     This week we enter the Great Gulf with a breakdown of all the trails and sights to see within the Great Gulf Wilderness. We will bring you through the various approaches you can use for day hiking and backpacking within this remote section of the White Mountains. Additionally we will cover a refresher on the strange disappearance of a lost hiker named Stephon Porith Sou from 2019. We have some updates on road openings, river crossings and the mount washington auto road. We will also update the latest drama in Conway over the Leavitt Country Bakery sign controversy. Stomp has some recent hiking updates, I’ll have a couple of history facts and we have recent search and rescue news including a missing hiker on the AT.

All this plus,  some updates on the latest events going on around new england related to hiking and search and rescue, REI’s flagship Portland, OR store is closing, a look back at a well known Mount Everest rescue, some recent hike updates from Stomp and Mrs. Stomp, and a drone is used to locate the remains of a missing person in Hampstead, NH.

    This week we welcome one of the queens of the Ozarks, our friend Andi Lowry. Andi runs the Ozark Trail Section Hikers and Backpackers group which has over 12,000 members. She is an experienced hiker and backpacker who helps organize new backpacking education programs, and holds a wealth of knowledge around how best to start navigating the often confusing world of backpacking.     This week we welcome one of the queens of the Ozarks, our friend Andi Lowry. Andi runs the Ozark Trail Section Hikers and Backpackers group which has over 12,000 members. She is an experienced hiker and backpacker who helps organize new backpacking education programs, and holds a wealth of knowledge around how best to start navigating the often confusing world of backpacking.All this and some recent hiking recaps.

    This week we are joined by Ben Rossi and Jack Daley of the NH Civil Air Patrol. We had previously covered Civil Air Patrol way back in episode 28. This week we wanted to revisit Civil Air Patrol to learn more about Jack’s experience as a new member and Ben’s role as Squadron Commander of the Concord Composite Squadron. In addition to the Civil Air Patrol topic we will do a deep dive on the updated Search and Rescue data for 2022 - this will include some new insights on yearly trends, causes of incidents and some ideas on ways to potentially limit search and rescue events in the future.
