet Horatio

Doranna, the pirate dragonborn, a lithe lizard of a man our heroes met in a desert outpost, contacted Ahmaya. A vessel was adrift close to Dustmere port – bad things aboard, he said. And after confirming with a contact from the port Master’s office, our heroes were given 12 hours to get to the boat and investigate before the information would be released as public knowledge.

Driven by their suspicion of the ship being one of Duke Gaspar’s lost vessels he’d used to smuggle coilstones, they flew to the port by carriage. Leaving Ora behind to stir from a strange vision that had consumed him for days.

There was something wrong with the ship. Dead fish surrounded it, birds dove to feed but never resurfaced. On the main deck they discovered a body tattooed with heretical marks, bastardisations of the Three Churches of the Apotheos. They found more bodies… and more. A circle of sigils, and a similarly tattooed man on the edge of dying.

They saved him. He muttered “Apoptosaliss”, told them to seek out The Disciple, and to bear witness to their creation in Dustmere soon. Then he plunged a quill deep into his eye…
