    020. Kids Don't Get Cancer with Michael Crossland

Diagnosed before his first birthday and spending over ¼ of his life in hospital, doctors told him school and sport were not options. Infection and fatigue were too great a risk, reaching his teenage years would be a miracle. His only wish was to lead a normal life and be able to do all the things that other kids took for granted every day.

But he had a dream and the undying determination to achieve the impossible… No matter the size of the obstacles that lay ahead. Now, an accomplished businessman, National Ambassador  for Camp Quality, Australian of the Year finalist, Australia Day Ambassador and international hall of fame inductee,  Michael inspires people from all walks of life.

It is no doubt he has a heart for giving and a skill to engage people from all walks of life. Within the last five years he has gone from being one of the youngest State Sales Development Managers for one of the largest companies in the world, to running five banks then leaving his finance career to follow his dreams in making a global impact and he certainly has done that!

    017. The Sky is the Limit with Meridith Alexander

Meridith Alexander and her daughter Schuyler have always shared one mission:  Positively impact the world and passionately help people find their purpose. Schuyler was on her way to graduating from Yale, an avid traveler, and a passion for social enterprise. Meridith had a thriving business of her own.

On February 19th, 2016 the world in which they knew it would never be the same.

While vacationing in Colombia on her way back to Peru, Schuyler was crushed by a boulder that broke loose during their stop at a swimming hole while white-water rafting in Colombia.  Shortly after, Meridith received the call no mother wants to get, essentially “Get here as fast as you can, so you can say good-bye.”

Over the past three years, Schuyler and Meridith have shared their journey through feelings of despair, hope, belief, expectation, and knowing that although they could not change WHAT happened, they can change HOW they viewed what happened in order to help positively impact others and encourage them to passionately find their purpose.

Meridith walks me through how she redefined tragedy in order to see the good in every situation by using GRIT.

    008.   Experience the Healing Power of Adventure with Brad Ludden #outlivingit

What if if I told you a kayaker from Montana decided he would try and alleviate the struggles that come with having cancer as a young adult by putting them in a kayak and sending them down class four white-water?

    Crazy Right?

    Spoiler Alert, it worked!

in 2016, Brad Ludden won the CNN Hero Award for his efforts.

Almost 70,000 young adults are diagnosed with cancer each year.  It is the fastest growing and most under-served demographic of those diagnosed with cancer each year.

At thirteen years old, Brad Ludden decided to make it his mission, from the inspiration of his Aunt who was diagnosed when he was just eleven years old, to combine his love of kayaking and his calling to help young adults impacted by cancer.  That is when the idea of First Descents was born.

In this episode you will discover what a “First Descent” is and what it means to those who have participated in their program.

Find out how the river can heal by its unwillingness to stop for anyone.  Regardless of your health, wealth, gender, or color, the river teaches you humility and creates an environment that fosters introspection and lifelong connections with those who you experience it with.

Brad takes us through his journey as a professional kayaker to the early days of First Descents and how it has grown from his first event with 15 survivors to serving over 1300 young adults in 2018.

We discuss how adventures like these can serve everyone in a world full of technology and distraction as well as lessons Brad has learned in building a business without taking a college class.

This episode truly has something for everyone.  Let me know what your biggest takeaway was!
