As COVID-19 continues to bring our world to a halt, we keep trying to do a sports podcast in an age of no sports. Results are appropriately chaotic, even if still a lot of fun. A first time as we have a four-person pod with Dave, Shea, Vince & Matt all on board! - We do start with sports chat, as we briefly discuss the glorious week of Australian footy action right before hard quarantine measures truly hit Australian shores. Vince watched more than most Australians. - Chat then moves to the more serious questions of just when will we see these leagues come back, if ever - as well as the financial implications for leagues, particularly the AFL & NRL in Australia looking at some extreme measures to try and keep their leagues afloat. - Then the chaos reigns. There is no way to summarize an episode that began within the hour of learning that Kobe Bryant had tragically passed far too soon. We were planning to record regardless, & we dive into a pod as best we can with this weighing heavy on our hearts. - After a little bit too long of an intro by Dave, Shea & Dave crack into our reaction to the shocking news of Kobe Bryant's passing. After a month and a half off from the on-pod work, Dave & Shea are back at trying to dissect a crazy holiday period in the sports world. The biggest news, the Astros scandal. We talk all facets - why is it different, what will it mean for baseball, what are the ramifications, and how do we feel about it. The other big stories - the NCAA football championship, OBJ slapping asses and giving money - why neither should be worried about, but are. The Ducks end a great season on a high, and Vince meets a famous fan with Port Adelaide ties. There's been so much fucking sports since we last podded that we really hit it all swiftly, but we also chat about the race in the English Premier League and how it has developed (knock on wood) into a very likely good year for Liverpool. Through concussions & summer colds, Dave & Shea battle through another week of huge US sports news. - The NCAA hits Ohio State & Memphis hard, suspending two of the biggest stars in College Football & Basketball for financial breaches - is this legit, or just the NCAA refusing to get with the times? - The Houston Astros downward spiral post World Series loss continues, as explosive claims about them utilising cameras & trash cans (yep, seriously) to tip pitches in the 2017 win against the Dodgers puts a potential asterisk, or worse, against their title. - The biggest surprises, as well as the biggest disappointments, of the NFL season so far.
