Episode 9: Reaping the premium of trust through effective negotiation with Simon Horton

We’re negotiating all the time, in the workplace and at home, and 9 times out of 10 we will have to continue working or living with that person after the negotiation. So this means the negotiation has to be win-win: if we take a win-lose approach, it will just end up lose-lose.

But if we go for win-win, can we trust the other person won’t take advantage?

Trust is a massively important aspect of all human relationships, at work or at home. There is a great premium for trust but, such is our species, we can’t always trust. So how do we resolve this dilemma?

Find out how in this hugely interesting podcast interview with negotiations expert Simon Horton where he draws on stories about billionaires, peace treaties and hostage negotiations to tell us exactly how to build trust, even with the least trustable of people.

Episode 6: Cyber stress with Tammy Tawadros

Episode 6: Cyber stress with Tammy Tawadros

Although the term cyber stress has come to refer mainly to the headaches and threats of cybersecurity, we use it to describe the many forms of stress that the use of information and computer technology has ushered into our lives. So much of what we do, and increasingly who we are at work and elsewhere, revolves around the tech that connects us to cyber space and the virtual online world. In this podcast, we explore some of the negative aspects of technostress and virtual connection on our well-being, and we consider some ways to reduce the consequences and impacts.

We have all heard a lot about digital detox and zoom fatigue, but how good is our awareness and understanding of how technostress and working online, in cyberspace, affects our psychological functioning and our well-being. Our ability to connect digitally and work anywhere, anytime brings great freedom and flexibility, but are our brains and bodies paying too heavy a price? The resulting stress can take the form of digital distraction, hyper-immersion, addiction or even burnout. What skills and support do we need to help us to have a more balanced relationship with our tech and cyber environment?

Episode 5: Embracing all the brains in the business to thrive, not just survive with Kate Lanz

Episode 5: Embracing all the brains in the business to thrive, not just survive with Kate Lanz

All the Brains in the Business

What is the return on investment on the brains in your business?

A brain in Thrive neurochemically is a brain that can do really high-quality thinking, be innovative and inspire performance. Many organisational cultures and leaders are simply not getting the best of all the brains in their business. There is latent brain power, sitting untapped and going wasted.

Knowing what puts a brain into Thrive and focusing on that is a win win. There are brain gender differences that hugely support this to happen. And brain sex is by no means binary! Find out  more about how you can support all the brains in your business in this exciting podcast about cutting edge research into applied neuroscience in business.

Episode 4: Digging deeper into global workplace resilience with Dr. Kathryn McEwan.

Episode 4: Digging deeper into global workplace resilience with Dr. Kathryn McEwan.

Kathryn McEwen, Global Lead of Working with Resilience and Founder of the R@W Team App joins Karen Griffin and Lindsay Harding to explore defining, building and sustaining resilience in organisations.

    Some takeaways…

    · We align our definition of resilience with the problems workplaces are looking to solve when they seek it out. Generally it’s about pressure, change, uncertainty and future viability - meaning that resilience at work is managing challenge, adapting and proactively planning.

    · While keeping healthy and well is important, the core building blocks are alignment with values and purpose as without this there is no solid base to build on.

    · Move beyond the usual focus on individuals to look at what teams need to do together, in their particular working environment, to manage, adapt and thrive.

    · As a leader you have to invest in your resilience but recognise that as a ‘climate engineer’ how you demonstrate this matters.

    · Invest in resilience in the good times, not just when the wheels fall off and you will embed routines that hold you in good stead

    · Align all of your efforts in investment in people, teams, leaders plus processes and systems to create sustainable culture change. You need a systemic approach for success.

    · Keep it simple. Small shifts in the right direction matter. On teams it’s about having the conversations that matter on an on-going basis.

Episode 3: Resilience in the workplace - it starts with you - with Lindsey Harding

Episode 3: Resilience in the workplace - it starts with you - with Lindsey Harding

Seasoned Executive Coaches and Consultants, Karen Griffin and Lindsey Harding introduce us softly to the idea of resilience for leaders.  In earnest, they share their own resilience journeys and importantly the top tips they’ve gathered through reflection, practice and ongoing learning about resilience in support of their work with Leaders across numerous sectors.  Of note, the key messages from this podcast are:

    • Resilience is deeply personal for each of us, so learning about what undercuts and what supports our own resilience is key.
    • Journaling and looking for patterns through our lives and careers can help with this.
    • Resilience can be learnt - it is a dynamic capability that we can all mindfully grow.
    • Despite common myth, resilience is far more than simply “bounce back”.
    • Resilience is holistic - top tips for improving it embrace support for the mind, body and spirit.
    • Due to the heightened stresses and strains of our world and economies the need for us to be resilient has increased massively in recent years and will continue to do so.  Paying attention to this therefore is a necessity - not a desirable requirement.
    • The Resilience at Work (R@W)  toolkit offers a dynamic frame for improving individual, team and organisational resilience.  Here is a pdf link; https://workingwithresilience.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/R@WToolkitFlierAus.pdf
    • As we look to achieve optimal performance paying attention to our heart coherence is proven to be useful AND healthy for our long term resilience.  Here is the link to the UK business that specialises in this and trains coaches in their tools: https://www.heartmath.co.uk/

Darren talks through some examples of clients he has worked with
to demonstrate how health can be the catalyst for improvements in all areas of health and lifestyle.

We also discuss the huge impact the last 2 years has had on stress and resilience within businesses which has created not only a significant need, but a massive opportunity for organisations to establish a culture of wellbeing in order to harness the power of happy,
