Seed Time Money with Bob & Linda Lotich

We have a different take on money than most financial experts. Kind of like if Chip and Joanna talked about money. You know, down-to-earth, approachable, easy to understand, and even fun. We aren’t going to judge you for your past mistakes and we haven’t forgotten the pain of being broke so we can relate. We believe simple always beats complicated. And we believe money isn’t the goal, but is simply a tool that can be used to fulfill what God has called us to do. Success with money. Success in Marriage. Success as a Christian. That’s what we’re after. If you want that too, then you’ll love the show. We help you spend less time thinking about money while getting better results. The SeedTime Money podcast is where we (Bob & Linda Lotich) share the mindsets, beliefs and strategies we used to go from being debt-ridden and broke to: - paying off $400k of debt - eliminating all guilt and shame with money - building multiple streams of passive income - honoring God with our finances - learning how to save & invest wisely - having financial unity in our marriage - giving $1 million by age 40 Occasionally, we interview guests like Mark Batterson, Annie F. Downs, Joshua Becker, Carlos Whittaker, Crystal Paine, Jordan Raynor, and other Biblically-minded Christian thought leaders as we seek to connect our faith with our personal finances. And if you like what you hear on the podcast, consider diving deeper with us by grabbing our award-winning book ‘Simple Money, Rich Life’ or take your spouse or church small group through our 6-week on-demand workshop 'True Financial Freedom'. Mint.com is shutting down... (our 2 favorite alternatives)

With Mint.com closing its doors, many are left wondering, "What now?"

Well, it turns out that there are a few alternatives that are actually FAR better than Mint and that is what we are sharing today.

Here's a sneak peek of what we cover in this episode:

    • The Limitations of Mint.com: We discuss how Mint.com, despite its popularity, fell short in helping users effectively budget due to a lack of built-in accountability. This lack of consequences for overspending makes it easier to deviate from your budgeting goals.

    • Our Go-To Financial Tracking Tool: Discover the power of the Empower Personal Dashboard, our primary tool for the past decade. It's a free, comprehensive app that excels in financial tracking, overshadowing what Mint offered.

    • Revolutionizing Budgeting with The Real Money Method: Learn about our unique approach to budgeting, which doesn't rely on traditional apps, envelopes, or spreadsheets. We share how this method promotes unity in finances and simplifies money management, making it quicker and more effective.

The 4 red flags of the Tranzact card (why I am saying NO to the Tranzact card…)

I have been getting emails from a bunch of readers asking what I think about the Tranzact rewards debit card. If you haven’t heard, basically it is a debit card that provides “Z-Bucks” that can be used to buy everyday items.

In theory I love what Tranzact is doing, but in reality I will be really surprised if this is still around in a year…

I have some friends who are using it and who are excited about it, but I always do my own due diligence and go with my intuition and I am not feeling good about it.

These are the red flags and the reasons I am passing on Tranzact (and make sure you listen til the last one, because it is the nail in the coffin for me.)…

🎙️ In this episode, we cover:

    • The importance of growth and change in our journey with Jesus.

    • The iconic quote about how we are the sum of our five closest friends and the books we read. But is that all there is to it?

    • Why merely thinking positive might not be enough. The surprising power of avoiding negativity.

    • Our thoughts on TikTok and a fun theory we heard (no shade to the TikTok lovers out there!).

    • Three actionable ways to become a better version of yourself in the next five years:

      • Decide to make an intentional change.

      • Eliminate the negative inputs that hold you back.

      • Increase positive inputs and surround yourself with those who lift you up.

    • A personal story about the challenge of finding the right friends and how being intentional about it can make a world of difference.

    • The underrated value of books and why I'll forever advocate for them. 📚

    • A mindset shift about the timeframe of change and how our lives can be radically different in five years.

Does God care more about paying off debt than ending child abuse?

Does God care more about paying off debt than ending child abuse?

Hey friends, I recently shared how God helped Linda and me pay off our mortgage in just 9 months, and while hundreds of commenters were thrilled at what God did, some questioned the intentions or priorities behind it. If you've ever wondered why God would answer "superficial" prayers over what might seem like more critical issues, this episode is a must-listen for you.

    🎙 What We're Covering:

    • Why Would God Help with "Selfish Prayers"?

      • Addressing the doubts and concerns raised about why God would help someone pay off debt rather than solve world hunger or stop child abuse.

      • If you've ever wrestled with the morality of praying for personal financial blessings, this is your episode.

      • We're all about authentic and real conversations here, so no beating around the bush. We tackle tough questions head-on.

We're not just talking dollars and cents; we're talking about soul-stirring, life-changing stuff here. The kind that makes you rethink not just your finances but your whole life's purpose.

Trust me; you don't want to miss this episode. It could very well be the paradigm shift you need to understand the intertwined beauty of financial stewardship and divine purpose.

Today's episode is a special one, and I'm excited to share it with you. We're diving into a topic that's been on my mind a lot lately, and I think it's going to resonate with many of you.

    What We're Talking About Today:

    1. A Fascinating Book Passage: I'm reading from "Five Wealth Secrets" by Craig Hill, and it's sparking some deep thoughts about financial principles in the Bible.

    2. Jewish Wealth vs. Christian Wealth: We're exploring an intriguing question: Why do Jewish people seem to prosper more financially? We're diving into the numbers and what they might mean.

    3. Old Testament Wisdom: Are we missing out on blessings by ignoring Old Testament principles? We're talking about tithing, the Sabbath, and more. It's not about being under the law; it's about understanding the blessings attached to God's instructions.

    4. Living Out the Principles: It's one thing to know Bible verses; it's another to live them out. We're challenging ourselves to study and live out the principles, both Old Testament and New.

    Key Takeaways:

    1. Don't Dismiss Old Testament Principles: There may be blessings attached to living the way God has instructed, even in the Old Testament.

    2. Balance Knowledge and Action: Knowing where a Bible passage is located is great, but living out the principle is what truly matters.

    3. Seek Deeper Understanding: There's no limit to how deep we can go with God. Let's hunt down and chase after the blessings of God available to us.

Biblically responsible investing: should Christians invest in morally questionable companies?

Biblically responsible investing: should Christians invest in morally questionable companies?

One of our 10x investing students asked a question that I get asked quite often: Should we invest in companies that we disagree with morally? This is a question that many Christians wrestle with, and we're diving deep into it. We explore two different approaches:

    1. Biblically Responsible Investing: Avoiding companies that don't align with our values.

    2. Infiltration Approach: Buying stock in those companies to influence change.

What else we are talking about:

Prayerful Investing: We emphasize the importance of praying about our investments and recognizing that there's no one-size-fits-all answer. It's about what God has called you to do.

Consumer Responsibility: We also discuss the impact of our spending habits and how being mindful of where we shop can make a difference.
